Ridley Scott's gritty gangster drama easily took first place at the box office this past weekend, making American Gangster's opening weekend the highest-grossing for any R-rated crime drama in history. The film brought in a mighty $46.3 million over the weekend.

In second place was Seinfeld's Bee Movie, which also raked in an impressive amount: just over $39 million. Saw IV continued its reign of terror in third place, bringing in $11 million, while Dan in Real Life followed closely behind. 30 Days of Night rounded out the box office top five with $4 million.
This weekend Christmas comes early with Fred Claus. There will also be the Coen Bros. Western No Country for Old Men and the Robert Redford political drama Lions for Lambs opening nationwide.

2Didn't get a chance to watch this yet but I'll definitely be checking it out soon.
3I saw it yesterday. It was a really cool story! But it definitely helped that Common was in it. Yum-a-Dum-Dum!!!
4i liked it... the fact that it was a true strory.. but i guess i just expected a little more from it.. but all in all it was a good movie!
5I saw it friday and loved it.
6i want to see it still. i havent gotten to see it. i love denzel though. such a good bad guy and he has that 'swag' you gotta love when he is one.
7black star power baby!
8American Gangster was a good movie and yes Denzel and Russell played their parts well!
9American Gangster was really good, although it's nothing we haven't seen before, but a solid film nonetheless.
10I'm getting really excited for No Country for Old Men this weekend! Oh, and Fred Claus too (but don't tell anyone)
Disclaimer: I'm not a big movie fan
11This was the first movie I've seen in over 6 months. I liked the story line only because it was true. If it wasn't a true story I would have thought it was marginal. Good acting but not a stretch for either of the lead actors. And yes, Common is very, very hot.
