No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood led the field this morning when the Oscar nominations were announced in Hollywood. Each film snagged eight nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay.
After it raked in a huge number of Golden Globe nominations, Atonement made less of a splash here, scoring nods for Best Picture and Best Supporting Actress but largely getting shut out of other major categories.
Juno and Michael Clayton are the other two films that will compete for Best Picture when the awards are presented Feb. 24. Juno scored a total of four nominations, while Michael Clayton nabbed seven. To see the full list of nominees, just read more.

I can't tell you how happy I am with these nominations! GO JUNO!! WOOHOO!!! No Country For Old Men is SUCH a great movie, & I'm really glad it's in the lead with nominations. Javier Bardem is quite possibly the scariest bad guy I've ever watched on screen. I love that Viggo was nominated for Eastern Promises, which was a great movie as well. This is going to be an Oscars to remember for me.....& a hard one to pick!
1Buzz, what are your thoughts of the list?
2Yay, Ellen Page!
3sfmastiff — Don't worry, I'll be back later with my thoughts. It's still early here, and I need coffee before I think that hard about anything!
4Let's hope some people will come to the ceremony!
5OMYGODD!!!! ELLEN PAGE!!!! I'm so excited for her!
6Daniel Day-Lewis...Who hoo!! I LOVE him.
7people are going to pissed at me for saying this but.... why is juno getting so many nominations? I saw the movie i thought it was good but definitely not oscar worthy. Everyone keeps saying the dialogue was so refreshing, really? I've seen tons of movies like this.
8The Driving Bell and The butterfly should have been in it's place.
I think this is the first time in a long time that I've liked so many people nominated...but the one person that I *really* would like to see with an Oscar would be Javier Bardem. I've seen all of his movies and I thought he should've won a few years back for "Before Night Falls". I also love that Johnny Depp keeps getting nominated now, and Laura Linney (love her), Ellen Page, and Saoirse Ronan were all amazing in their roles. I was hoping to see Josh Brolin and Ryan Gosling somewhere on this list, as well as more nominations for "3:10 to Yuma", but this looks like an awesome list. Let's hope the ceremony goes on and that people actually show up
9for the whole driving bell thing, i'm meaning it should be in it's place for all the hype.
10I'm SO happy "Falling Slowly" got nominated! Can't wait to see them perform it at the show.
11em1282, I agree with you about Josh Brolin & 3:10 to Yuma! I haven't seen Ryan's performance yet in Lars, but I plan to soon. All in all, I'm really psyched to know the winners!
12Madchen, I really doubt there will be an Oscar's show this year
. It's a shame.
13workin9to5, for some reason I'm pretty confident the show won't be cancelled. I don't know why.
It would be a real shame, if Glen and Marketa didn't get to perform their song...
14So "Juno" is this year's "Little Miss Sunshine", the indie might in with the big dogs for best picture. I liked Juno, but I would be a little disappointed if it one Best Picture. No offense, I just think some of the other choices left more of an impact on audiences. Well, me anyway.
Totally unlikely, but wouldn't it be cool if Cate won in both actress categories? Haha.
Very pleased to see Enchanted triple nominated for best song. That's well deserved.
Btw, this might sound stupid, but I really can't see the difference between sound mixing and sound editing. Can't you just give out one oscar for "sound"? Just my opinion.
15looking at this list I'm reminded of how many great movies there were this past year... too many to honor each properly.
16how lucky for us!
I think James McAvoy got robbed. He should have been part of the best actor nominee list.
I'm also shocked that Joe Wright wasn't nominated for directing Atonement. It was so beautifully done and I tend to believe that movies with Best Picture Noms should also get Best Director Noms.
Loved 'Juno' but don't think that any of the acting was Oscar-worthy. Ellen Page is cute though and has a bright future ahead of her.

18I'm with the people who expected Josh Brolin to be on the list - I thought he was really amazing in No Country, and also so much better than Javier Bardem (really, all he did was not smile and have a freaky haircut).
19Yay Juno
20also wished I could've seen Amy Adams get a nod for her turn in Enchanted. I know its just a family film, but she so PERFECTLY played the character. In my opinion, that's good acting.
21miss-britt, i agree. i loved juno because it was cute and feel good and ellen page won my heart but it wasn't oscar worthy to me. to be honest, i thought knocked up had a better screenplay. into the wild and the diving bell were better films overall.
22Wow. "Into the Wild", totally snubbed (besides supporting actor nom). Not even original score or original song? I'm not a big Eddie Vedder fan but as a musician, those songs were some of the most powerful part of the movie. Oscars are fun, but they are not without politics...
23I'm sure everyone on the list is deserving, but WHEN will Christian Bale ever get his due? Rescue Dawn, 3:10 to Yuma--every performance of his is amazing...he's got to be the most underrated actor in Hollywood.
24Yay, Johnny Depp!! He's been nominated so many times, hope he'll win!
25Juno, Juno, Juno, Ellen Page, Ellen Page, Ellen Page, but aside from that - I really hope there's a ceremony - just for the sake of seeing the three musical numbers from Enchanted.
26I'm thrilled that "Falling Slowly" is nominated.
27Yay, Casey Affleck!
I'm also glad Amy Ryan was nominated!
28nuttmegs--I agree, Bale is looooong overdue for some recognition. He also is apparently the coolest guy--he stopped into my friend's pub a few months ago while he was here shooting. Nicest guy to chat with AND a big tipper.
29Oh and I agree with McAvoy being snubbed. He made "Atonement" what it was, I thought. Then again I still haven't gotten over Ewan McGregor being snubbed for "Moulin Rouge". Guess someone doesn't appreciate hot, talented Scottish guys in the Academy.
30I'm happy for Daniel Day Lewis and for Ellen Page but the rest is very predictable. They should risk a little more. I know the Oscars are not the Independent Spirit Awards but come on, Michael Clayton? Seriously?
Christian Bale should get some recognition, he's a great actor.
31I wanted Amy Adams to be nominated!
Well, at least I hope to see her perform in the ceremony.
If there is one...
32A nod for Norbit? Ha.
33Go Juno!!!
34Well, I hope this time they will let Johnny go home with his statue!! Maybe without the party and all those celebrations it could be the right time!!
