"America's Next Top Model" Meets "CSI"

Last night's episode of "America's Next Top Model" focused on that magical combination of "vogueing" and death, which is appropriate, seeing as how this show is starting to bore me stiff.

In the first part of the show, the models learned to pose vogue-style with a club-scene vet named Benny Ninja, who made them creep and crawl around a wondrous maze of laser beams likely to frighten the bodysuit off of anyone not on drugs.

Then, in a connection I couldn't quite figure out, the models posed for a crime-scene-themed photo shoot, where each shot depicted a different type of grizzly death. I, for one, thought this was the best photo shoots of the season so far — very edgy and high-fashion — though I'm sure it's likely to offend a lot of people. I'm sure there will be lots of discussion about this photo shoot in the ANTM group, but let's also talk this week's elimination. I really expected Dionne to go instead of Felicia, though Felicia does win the prize for best parting words. The basic message was: If those bitches don't cry when I get eliminated, I'm gonna throw down. "But they did, so it's cool."

After this show and last week's episode, I just can't help but like Jael. Isn't she just wonderfully weird? I mean, she has such a bizarre way of interacting with other humans, I just find her irresistible to watch. Brittany's weave, meanwhile, is looking really rough, and Rene is growing on me. Anyway, on to the photos...

Buzz I connected the laser thing to the movie Entrapment with Catherine Zeta Jones and Sean Connery

Renee surprisingly did not annoy me this week which is like a MIRACLE Why is Jael curling her hair? She doesnt have any! That was a seriously nasty burn I still want Diana to tone up. It would make such a difference in her shoots specially when angling the belly area

I loved this! I think that this was a great idea. The pics were fierce.

This challenge is seriously straight out of Entrapment. Ive been trying to find a video of it but with no luck. In the movie Catherine's character has to practice for a laser maze like this so she does all these crazy moves and poses to get through it. But she was also blind folded when she did it (that would have made the challenge a little more interesting)

I really like Renee & Whitney..i was really suprised at who went home though! "Its perfectly normal to have girl crushes" Gotta love Old School Brit!
So, last week Jael's friend died. And now the photoshoot is crimes scenes. Maybe a freaky coincidence. But then, in cycle 4, Kahlen's friend died too, and they had to shoot at a cemetry, in a grave 6 feet under. So I feel very suspiscious about how they manipulate the girls. But... on what purpose? Rating? Seeing how they handle ard things? I don't know. I don't understand how it is that Tyra was so aware of what was going on on the salon at the makovers, so she had to call and stop Jael's weave and get her a new 'do, but at panel last week she had no idea about her friend. So, there are other coincidences, that make me wonder. Let's see... Keenya (cycle 4, too) being called fat several weeks and be assigned to pose as 1)gluttony (deadly sin) 2)an elephant Sounds like exploitation to me... anyway, it's reality television. But what pisses me off is that Tyra gets all "mother-like" with the girls, being so nice, and sweet, but at the same time, making [allegedly] these horrible things behind their backs.

Seriously? Renee still bothers me. Go home to your family, already! You have a child! Good assessment of the manipulative elements of the show, caroline_yeah. You definitely covered everything I was thinking about... As far as the photo shoot, I found it a little disturbing and too deliberately sensational, as per the norm this season. I was watching the Yoanna season on VH1 the other day (cycle 2, right?) and it is interesting to see how far the show has come, and also how silly it is too. Whatever, you know I am still watching! PS: WHAT WAS TYRA WEARING AT PANEL?? Ugh, that giant curly blonde weave with the head scarf, blech. She is a total hot mess, I love it.
Okay, I didn't see the episode, but that photoshoot is messed up. I can't even tell which girl is which. Does one of them appear to have her breast cut off? Wow. That's sexy, and super "high fashion," dontcha think? There might be something to what caroline_yeah is saying. For all of Tyra's self-righteousness about expanding the typical ideals of female beauty, she still perpetuates misogynist tropes, while humiliating and exploiting the girls whenever possible. But hey, that's the fashion world--and that entertainment! No wonder I can't stop watching the darn show.
This episodes idea of the photoshoot "Crime Scenes" reminds me of Melanie Pullen's photographs. It is exactly like it. High Fashion Crime Scenes.

Yeah I wonder about these coincidences too. It's like they're feeding off the bad things that happens to these girls. Woo ratings. Anyway, really liked the photos this time around and sad Felicia had to go, she had a funny attitude.

Ooh, the mutilation, torturing, and killing of women! So hot! I can't wait until they start glamorizing slavery or eroticizing genocide. That will be fierce! Wait...that'd be horribly repugnant and clearly an incitement of violent hate (Think: Birth of a Nation). But when violence, no matter how extreme, is directed at women (and girls), well that's damn entertainment--and sexy. Lovely. Seriously, ladies, educate yourself about the power of dehumanization (Those photos dehumanize you, whether you like it or not, along with every other female). Overwhelming people with this hateful message normalizes such cold brutality (The comments show that). Those women and girls that you read about in the paper that are raped and/or killed are real people just like you and me and sexualizing their torture and death is just horribly disturbing.

Yes, Brits weave is HORRENDOUS and Renee is growing on me for some odd reason. Im so ecstatic that both 'plus' size models are still in the running!

I loved this photo shoot..maybe they realized that last season was horrendous and campy and decided to actually step it up. I have to say, I am really hoping that Renee actually does change her attitude a little..she really did seem to be starting with being nice to Jael and braiding Brittany's hair...or maybe I'm just overly optimistic. I loved her picture too..
I loved the dead photos in this last shoot. most of the girls looked pretty good dead. and i still hate renee, she just gets on my damn nerves. i like diana and sara. and brittany's hair is getting worse every week.
