I guess Jack Bauer isn't retiring any time soon: 24 is about to be made into a full-length feature film starring Kiefer Sutherland. The show's two-hour TV movie in 2008, "Redemption," was both successful and satisfying — and a good indication that the big screen version of 24 could be awesome as well.
The Simpsons and The X-Files were made into films while their TV counterparts were still on the air, but it's not known if the production on the 24 movie will start before or after the series ends.
Old TV series have long been mined for movie material; right now, The A-Team and Gunsmoke are headed to the movies, but what current TV shows would you want to see jump from the small to big screen? Lost is an obvious one, while Mad Men has the kind of production value that could translate into a film. What TV shows would you like to see turned into a movie?

It's a good week for Hollywood actresses! Today comes the announcement of oodles of casting news in the works, as these famous ladies line up for big-screen parts.
Katherine Heigl is taking over Reese Witherspoon's role in the long-dormant project One for the Money based on the chick lit novel by Janet Evanovich. The story follows an unemployed lingerie buyer (Heigl) who takes up bounty hunting to make some cash. I can picture Heigl balancing the working girl with the kick-buttness needed, but — to quote Izzie Stevens herself — seriously?
Cate Blanchett is signing on for Hanna, a drama which centers around a 14-year old (Saoirse Ronan) who's been raised to be an assassin by her dad (Eric Bana). No word on Blanchett's role, but she could be a dead-ringer for Ronan's mother. Just a thought.
James Franco is getting his leading lady for Danny Boyle's 127 Hours. And the lucky woman is: Amber Tamblyn. I'm surprised to see Tamblyn land such a juicy movie role; it's definitely overdue.
Rachel Weisz is joining Jim Sheridan's Dream House, a thriller about a husband (Daniel Craig) and wife (Naomi Watts) who move into a house that was the scene of a murdered family. Weisz is set to play their neighbor.
Who needs an ensemble romantic comedy when you can have an equally star-studded action thriller? Steven Soderbergh has lined up three Oscar winners — and one nominee (sorry, Jude) — for his upcoming film, Contagion. Matt Damon and Jude Law are already on board, while the lovely Kate Winslet and Marion Cotillard are circling the project.
Contagion focuses on the posing threat of a deadly virus, telling the story through multiple arcs and plot lines (think Traffic meets Outbreak). Even if the premise sounds a bit stale, the ridiculously talented cast is more than enough to get me worked up about this one — especially since we know how well Jude Law and Matt Damon play off each other (just think The Talented Mr. Ripley).
To kick-start the Hollywood week portion of auditions, we'll be saying good-bye to guest judges as Ellen DeGeneres takes her place on the panel — and I cannot wait to see how she meshes with the team (particularly the curmudgeonly Simon Cowell).
DeGeneres's involvement actually gets me pretty amped for this season. The franchise was starting to feel a little stale — you can only hear "dawg" catchphrases so many times — and her humor will help balance Cowell's curtness. My personal wish: I would love to see her do her own version of "Pants on the Ground"!
Cat Deeley looked casual and cute outside the BBC Radio One studios in London. She wore black skinny jeans and kept warm with a feminine white pom pom scarf and soft green leather jacket (similar in color to this one by Tory Burch), adding a Pauric Sweeney python bag and tough combat boots to give the look more of an edge.
