Buzz Gift Guide: Dear Old Dad

Yes, you read that right: the holiday season is already upon us! It's time to pack up our scary Halloween decorations and start brainstorming ideas for the perfect presents. I know how daunting holiday shopping can be, which is why I'm here to help you every step of the way for all the entertainment lovers in your life. Kicking things off: gifts for your proud papas.

Finding something great for my dad has always been a bit of a struggle, since he's already got a lifetime's worth of gadgets and gizmos, but that's where this guide comes in handy — he always needs new CDs for the stereo and some DVDs to help show off that plasma screen, right?

My parents love reminiscing about the '60s on Mad Men, and what dad wouldn't look dashing in Brooks Brothers' limited edition suit? It doesn't come cheap, but then again, neither does looking as suave as Don Draper.

Many dads, including my own, tend to love Ken Burns, so how about his latest doc, National Parks. Looking for something a bit lighter? As a die-hard Mel Brooks fan, I'm thinking of giving a Blu-ray box set of the classics including Space Balls and Young Frankenstein.

I just bought my Dad a pair of "driving shoes" which look like lightweight moccasins. He is retired and travels in the RV with my Mom all over USA. These looked rugged enough to go outside in, lightweight enough to pass for house shoes, but look more like real shoes instead of slippers.
I found a couple of gift ideas for dad at newpcgadgets. I ended up buying a product called Laptop Smart Feet. It is a clever riser for Macbooks or other laptops.

Sporty? Well, what about a pedometer or iPod? Or even a gift certificate to his favorite sporting goods store, that might be a good gift idea.

For those of you who want to get your dad a Mad Men esque suit, check Banana Republic. In August they had a marketing arrangement with the show. There huge pictures of Don and Joan all over the store and they had little setups like "Don and Roger would wear these suits," "Joan and Peggy would go for a shift dress." They don't have the deal anymore, but they're still selling the suits. Just look for a simple, grey, two button suit. What do you ladies recommend for a sporty, typical man sort of dad? I have a feeling he wouldn't really go for anything up there, and I'm sick of getting him DVDs and tee shirts haha. (I really do like the Beatles set featured, though. I wish he was into that so I had an excuse to buy it!)
