The Alchemist to Be Adapted by Laurence Fishburne

Laurence Fishburne is planning to write and direct an adaptation of Paulo Coelho's adventure novel The Alchemist. As the Variety article puts it, the "story centers on a young Spaniard who embarks on a quest to find a hidden treasure within the Egyptian pyramids."

And yet, this book is so much more than just that story! This is one of the few books I've read several times, finding new inspiration with each additional read. I have faith Fishburne could do some good things with an adaptation, but this is one book to definitely read if you haven't yet before it's brought to Hollywood. And then come back so we can discuss it.

this book is amazing, but i dont think that it should be a movie. it has too much going on.

This is such an inspiring and enlightening book, one of the best I have ever read. Movies never live up to the book but hopefully they can do this book justice. As for the young spaniard..Gael Garcia Bernal would be great!

This is one of my favorite books of all time ... and I'm not too sure how it will translate onto film. Its much more philisophical than can possibly be transferred onto film ... not much action until the end. I guess I'll just have to wait and see buuut for anyone that hasn't read it and wants to find ways ot change your life then this book is a must, and def read it before it becomes a movie!

Can't wait to read this one. Laurence Fishburne is one of my favorite actors; hopefully, as writer and director of this project he will do it justice.

Ive never read this book but I hate it how all these books are getting made into Hollywood movies. Some of my favourite books ever like 'The Lovely Bones' and 'The Time Travelers Wife' are and that really annoys me!
