We recently heard the news that Starz is turning the 2006 Best Picture Oscar winner Crash into a television series. Much of the movie's original creative team — including the director Paul Haggis and his co-writer Bobby Moresco — is reassembling for the project, which is encouraging, though I still wonder what shape it will take. According to Don Cheadle, who will produce the series, "This series will present an opportunity to delve into many subjects, not just race relations in LA. I don't think you can do 13 episodes on that subject and keep people interested."
What do you think about the idea to make a Crash series? Will you be watching?

I really liked the movie so I would probably check out the show.
1Nope. It was an ugly, poorly written, overrated movie and I want nothing more to do with it ever again.
2it's doubtful but i don't know. i never saw the whole movie - so i can't imagine that a TV show would hold my attention
3I don't see how they could turn it into a show
4No no no.
5noooo. the movie was kind of a disappointment. not a fan
6Thanks, Whiplash Girl, you summed it up perfectly.
7I'm glad I'm not the only one who didn't like the movie! I get a annoyed whenever I look at the Netflix top 100 movies and still see it at #1.
8I didn't mind the movie, but I won't watch. I don't like television shows based on movies.
9That movie was God-awful. Nice to see that most of y'all thought the same thing--a lot of people I know loved it and I cannot for the life of me see why. Overwrought, cliché-ridden...ugh. Come on.
10i loved the movie and i will definitely be watching this.
11hell yes! I loved that movie!
12I wasn't a big fan of Crash the movie, because I felt it overly simplified many of the issues and relied on stereotypes. However, I could almost see the concept working better in TV form, if it were in the right hands, so I vote "maybe."
13Horrible movie. No. No. No. I agree with you nancita: oversimplified some serious issues.
14That isn't my biggest problem though; has no one heard of Crash by JG Ballard? It's one of the most important novels of the 20th century, and it was made into a movie in 1996 by a little known guy called Cronenberg... anyone? Isn't there some Hollywood rule about this?
I'm not a huge fan of the movie either, so I doubt that I would watch more than the first episode, it even that.
15I will not support anything that keeps making Paul Haggis any money at all.
16Junior Bruce - you are dead on- I never comment on posts, but I had to for this one because it is my personal mission to spread the word about the 1996 film whenever someone brings up this over-rated after school special. I have recently become obsessed with J.G. Ballard (he has a new autobiography out that I am anxiously awaiting) and I am so annoyed that anytime I mention Crash they think I am talking about this pieces of crap. I was talking about James Spader a while back, and said how great he was in Crash. Then someone said "James Spader wasn't in Crash." I stopped, realized I was talking to the uninformed, and said politely "No, the other Crash, the one with sex and car crashes." People must think I am insane, but Ballard is brilliant, and Cronenberg made and excellent adaptation back in 1996.
Now, if someone mentioned making a series based on the 1996 film, THAT I will support. This crap will just continue to perpetuate the confusion.
17I found the film way too depressing and sad, a whole tv show would just be too much. I also agree on the oversimplification that others have mentioned.
18NO!!! As it is I wish I could have the two hours I spent with the movie back.
19Cronenberg is not necessarily a little known name, when Crash came out, I thought his movie was being remade.
20the movie was amazing but i don't think they can pull off a tv series.
21I loved the movie, but I can't imagine watching it in series form.
22I thought the film was nothing short of awful. I couldn't believe it won the Best Picture Oscar at all, and also over Brokeback Mountain.
23That's where Hollyweird went horrendously wrong.
I rather enjoyed it, I find that most people who didn't have never had to deal with such issues, and clearly don't deal with them on a regular basis. It did simplify things a lot, but what can you really say about the many sides of one issue in only a couple of hours AND make your point heard in a way that everyone will appreciate? =/
Heard about the Spader version, never saw it, but I'd like to.
As for them making a series, I hope it goes over well, and doesn't go the way of Larenz Tate in South Central, which was also underrated.
24Some things should be left alone.
25No, I didn't like the movie.
26@insidesusan: Ha! A series based on JGB's Crash! Awesome - that'd have to be on HBO. They could weave some of the Atrocity Exhibition stuff in. (If you're into JGB, my favourites are: High Rise, Concrete Island, The Unlimited Dream Company and Rushing to Paradise... and obviously, the two above.)
@jinx: I think we're on the same page here. My propensity for sarcasm has muddled my message - D Cronenberg rules... but don't get me started on remakes!
27I agree, so many good movies. And its weird, I never used to be a horror fan, but I saw his movies in a different light. I love a Cronenberg interview, the man intrigues the heck out of me.
28I won't get you started on remakes, if you don't get me started! I loathe them.
