It was a spirited and star-studded Tony Awards ceremony on Sunday night and Broadway would have it no other way. Elton John, Liza Minnelli, Dolly Parton and more (including, of course, this year's host, Neil Patrick Harris), all came out for the theatrical awards show. By far the majority of the honors went to Billy Elliot, the Musical, while the comedic play God of Carnage and the musical Next to Normal also did quite well. Angela Lansbury was lauded for her performance in Blithe Spirit while Marcia Gay Harden took home a Tony for her God of Carnage role. There was also some love for Equus and some recognition for Shrek the Musical. To see a full list of 2009 Tony winners, read more.

No James Gandolfini?
1There wasn't enough NPH. I was hoping he would do a song...but that didn't happen. Instead they had performances from old shows such as Mama Mia, Jersey Boys, and something else I can't remember. The highlight was definitely the 3 Billy Elliot's win & acceptance speech.
2I think the show went really well! I love the Tonys.
3Liza busted out the jazz hands for this shot.
4In my 10 years of watching the show, that was definitely the best Tony ceremony ever. And Liza is just a riot.
5JCP, NPH did sing -- at the very end of the show over the credits. I had hoped for more, too.
6Oh no!!! I fell asleep towards the end and let the dvr take over. This morning when I watched best musical was cut off too.
7Billy Eliot is quite well done and Marcia Gay Harden is great in God of Carnage; two well deserved wins, indeed. Can't wait to see Hair in August!
8I loved that the 3 billies won. They seemed so awe struck they didn't know what to say.
9Is it just me, or did all the musical numbers sounds like crap?
Either the sound was WAY off, or the principals need singing lessons
10I just watched NPH's song, so great! I seriously cannot get enough NPH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
