Rumor has it Scarlett Johansson is topping a list of actresses to potentially play Marilyn Monroe in the film My Week With Marilyn, directed by Simon Curtis. The movie will be "based on the diary of Colin Clark, an employee of Laurence Olivier, who looked after the blonde bombshell when she came to London to film Olivier's The Prince and the Showgirl in 1957." Here's more:
In the diary, Clark talks about showing Marilyn around Queen Elizabeth's private apartments at Windsor Castle and other "behind-the-scenes" trips. Clark published excerpts of his diary in 1958, but left the details of one week out. These chapters weren't released until he died in 2002, and will form the basis of the movie.
Other actresses reportedly considered for the role include Kate Hudson, Amy Adams, and Michelle Williams. Between those three and Johansson, I'd say Johansson comes closest in the looks department, but none of these ladies seems quite right for portraying the sexy icon. Who, if anyone, could you see playing Marilyn Monroe on the big screen?

Ikea
Christina Hendricks from "Mad Men."
1yes, a good actress could play that role. I think performance is more important than phisical appearance.
2Scarlett Johansson does come closest in looks, but I'm not 100% sold on her acting ability. January Jones could maybe pull it off as well.
3kate hudson, really?! maybe scarlett johansson could pull it off.
4to be honest, i can't think of anyone that would really do the role justice. i'm surprised (or not really) that LL isn't on the list since we know how much she LOVES MM
5Marilyn is such an icon and in real life was such a complex person, I can't think of anyone doing her justice
6rachel mcadams has both the skill, charm, and looks to pull it off. Scarlett Johansson would be an insult to marilyn. as would kate hudson.
7actually, i could see michelle williams.
8I think Reese Witherspoon could wrap herself around that- she does well with the attitude change movies..
I'd love to see Charlize in it also-
9I think Rachel McAdams or maybe Angelina Jolie could definitely pull it off. Johansson is an insult, acting wise.
10christina hendricks is an excellent suggestion, totally agree
11I think Michelle Williams has the chops, but she would have to gain some weight for the role (since she is so thin) and I never think that's good for someone's health.
12No please, Scarlett Johansson is a terrible actress!!! I'd say January Jones, or Michelle Williams.
13I thought the same as Ava Gascger: Christina Hendricks. But Michelle Williams could TOTALLY do it. She'd just have to put on some curves. I really hope not Scarlett...blah
14that's what I meant. Michelle Williams would play the role perfectly, but maybe she's not chosen becase she has not those curves...
15Lindsay Lohan is dying to get the job...
16I hope Michelle Williams doesn't play it. She's way too good an actress.
17Lindsay Lohan will be pissed. . .
18I wouldn't even have thought of Rachel McAdams, but now that some mentions it, I think she could be great in the role!
19Actually, Michelle Williams would be ideal...she is a really good actress and has that element of deep complexity to her. Scarlette Johanson has the look but I'm not sure if she can full off Marilyn's character. Michelle would have to gain weight. She is the best for the part by a long shoot.
20Rachel McAdams didn't cross my mind but she would definitely be great I think.
21Scarlett Johanssen's voice is husky and smokey, and a far cry from Marilyn's bo-peep voice. Scarlet also doesn't have the child-like innocence that Marilyn has. Just because it's blonde, fair, with big boobs, doesn't mean she can play Marilyn.
Amy Adams, though her voice sounds Marilyn-ish and she can play a neurotic really well, lacks that smokey sex appeal that Marilyn has. No matter what they do to her physically, she doesn't ooze that natural sexiness. She's cute, and that's it.
Back in the 90's, I always thought Charlize Theron looked like a modern day Marilyn, but nowadays, I'm not sure if she would be the perfect choice. I honestly don't think anyone can pull of a realistic "Marilyn". It's either they have the looks, or the acting chops. Neither have both. Which is why we have NO modern day Marilyn Monroe.
22As long as it's not LL...
23Rachel McAdams. I think she has the emotional capability. I think that Marilyn had a very intense life and she obviously didn't handle it well, only an actress with depth could portray her.
24I instantly thought of Amy Adams!
25In my opinion, Drew Barrymore. But she needs to stop talking out of the side of her mouth. If she can accomplish this, I think she can pull it off. Drew has the complexity, vulnerability, and curvy body. Also, I think Drew has charming charisma, like Marilyn. JMHO.
26There were some good points made on whether the actresses could handle that material, so I have to ask. Is this truly about a one week encounter or will someone turn it into a biopic?
27Cate Blanchett should do it. She's like a freaking shapeshifter.
28I'm on the Christina Hendricks bandwagon. Remember when (on 'Mad Men') they're talking about all the women in the office being either a Jackie or a Marilyn? And the line on Joan was "Well, Marilyn is really a Joan". Love it. Love her. She's got the amazing curves and Marilyn wasn't a real blond either.
29Mira Soverino...she's a good actress and kinda look like Marilyn Monroe... can't imagine how pissed LiLo would get...
30I'd got with Johansson. DEFINATELY NOT Lindsey!
31oooh this is tough....some one up there said many of the actresses have the either the look or the talent, but not both and i completely agree!!
i can't imagine Amy Adams in the role b/c she isn't sexy enough and Scarlett w/ a high, squeaky voice?? don't think so.
Christina Hendricks is my top choice (but i don't want her to dye her hair, i love the red!!) and then probably Rachel McAdams. Drew would be #3, but she'd need a voice coach.
32mira sorvino already played MM and she sucked.
33kate hudson? are you on drugs?
34Mira Sorvino has actually played Marilyn before. I think it was in a tv movie? She was actually really great. However, i do agree with the choice of Christina Hendricks or Michelle Williams.
35OMG! I was just saying how much I though Scarlett Johansson would make a perfect Marilyn Monroe and that I really wanted her to play her!!
36Yes I definitely think Scarlett could pull it off. She has just the right look. I would love to see her portray Marilyn. And I'm not even a huge Scarlett fan!
Anyone but Scarlett! I think she just has big boobs and blonde, but doesn't I don't think she could pull it off at all. If she tried to do the voice it would end up comical. the other girls could be good though. Just keep Scarlett out of it. I like her but would hate her at Monroe.
37Lindsay Lohan reportedly is going to play her in the remake of Some Like it Hot. Why would they remake something that was already so successful and done right the first time? ESPECIALLY with LL??
38No, Lindsay said she *wanted* to play Marilyn in a remake of Some Like It Hot. There's no script, and the directors she has talked to have all turned her idea down. I wouldn't bet on that happening (thank God!)
I honestly don't think anyone could ever to Marilyn justice. People could come close, but it would definitely be missing something as she was such a unique woman.
39Hey why don't we just get Megan Fox to do it!
40hahaha
I think for anyone to pull off Marilyn it would have to be an unknown actress.
I'm late on this but, I think the suggestion of Drew Barrymore is very good actually. She proved in Grey Gardens that she can tackle a complex character, she DID shed the typical Drew mannerisms of talking out of the side of her mouth AND she got Little Edie's voice perfect. And she can sing. So I think she could do Marilyn as well if she really put herself into it, as I'm sure she would. I think Rachel McAdams would be great too.
41katherine heigl
42Honestly, I've thought this for a while...really look at Leighton Meester's face. Her features are actually quite similar. She looks more like her than Scarlett. Scarlett does not look like her, she just has the 50's actress look.
43Give Poppy Montgomery a second chance -- she played Marilyn very well in the adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates' Blonde, and that required a lot of depth at playing the public and private Marilyns.
Amy Adams would also be a good choice, as is Christina Hendricks.
44I think KATHERINE HEIGL (from Greys Anatomy) would make an excellent Marilyn Monroe. She not only looks like her and is built like her, but she also has the whole personality thing going for her... Yes, definitely KATHERINE HEIGL!!!
45it's hard to find someone to play marilyn - i really can't think of any actresses out there who would do her justice.
46i always think that michelle williams could play marilyn manroe i think shes a good choice.
47January Jones, Gretchen Moll, Marion Cotillard.
48NO Scarlett.
rachel mcadams was the first woman i thought of. i think christina hendricks would also be wonderful.
49Christina Hendricks is the only one that has both the body and the abillity as an actress.
