Scrubs has always been creative with its music, and on Wednesday's maybe season finale, maybe series finale, the show knocked it out of the park once more. As JD prepares to leave Sacred Heart one last time, he envisions a possible future for himself, filmed in old-school home movie style. Playing behind the montage is Peter Gabriel's take on "The Book of Love," originally recorded for the Shall We Dance soundtrack.
That song's always guaranteed to get me a little weepy, but I actually prefer the original version, from the Magnetic Fields album 69 Love Songs. You can check out both versions for yourself — and watch that final Scrubs blooper reel — if you read more.

I'd never heard that song before. I love it.
1i'm not gonna lie - i cried during these scenes last night
2Actually, and I hope I don't offend anyone, but my BF and I cracked up laughing at this song when we saw Shall We Dance. We both looked at each other like "OMG, what is this? It's so bad!!!"
3I have a ginormous crush on Mr Braff.
Maybe it's his musical taste. Or Garden State. Or. Or...
Me likey.
4Magnetic Fields' is soooooooooooo much better. Word.
5Book of Love has been one of my fav songs since 69 Love Songs came out and it was perfect last night, even the sappier version. FINE, I'll tell you. I cried. Jeez.
6I cried too. It was so sad.
7I loved the use of Peter Gabriel's version and I am very upset that iTunes will not let me download just that song
. I do not need the soundtrack to a horrible JLo movie.
8the song fit the story montage perfectly
9I prefer the cover version
Awww - that was beautiful!
10Mike Doughty also does an amazing cover of this on his 'Golden Delicious' album. It's the last song and it's a hidden track. I definitely recommend it if you love the song!
11I can't believe this song has been covered twice at least judging by the comments. You can't beat the original with Stephin Merritt. Guy's a genius.
I don't know why, but I didn't get weepy on this one. I usually do. Maybe next time I see it.
Word is scrubs might be back with the regulars just making occasional appearances. Won't be the same though.
12I agree: it's too bad itunes forces you to buy the whole soundtrack. in the end, i followed your advice and bought the other version. very touching too. it was such a wonderful episode! it should almost end on that note...
13Aww JD speaks Spanish for Carla
I'm really gonna miss him
14I think this episode wrapped up the series beautifully and that rarely happens with finale shows. I hope this is the end of the series because it was so well done.
15The Magnetic Fields version is one of the most played songs on my iPod. PG's version isn't bad, but nowhere near as lovely as MF's version.
16I prefer the Peter Gabriel version
17I like this song
18I love this song. It was the perfect way to wrap up this series. I hope ABC lets the series end here.
19With 168 episodes archived, it was time for Scrubs to depart. With Zach and a few other key figures destined to leave, it's best for this landmark sitcom (better than Lucy, MASH, Newhart, MTM, All in the Family) to end on the highest note possible. The finale was not perfect, but it was memorable. It's too bad it could only garner an audience of 5 million. I was expecting more.
20I love it!! I cried soo hard!! I love the song, and I LOVE the show!! I have watched it from episode one! It was the perfect ending!
21This song made me cry. It was perfect and its beautiful.
22I am very interested in this
23i cried its so sad... i wish it wuznt over
24It's been a while since a sitcom had as much heart as this show. I'm glad this show was given the gift of ending on it's terms. Any good story teller and any good story always ends at the beginning. Reminding us why love to remember the memories of those who grew with us, those we love, and those that remember us. Thank you for reminding me. Allowing me to remember those precious memories, the fantasies of my humanity.
25This was such a good episode, cant believe JD has left, scrubs wont be the same without him! the song topped it all off....such a sad episode.
26Guys and Girls, time to start a big debate I have just listened to both versions, and call me a softy but there is no competition, Peter Gabriel wins by a county mile. The problem is there is no where I can download it. Any suggestions would be gratefully received
