According to the AP, Jared Leto gained 60 pounds to portray John Lennon's assassin in the upcoming Chapter 27, which I've been patiently awaiting ever since Sundance 2007. Physical transformations like Leto's are often the sign of a serious, committed actor. However, Leto's off-screen press has left a sour taste in my mouth (he even slipped off Pop's manjoyment radar). Then again, if I close my ears to the gossip and just look at his filmography it's hard to deny that this is a risk-taking, talented actor.
Can you take Jared seriously as an actor these days?

i haven't really seen him much, but his off-screen persona is so distasteful, that i'm really reluctant to watch his films. and the idea of him and lindsay lohan in chapter 27? sounds really bad to me.

4If you have any doubts about Leto's dramatic acting ability, you have to see him Requiem for a Dream...he, along with the entire cast, is AWESOME!!!

6Absolutely. I think he's a fabulous actor and I was a fan of his long before he ever became a musician and before he was ever plastered on every tabloid site for his bizarre behaviour. The fact is, what he does in his off-time is one thing, but what he does on-screen is amazing.
7I wouldn't say he's a GREAT actor but he's a very capable actor, and he chooses interesting roles. Fight Club, Requiem for a Dream, American Psycho... he was good in all of those, and they are all great movies.

9I think he's a good actor, but like most, has a very specific persona he lends to his characters. He's not versatile, but as long as he keeps accepting roles that he is good at, he's a good actor.
10i have to agree with others who said that he was great in requiem for a dream, and it was a fantastic movie as well.
11leto is an okay actor, but having seen Chapter 27 I can say that I was truly disappointed with his performance. Just the physical transformation does not equal good acting, y'know? it was a terrible flick.
12It's not that I can't take him seriously as an actor; he's just not that good of an actor. Requiem is one of the most overrated movies ever, in my opinion. Besides, Requiem was almost 10 years ago, he needs to prove himself now.

16yes - i think that i can take him seriously. he's definitely a bit 'off' when he's not on screen but you have to admit that some of the best actorsa re like that too. take johnny depp or daniel day lewis - they aren't the most normal, but they really get into character and it's amazing.
