There is news today that Beyonce will return to the big screen to play legendary songstress Etta James in a movie about the music scene in 1950's Chicago. Other music legends that will be brought to life include Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf and Elvis Presley.
I enjoyed Beyonce in Dreamgirls when she played a beautiful lead doo-wop girl, but Etta James is known more for her powerful voice than "it-girl" good looks. What do you think about this casting choice? Can you see a stunner like Beyonce playing a young Etta James?

2I think Jen Hudson would be a much better choice. But Frenchy from way back when on American Idol would be even better.

8I've never thought of Beyonce as being a good actress. I think they should go with a more talented lesser-known name instead of casting a superstar just for her name value.

I think in this case, an 'unknown' should get to play Etta...I also think these bio-pics are getting alittle ovedone....But my opinion doesnt matter so meh

And heck, as JJ pointed out, Etta doesn't think so either, although she's remaining positive: "It's a privilege and an honor to have somebody like that girl. I don't think she looks like me, but that's all right. They can fix that up."
Etta is going to work with Beyonce on both the acting and singing, so hopefully the pointers can make this all come together.

34I think she can do it, matter of fact she pulled it of. Even though she doesn't look much like Etta James she really pulled it off. I really like the ending of the movie when she was singing "I'd Rather Go Blind" she showed so much emotion i really loved it.
