David Milch and HBO, together again.
Milch, the creator of the beloved Deadwood [1] and the reviled John from Cincinnati [2], is taking his third shot at an HBO series [3] with a new cop drama.
What's the story?
Milch is going back to his Hill Street Blues and NYPD Blue roots with this one, called Last of the Ninth. The show is set in the New York Police Department in 1972, and Milch said the story revolves around "an older detective's mentoring of a young detective returned from Vietnam in a department fiscally crippled, under attack by revolutionaries, and which has been brought by allegations of systemic corruption into public disrepute." Sounds intense.
Maybe this could be the next great cop show.
With HBO's The Wire [4] and FX's The Shield [5] both ending after this season, it seems like a good time for a new, dark, gritty police drama. What do you think?
