No love for Angelina Jolie's A Mighty Heart performance? Tim Burton robbed of a Best Director nod? Into the Wild and Charlie Wilson's War barely mentioned at all? It doesn't take long before discussion of the Oscar nominations turns to who got robbed. So, use the comments below to vent: What's the worst snub of this year's Oscars?

Marionnaud
Dessous
Jovovich-Hawk
I think James McAvoy got robbed.
1I was surprised about Tim Burton. A little upset actually. I was also surprised about the snub to Angelina. But that one kinda made me happy.
2I'm upset Angelina didn't get a nomination, as well as James McAvoy...
3I haven't seen Into the Wild or A Mighty Heart, but I fell asleep in Charlie Wilson's War. For me, that's saying something.
I'm surprised that Josh Brolin wasn't nominated for No Country, & that 3:10 to Yuma received almost no love at all. As for James McAvoy, I think he most certainly deserved a nom for Atonement....I just don't know who I would bump off the list!
In my honest opinion, I think that No Country should sweep the awards. That movie really made an impact on me, & it was just SO well done.
4I think Tim Burton and Sweeney Todd missing out on Director and Picture. Also, the fact that neither Keira Knightley or James McAvoy got nods for Atonement. Finally that Hairspray got no nods at all (I wasn't expecting anything major, but like costumes or make up or music).
5Emile Hirsch absolutely should have been nominated. I was surprised with the lack of young talent in the Best Actor category.
6i agree with james
7The worst? Keira not being nominated best actress in a leading role!
83:10 to Yuma was totally robbed. Christian Bale and Russell Crowe were AMAZING in that movie. :pfft:
9McAvoy and Burton were robbed!
10Atonement was a beautiful film but I don't think that McAvoy or Knightley got robbed. There was very stiff competition in those categories.
11Burton so got robbed!
12Johnny Greenwood for the there will be blood score!
13Tim Burton was robbed, as usual. Joe Wright and Sean Penn were also overlooked in the Directing category which saddened me very much. I can see how the actors in Atonement were overlooked due to the ensemble nature of the film. While I loved the film and thought the performances were top notch, I am not surprised to see James and Keira omitted from the awards.
14James McAvoy
15Oh, and why does Christian Bale always get ignored? His performance in Rescue Dawn was one of the best I've seen ever. On that note, Steve Zahn should have been nominated for Supporting Actor for that film. That performance was breathtaking.
16Yiddidea, I was just about to say the EXACT same thing. If the Academy can find some amazing performances in small movies, such as La Vie en Rose, why is everyone ignoring Rescue Dawn? Bale and Zahn were both amazing.
17I love that Marion Cottilard and Julie Christie got nominated for their respective performances. Both films were incredible and incredibly acted. If you haven't seen La Vie en Rose and/or Away from Her - Go and see it now - both performances are heart-breaking and real.
I was dissapointed Angelina Jolie didn't get recognized for her role in A Mighty Heart. I was pleasantly surprised at her subtle performance and thought she at least deserved a nomination.
Also, Tim Burton -- should have gotten a nod for director. It's a shame he never gets nominated.
18I completely agree with everyone who said Christian Bale got robbed. He pulled out two AMAZING performances in 3:10 to Yuma and Rescue Dawn (as always) this year and got jack. Steve Zahn should have gotten something for Rescue Dawn as well.
Also Josh Brolin turned out two great performances in American Gangster and No Country for Old Men and got no love. Also I was hoping that "Once" would be this year's "In America" and get some great nominations, but alas, that did not happen either.
19I was pretty bummed that Keira and James were snubbed, but I suppose the competition was pretty stiff. The two of them have plenty of time to have their Oscar moments. Burton definitely deserved a nomination, too.
I don't want to hate on Cate Blanchett, but wasn't Elizabeth: The Golden Age kind of panned by the critics? Surely part of that had to do with her acting? I don't know.. I just find it strange that she was nominated for Best Actress for that role when that movie wasn't exactly loved like the others were..
20I love reading what you all thought of the list. This gives me a reminder that there are still so many other great movies out there that I've yet to see! American Gangster (I had no clue Josh Brolin was in that too), Rescue Dawn, A Mighty Heart, Into The Wild, etc.
It's certainly been a great year for movies, that's for sure! I've never had such strong opinions on so many catagories, & that's a good thing.
21Once was a favorite movie and no nominations. That is sad. I can say that I am glad that Julie Roberts did not get nominated. I thought there were plenty of other actresses that could have played that role.
I am happy that Philip Seymour Hoffman and Laura Linney, who are some of my favorite actors were nominated.
What can you say about Daniel Day-Lewis - he is incredible and will always win hands down.
22I was too busy being excited that Juno and Ellen Page got nominated to even worry about who got robbed.
23There are a few I'm bummed about: Tim Burton, Sean Penn, Into the Wild, etc. I'm only annoyed that Angelina didn't get nominated because I took the time to watch A Mighty Heart this weekend thinking it would be one of the nominated films.
There is one snub that I feel so strongly about: Ben Foster!!! Russell Crowe and Christian Bale were fantastic in 3:10, but Ben Foster outshone them all. He was phenomenal and he hasn't been recognized once this awards season, not even with a nom. I'm sooo annoyed by this!
24There were probably a lot of good ones that didn't get a nod, but I am so happy that Angelina didn't get one. I am so tired of her.
25Phasekitty - Good call! How could I forget about Ben Foster?? He was brilliant in 3:10 to Yuma. Heck, he was brilliant in Alpha Dog too. At some point someone needs to notice his talents.
26James McAvoy was robbed
27I haven't seen any of these movies but I know initially there was a lot of buzz around Atonement that seems to have died down significantly. I love the book so I'm afraid to see it. I haven't seen Juno but I'm skeptical about Ellen Page. I saw her in Hardy Candy and I have seen parts of Juno, and I feel like she is just playing a wise-cracking, sarcastic teen again. In Hard Candy I really felt like she did come across as authentic...I don't know how to explain it but it really felt like a performance. Maybe if I saw all of Juno I would feel differently.
28Sarah Polley's direction in Away From Her. This was one of the most beautiful movies I have seen in ages.
29@Katiefrog
I've seen both Juno and Hard Candy. Page's performance in Juno--sarcastic and witty but with a heart of gold--stands miles apart in my mind to her in Hard Candy. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the idea of Hard Candy but found her performance lacking believability. Either way she is still one of the most talented young actresses out there today.
30yiddidea- I agree 100%! Ben Foster is such an amazing talent that needs to be recognized soon! I used to think it was just me (I've got a thing for boys that have a little bit of crazy going on behind their eyes...), but a lot of people have commented on how awesome he was in 3:10 so I feel justified
Katiefrog- don't be afraid to see Atonement because of the book- trust me, it totally does it justice. I loved both the book and the movie, if you want some more reassurance, you can look at my Book to Film comparison here: http://teamsugar.com/group/65258/blog/912981
31is Cate blanchet that good?? I like her job, but... I think it is becoming a tradition to nominate her in two categories...
32Christian Bale!!!!! Christian Bale....if only to see him all dressed up dapper in a suit....
33Keira and James were snubbed, as well as Joe Wright. EGREGIOUS!
34I am disappointed Angelina was not nominated.
353:10 to YUMA got totally robbed. The movie single-handedly breathed new life in to the western genre and the stars (Christian Bale, Russell Crowe, who they seem bent on ignoring after his wins a few years ago, and of course, Ben Foster) deserved some recognition for their hard work and wonderful film. I am so upset on this one. I hate westerns and I LOVED THIS MOVIE!
36Oh and Depp gets love for Sweeney (which was fabulous), but no more love for the final Pirates.... such a shame. .
Keira and James for Atonement and Tim Burton for Sweeney Todd (I can kind of see it not being nominated for BP but seriously, he did amazing things with that film and totally deserved at least a nomination for Directing).
37I haven't seen everything, so I can't really judge. But I found the comments very interesting.
38Phasekitty, I love you books to movies blogs!
Eddie Vedder should have been nominated for Best Original Song!! But, the song from Once is fantastic and I hope they win. Hopefully there is an award show just so they can perform...
39Tim Burton got robbed. I am so excited about Juno and Ellen Page though!
40I really want to see Atonement, I'm seeing it tomorrow.
Tim Burton forever!
Hello?! No love for Hairspray!!! That is the biggest snub of all. I can see why it didn't get any noms for acting as the cast was huge and most of the performances were fairly quirky. But what about direction or costume or set design or makeup? Or original score and song? I can't beleive that Enchanted got three noms for original song and they couldn't even nominate 'Come so far, Got so far to go'. Bullsh*t. That's all I'm saying!
Also, why all the love for Michael Clayton? That movie was so convinced of it's own brilliance, it was boring and confusing.
41Now I haven't watched almost any of these movies, but I agree that Tim Burton, Christian Bale and Ben Foster are underrated. As for Johnny Depp, how many times are they going to nominate the man and not give him anything? Jesus, he's amazing I can't believe he's never won.
42Also I haven't watched hairspray but the trailers are good enough for me to say they probably should've given the makeup nomination Norbit (WTF I know great makeup but they always nominate Eddie Murphy movies in this category) got to Hairspray. Also, am I the ONLY HUMAN BEING on this planet who hated Enchanted?!!!
WHY ARE YOU COMMENTING ON MOVIES YOU GUYS HAVEN'T EVEN SEEEEEN!!
people, commenting isn't necessary. if you don't know what youre talking about then don't say anything. comments: "i havent seen any of these movies but..." are annoying.
as someone who has seen all of them.. Id say the ongoing snub that Oscar has against Ridley Scott is unwarranted, as American Gangster should be up there (and isn't at all).
43Also undermentioned is 3:10 to Yuma.
Why are there no Asian movies mentioned in the foreign films? I mean, there were so many great ones to choose from this year!
Lastly, I think we should all be honest and admit we're happy to see Angelina isn't there.
Angelina was totally robbed.
44Into the Wild was fully robbed. =(
45Probably very few of you have heard of it, cause I don't think it's out in the states yet... but I was hoping this excellent Romanian film, 4 months, 3 weeks, 2 days would be nominated in the foreign film category.
Of course I am biased, being Romanian myself, but - it really was a moving film that I felt well portrayed the difficulties women faced during communism (where abortion was outlawed and it was difficult to get birth control).
And it won the Palme d'Or at Cannes, so there are other people out there who thought it was good! If you have a chance to see it, I encourage you to go. Don't be put off by the subtitles - plus if you understand Italian or Portuguese, probably you will understand a lot of the Romanian language because it's similar.
46Thank you for your post Girl Friday, I will watch out for that movie.
