Could You See Matthew McConaughey as Magnum?

According to EW, Matthew McConaughey has been offered the role of Thomas Magnum in a film version of the 1980s hit show. He's reportedly reading the script now and will make a decision soon.

Made iconic by the mustached Tom Selleck, Magnum is many things: a ladies' man, a former US Navy Seal who served during the Vietnam War, a best friend, a thorn in Higgins' side. Most of all, Magnum is not afraid to tango with the bad guys of Hawaii and drives a Ferrari.

What do you think about this casting possibility? Could McConaughey embody the Magnum?

I know this is an old post but I just started re-watching all the magnums on Netflix. I've never really liked MM to be honest. He's always come off as an arrogant doosh. I can't imagine the producers of any Magnum movie would want him to be the self effacing character we all love. Definitely not right for the role. No way Mcconnawhater.

Selleck will always be Magnum to me, but he's also now Jesse Stone & has a new cop series starting. MM can do young(ish) Magnum - he's cocky, physical, a little bad-ass, but has to develop a better grin. TS has super charm with a touch of humility. MM always has a little smirk. Let's see if he can act less-than-super-smug.

I grew up watching Magnum P.I. I had a terrible crush on Tom Selleck and all these years later I still have a crush on him. If he is in it I'm sure to watch it. I'd really like to see what Magnum and T.C. and Rick are up to these days. Magnum's daughter would no doubt be grown by now. I'm sure that would be very interesting. My vote is for Tom Selleck to Play Thomas Sullivan Magnum, if they are going to make a movie. My hopes are that they don't ruin it like they did the "Starsky and Hutch" show.

I think he would definitly bring a uniqueness to the role! He's in top notch physical shape and I just think he would be great portraying that character.

Hell NO! Magnum PI has and always will be Tom Selleck!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why does Hollywood feel the need to make a theatrical version of a great TV show? Leave it alone. You already ruined The Dukes of Hazzard. If McConaughey needs a role, let him create something new.

certain things about mcconaughey absolutely--the charm, hotness, etc. but he often plays such dopey mindless characters...not that magnum was exactly a rocket scientist. could be fun!

I can see it because he has the charisma and attitude to back to sustain the roll. I loved that show, my mom loved that show and her mom loved that show. You need a man who women from multiple generations all agree is swoon worthy and MM is perfect. Was that the epitomy of laziness that I did not spell out his name? I vote yes for MM.

I can keep an open mind and MMisn't a bad choise vut I think I would like to see some other options of actors to play the role. Maybe the script has changed the Magnum character a bit to be more Mathew McConaughey-esque

NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Magnum is Tom Selleck and Tom Selleck is Magnum! No one could work a pair of short tennis shorts like Tom Selleck! I don't care how old Tom Selleck is, he can put his shoes under my bed any time! ;) Stay away from this role! Now I need to go take a cold shower.
