Do You Own 3-D Glasses?

Today, I got my first glimpse of the 3-D episode of Chuck, which is airing the Monday after the Super Bowl and will feature a 3-D Jeff. Also during the Super Bowl, the movie Monsters vs. Aliens will be airing a "monstrous 3-D event" during an ad break. I guess I need to hurry up and find some 3-D glasses! Last Fall, when I went to see Jaws 3-D, I had to try to make my own glasses out of cardboard and cellophane (they worked . . . kind of); this time, I want to watch with the proper equipment. I used to steal them from Universal when I was younger I have green ones from Shrek, black ones from Men and Black and a yellow pair from Terminator. The green ones are by far the coolest though!

There was a free pair from Disney in TV Guide last spring for the 3D Hannah Montana concert. Around the same time, there was a 3D bit on The Colbert Report, so I whipped them out and used 'em! Don't know where they are now, though...

no i don't have any 3-D glasses but i love to watch thigns that are like that. there have been years in the past when i was growing up that there was a special 3-D half time show - so i can really respect the value of having my own pair.

I've never been able to get why 3D is something worth doing when the primary function in most pictures that use the technology is to create the illusion of an object propelling toward the viewer. Aside from that, it provides absolutely no thrill that could match up to the feeling of exhilaration you get from watching a well-written scene, rather than a scene written so a sphere or bullet or burning car or piece of debris comes at you. And anyway, we're getting incredibly close to the mainstream accessibility of holographic technology that would make the 3D technology that Dreamworks is investing in from Aliens vs. Monsters onward a nonstarter for audiences. I understand the fun of it all, and the nostalgia of it all--going back to the days many moons ago when I'd get a 3D comic, and then try to make my own 3D comic with blue and red colored pencils to use the glasses on--, but what's the point if the technology trumps the pathos of the greater work? For me, it's nifty once and only sometimes, but after that scenes in 3D have an off-putting effect. At least, this is how I felt after seeing Zemeckis' Beowulf (which, as a movie, wasn't bad) and Journey to the Center of the Earth (which was pretty bad all around).

the only ones i have are the ones that look liek sunglasses from nightmare before xmas 3d and all the disney 3d movies but im sure they dont work so now i gott find that old issue of glamour laying around my house... haha

The Chuck video says something about looking for them at SoBe and Pepsi displays — I haven't seen them there yet but will definitely keep an eye out next time I'm at the supermarket. Also, when I made mine, I used <a href="http://paperproject.org/3dglasses.html">these instructions</a>, and they worked out fine, except I couldn't find blue cellophane and tried coloring clear cellophane with blue marker instead. Not the best idea!
