Oz the Great and Powerful costars James Franco and Mila Kunis are sharing the screen again — this time in a less whimsical context. The two play parents in Tar, the story of poet C.K. Williams. The first trailer has arrived, and it's pretty abstract, to say the least. Franco is one of several actors who play Williams throughout the course of his life as he drives to New York City for a poetry reading and reflects back on the moments that shaped him. Jessica Chastain also stars as his mother in flashbacks to his boyhood growing up in the '40s and '50s.
The movie is written and directed by 12 NYU students, so as you can imagine, there's a lot going on here. In fact, between Chastain's presence and the sun-drenched shots, this could practically be a sequel to The Tree of Life. I'm not totally convinced I want to see the movie yet, but I would like to see more of Zach Braff as Williams's pal. Tar has no official US release date yet, but you can watch the trailer after the jump.
