The new James Bond film, Quantum of Solace, leaped to box office success in its opening weekend, coming in at No. 1 with an estimated $70.4 million. This was a record breaker, in fact: According to Variety, it was "the biggest opening ever for a James Bond title and a major victory for a film franchise nearly half a century old."
Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa came in at No. 2, followed by Role Models, High School Musical 3: Senior Year, and Changeling rounding out the top five.
Another movie earning a bunch of buzz, Slumdog Millionaire, also did well over the weekend in a limited opening. I'm excited to see that one myself. Did you head out to see Bond? What did you think?

I did see Bond yesterday, the theater was pretty full, and I thought it was great! I loved it almost as much as Casino Royale. I've never been a Bond fan until Craig took over. The writing, the directing, and cinematography of this new era of Bond are, IMO, far beyond the Pierce Brosnan Bond's. I never liked those movies, and seeing them on tv now they seem like a bit of a joke after Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. I would like to see the original Sean Connery Bond films though. I never wanted to before now b/c I thought they would all be like Pierce Brosnan's, but perhaps I am wrong?
1I saw it Friday night, and it was worth the 50 minutes I waited to get in! The storyline was very intriguing, the special effects were great, and the action scenes were just brimming with testosterone & Daniel Craig hotness.
2Saw the movie on Sunday and my BF and I loved it! I also had a little happy dance moment because the first part of the movie takes part in Siena, Italy and I was just there a year ago. It was fun being able to say- "Hey! I've been there!" My BF did not like the last movie at all, but actually loved this one. I'll certainly get it on DVD when it comes out.
3Saw it. Loved it. But have to admit the story line was sadly lacking. There was a ton of fabulous action and it was all really believable, but it seemed like the writer's kind of went "oh, hey, maybe we should be a plot in here somehwere with all this butt kicking."
Even with that, I really, really enjoyed the film.
