Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess in Talks for Lone Scherfig's Romance, One Day
Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess Meet For One Day
Finally, a great sounding (read: not cliched rom-com) romance. Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess are reportedly in negotiations for One Day, an adaptation of a David Nicholls novel. The story follows two students at Edinburgh University as they have a one-night stand in 1988 — and continue to meet on the same day over the next 20 years.

In the book, Emma (Hathaway) is smitten with Dexter (Sturgess), who prefers to bed-hop, but as time drags on, her life improves as his unravels. The film will follow their separate courses (and relationships) until ultimately the two realize they're supposed to be together.
Sometimes these elapsing time plots can be disastrous — bad aging makeup, kitschy retro costumes and hairdos — but One Day is in the adept directorial hands of Lone Scherfig, who made An Education's '60-set look feel authentic and gorgeous. I have high hopes for this one!
Have you read the Nicholls novel? What do you think about Hathaway and Sturgess together?
