IT Is Back, This Time on the Big Screen

Coulrophobics (those with a clown phobia), beware: That freaky clown from Stephen King's IT is back — and this time on the big screen instead of in an ABC mini-series. Warner Bros. plans to adapt King's novel for film and has hired Dave Kajganich to make his directorial debut with the scary movie.

The story "centers on seven children in a small Maine town who confront the source of a series of murders in 1958 and again in 1985, when the cycle begins again."

Yikes — I'm not sure I can go through this again! Did you see the IT miniseries back in the day? Do you have that bright orange hair and terrifying clowny face of Pennywise seared into your brain, too?

The original, albeit a mini-series was/is such a cult favorite that I can't imagine the remake. I'm somewhat excited yet somewhat disappointed. We shall see, I'll check it out.

Uh oh, directorial debut? That doesn't sound very promising. This book is very long and there's a lot of flashbacks. You have got to have SO much talent, to be able to adapt this into a movie. But I'm going to see it anyways, I'm a manic Stephen King-fan!

The miniseries was so scary. I was in elementary school when I first saw it and it traumatized me. I recently watched it and it was a scary but its still creepy.

The book was quite raunchy, so today's cinema will work GREAT with it... lots of (seemingly) barely-legal nudity probably... how inappropriate. I heard that they were thinking of changing it to be more like the book BUT to have it in Beverly's perspective... rumor has it, anyway. (They'd probably cast freakin' Miley Cyrus or some other Disney tart and completely ruin it.)

@karlotta: You are completely right! The miniseries was a terrible interpretation of the book. The cast was completely wrong, the effects were ridiculous... If they do this remake, I hope they stay true to the heart of the book, and don't turn the kids into sexed-up teenagers! Even then, though, it will probably be more watchable than John Boy, Venus Fly Trap, Jack Tripper, etc. Bah!

The "source" isnt Pennywise, "it" takes on many forms, including a giant spider.

I only saw maybe a couple of minutes of it as a kid before I changed the channel at the site of the clown. I only saw more of it during recent Halloween seasons and realized Pennywise was Tim Curry.

I remember when I first saw that miniseries as a child, it was quite scary. However, I think with today's cinema, it could and should get a lot horrify and I can't wait!! BTW, my fav scene out of the miniseries is when the kids where looking at an old picture in a photo album and Pennywise starts approaching in the picture. Memories.

Aaah great! Because that first made-for-TV movie was HORRIBLE. How to ruin an amazing book in 2 hours, it should have been called!
