Which NBC Comedy Has the Best Halloween Episode This Year?

The Halloween spirit was in full force this week with the NBC Thursday night lineup.

The Halloween spirit was in full force this week with the NBC Thursday night lineup. In past seasons, Halloween isn't always celebrated on each of these shows, but last night we lucked out with Halloween-inspired episodes of Community, Parks and Recreation, and The Office.

On Community, Britta realizes that someone in the group has psychopathic tendencies, and she's determined to find out who the creeper is. The majority of the episode is made up of goofy vignettes that poke fun at the horror fiction genre. Things were different on Parks and Recreation. Although Halloween provides the backdrop for April and Andy's epic costume party, the focus of the episode is more on fun and friendship rather than Halloween mischief or mayhem. And finally on The Office, after Andy prescreens everyone's costumes, we learn that Erin is responsible for the success of an "adult" Halloween party. Despite the fact that classic office hijinks develop, there are still a few pretty unsettling scenes.

Each of these shows took a pretty different approach, but, for me, it felt like Community embraced the spooky spirit of the season the most wholeheartedly. If you tuned in, speak up: which of NBC's Thursday night comedies did you think was the best?

The crew of Community may have started off as an informal Spanish study group, but this season Jeff has "officially" accepted that they've evolved into a group of close friends. While the group recently argued about the hierarchy of their social circle, each of these very different characters brings their own awesome quirks to the table. Which NBC Comedy Are You Most Excited to Watch Tonight?

Amid all the excitement of Fall TV, tonight feels extra special because NBC's Thursday comedy block is back!

Amid all the excitement of Fall TV, tonight feels extra special because NBC's Thursday comedy block is back! Community has guest star John Goodman, Parks and Recreation will revisit the cliffhanger of what happens to Leslie and Ben in the face of her campaign run, and we'll get to see what life is like in The Office with a brand-new boss. After those, newbie comedy Whitney will have its series premiere. I think I might be most excited to see Parks and Rec, but I've missed the denizens of Greendale Community College and Dunder Mifflin as well. I also want to see if Whitney feels like it fits in with its more established lead-ins, so all in all, it's going to be a great night for watching TV. But tell us now: which of tonight's NBC comedies are you looking forward to the most?

Community's Joel McHale Says Jeff's Relationship With Annie "Will Develop Further on the Romantic End of Things"

Community returns for its third season tonight on NBC, bringing along a few new characters — like John Goodman, who plays the vice dean.

Community returns for its third season tonight on NBC, bringing along a few new characters — like John Goodman, who plays the vice dean. He joined Community star Joel McHale for an interview with a few reporters, where Goodman talked about his guest role and why he wanted to be part of the show. But what was even more exciting was McHale's juicy scoop about Jeff's relationship with Annie (it's so on) and what else is coming up for the study group.

How will Jeff's relationship with Annie develop?
Joel McHale: Well, I can tell you that that relationship will develop further on the romantic end of things, much to the chagrin of half the audience — at least who comments on message boards, and it’s divided right down the middle. They’ll be like, “Oh, so sweet,” [and the others are] like, “It’s disgusting.”

What other changes are coming for Jeff?
JM: I know that my father will become present in the series. Jeff has a lot of father issues, and so that will be dealt with. And according to Dan, my character’s [going] to kind of be put through hell, so I’m really looking forward to taking the journey.

Do you have a personal opinion on who Jeff should be with, Annie or Britta?
JM: No, wow. Wow, in my personal opinion, geez. That’s a good question. I had not thought about that. You know, when it comes to that I trust Dan implicitly and, with Jeff, he’s a very uncommitted and guarded man. He’s got a lot of issues going on, and you know he’s going to be more gravitated to Annie this year. But, if it’s my personal choice then I guess it would have to be — boy, I don’t know, that’s a good [question] — probably anybody from the WNBA.

Tell us about the musical number that we’ve seen in the preview.
JM: It is an over the top, very large musical number with crane shots and streamers and explosions, and the entire school is involved. I don’t want to say the reason for it, but let’s just say that I did pull a couple hamstrings and I was hoarse afterwards, but believe it’s going to — it’s the first thing you’ll see in the premiere episode, and if that doesn’t grab your attention then we’re in big trouble.

Of the new guest stars (John, Michael K. Williams, and Martin Starr) who is shaking things up the most?
JM: Oh, boy. Well, John is terribly disruptive. He parked his car on the stage and said, “This is my parking space."

5 Things We Already Know About Community Season Three

Get ready for a new semester at Greendale!

Get ready for a new semester at Greendale! Community returns for a third season on Sept. 22, and we never know what kind of wackiness to expect from Jeff, Britta, and the gang. Luckily, a few details about the season have already been put out there, so I've gathered these details (and some new photos!) into one place so you can do your homework on season three of Community before it comes back.

  1. Greendale has some new faces. John Goodman, The Wire's Michael K. Williams, and Martin Starr are all appearing as faculty members in season three. Goodman will be a regular as the scary assistant dean, Williams will be an ex-con professor teaching biology, and Starr will head up a political science class.
  2. Chang is going to be in a position of authority. As Ken Jeong told us in an interview, Chang will be coming back to Greendale in "a position of authority." He wouldn't expand, but word on the street is that he'll be the college's newest security guard. Let's get ready to count the ways Chang's going to abuse that power.
  3. Pierce isn't going anywhere. At Community's Comic-Con panel, series creator Dan Harmon said that Pierce is still going to be in the group, even though he stormed off in the finale. Harmon insisted that they'll address the fact that Pierce became so unlikable, and that they'll explain why the group will want to keep him: "by the time we're done [with the season], you'll know why you would hang out with Pierce."
  4. Troy and Jeff are going to butt heads. When we talked to Donald Glover about Troy's role this year, he mentioned that there's going to be a storyline about Troy growing up and having conflict with Jeff, because now they're both the alpha males. As Glover admitted, there can't be two alphas, so I'm looking forward to seeing who comes out on top — and what they'll do to prove who's the group leader.
  5. Troy and Abed's bromance is going to get intense. During the Comic-Con panel, Glover and Danny Pudi said that Troy and Abed would be moving in together and noted that the transition is going to take their friendship "to the next level." For characters this close, I'm just glad it won't tear them apart.

Ken Jeong Talks About Being Community's "Pathetic Outsider" and Making His Dreams Come True

Community's Ken Jeong has had a heck of a Summer after starring in two of the highest-grossing movies of the season, The Hangover Part II and Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

Community's Ken Jeong has had a heck of a Summer after starring in two of the highest-grossing movies of the season, The Hangover Part II and Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Now he's about to return to the small screen for a third season of Community as the polarizing Chang, and we had a chance to chat with him at the Summer TCA. He hinted about Chang's different direction and gushed over how much he loves doing the show, how grateful and happy he is, and how people like Todd Phillips and Bradley Cooper have touched his life.

BuzzSugar: You just had two hit movies this Summer — is Community enough for you now?
Ken Jeong:
This is the happiest I've been in my career. We just started shooting last Monday, and it was just picking up from where we left off. We're so happy we're coming back for another year. We genuinely love each other. We genuinely love each other's company and I've missed working with the people every day. For me, it's an embarrassment of riches. For me, as a 42-year-old Asian doctor, this is the peak of my career. It won't get any better than this. This is everything I wanted to do and then some. I never ever imagined I would be working this much and being this known. It's because of the fans and because of the people I work with. I'm just so blessed in terms of industry and in terms of the fans.

Buzz: Last year you gave the most impassioned speech at the MTV Movie Awards about that being a high point in your career, especially in light of your wife beating cancer. Are you still feeling that way?
KJ:
She's still a doctor, and I used to be a doctor, and all our close friends are doctors. We're like, is this really happening? You can't believe it. We personally live the same lives that we lived years ago when we were physicians. As I say it out loud, it's still surreal. I was happy being the doctor from Knocked Up, alright? That was like, amazing. If that were to be the last thing I'd do, it would be a life well spent in the arts. So to be Mr. Chow and [star in] two Hangovers, a third season of Community and to be in Transformers? Come on, it's ridiculous. It's an embarrassment of riches. And what I like about it is that I really love acting and I feel like I'm getting better at it. That's the important thing; I love what I'm doing, and I'm getting better at the craft. Like I'm improving and naturally pushing myself to do this in a great way. [This is] the best way to sum it up in the last two years: [director] Todd Phillips on Hangover, after I did a scene with Paul Giamatti, said, "I don't know what's happened the past couple years, but you're like a much better actor than you were the first movie." And he goes, "How is that?" I go, "It's because of two seasons of Community." It's just made me a better actor.
