Barrymore starred in the last film she directed, Whip It, but she cast herself in a supporting role. This time, I hope she takes the lead role of Julie for herself. A single writer in her late 30s, Julie sets off to different international locales to find out how women in other cultures deal with being single. As the protagonist, Julie is funny, a little insecure, and fiercely loyal — all characteristics Barrymore could easily play.
