Recently, someone asked me if I'd seen Dancer in the Dark. Embarrassed, I said no, but quickly pointed out that it's in my
If Notflixing is sending a movie back without watching it and TiNoing is letting an unwatched program languish on your TiVo, then I declare "waitflixing" to be what happens when you add a movie to your queue but keep moving other films ahead of it so you never actually watch it. (The same concept applies if you don't have Netflix — it's the movie you always mean to rent, until you get distracted by a shiny new release or a favorite rom-com.) Until recently, The Wire was a waitflix for me, and Basquiat still is.
I can't be the only one who does this, so tell me: What movies are you waitflixing? And, be honest: Do you think you'll ever see them?

Vero Moda
Tamaris
Maison Martin Margiela
Great question, Buzz. The Good German, Letters from Iwo Jima, Amadeus, Night at the Museum, The Nanny Diaries and Sicko have been bumped so many times, I've quit counting. I'll eventually see Sicko, for sure; the rest will probably stay on the wait list for quite awhile longer.
1I am probably waitflixing about 100 films right now. It is that ridiculous! There are so many. Most notably The Graduate. I want to see it, badly! I just never get around to it. And Easy Riders. I find it happens mostly to those classic/older movies or movies I've already seen but loved. I tend to move newer trendier movies to the front of the line first.
2I keep bumping License to Wed, Lady in the Water, Saved!, Snakes on a Plane, and the first season of the Muppet Show.
3Sooo many I can't even list them all. My queue *never* goes below 150 or so.
4I don't subscribe to Netfilx or Blockbuster but I am thinking about singning up today.
5Walk the Line, tons of old classics I SHOULD watch but never will, Swingers and Iron Jawed Angels to name a few. I wish Netflix gave you some organizational options for your que...I had to set up a different profile for all the TV shows I want to watch just so I could manage all the movies I want to see.
6We've got about 300 movies in our queue, but since the BF handles it for the most part, I'm not sure what's Waitflixing. All I know is that every once in a while, I'll ask him to add something or bump something up for me and he'll do it.
We've been watching so many TV shows on DVD lately that most of the actual movies are Waitflixing.
7Haha. This is funny. I waitflix all the time because I move the newer movies up to the top. Every once in a while something from the middle of the list pops up at my house because it was the first thing available.
8Also, WhiplastGirlchild... you picture... HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
9LOL! Every week I have to delete something out of the Queue since I caught it on cable or changed my mind..
But this is what is currently queued..
Hard Candy
10Mr. Brooks
Reno 911
Shooter
March of the Penguins
The Corporation Documentary
Born Into Brothels Documentary
Shopgirl
A Love Song for Bobby Long
Prozac Nation
Year of the Dog
The Libertine
World's Most Dangerous Drug Documentary
Dear Wendy
The United States of Leland
Blue
Half Nelson
The Fountain
Catch and Release
A Scanner Darkly
Micheal Clayton
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
A Mighty Heart
Yeah, I've got about 300 in my queue right now. They're mostly arty foreign films and documentaries. I think I'll get around to seeing them eventually, especially over the summer when there's no more tv.
11live free or die hard
Reign over me
music and lyrics
catch and release
blood diamonds
babel
perfect stranger
i know that i'll eventually get to them - it's just a matter of time
12lots of the "classic" old movies
13I've got nearly 200 in my queue, and at least 150 of them have been waitflixing for almost two years. Most notably are Oscar nominated films from 2006 that I didn't get around to when I was trying to see them all before the ceremony such as Hustle and Flow, The Constant Gardner, and Capote. Also TV shows that I've been meaning to get into for forever, like Dead Like Me and Desperate Housewives. Last year I made a New Year's Resolution to try to get my queue to under 100, but my bf quickly told me to give it up- the point of Netflix is to always be adding movies. I just wish I could get around to watching them faster!
14I have zero! We stopped putting anything but new releases on, so that when they come out on DVD they are the first ones in the mail. We utilize redbox a lot because they send us codes for free movies!
15That's SO me, I've had Harold & Maude, the original Ocean's 11, & Citizen Kane in my queue for QUITE a while. And I continue to watch The Nanny Diaries, Waitress, & Holiday (Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn) & many more romantic comedies! hehehehe
16I completely agree with d9rlcb and freegracefrom's comments. It's these classics, documentaries, and foreign films that I've heard great things about but just can't risk to waste a netflix turnaround (almost 1 movie per week now, Netflix has been pretty lazy lately) for. I'd much rather watch something safe, like The Game Plan versus Ikiru, a 1952 Japanese film...
17This is such an issue for me.... Grizzly Man, Maria Full of Grace, My Own Private Idaho, The Boys of Baraka, God Grew Tired Of Us.... all the depressing ones I'm never in the mood to see!
18Ha! Great question buzz, and I love the "waitflix" coinage. I often go through and clean out my waitflix movies, admitting I will never want to watch them. But some of my current waiters are The Virgin Suicides (never saw it), Dirty Pretty Things (don't know that I really care), and Dances With Wolves, which I pretend I've seen but never have. Shh, don't tell anyone.
19Apocalypto. I only put it on the list to appease my boyfriend, but I have no interest in watching Mayans be disemboweled.
20I don't have Netflix but have been thinking about getting it and after reading all of this i think i might actually get it.
21Ima - take A Scanner Darkly out of your queue. It sucked, BIG time.
22ugh, don't watch Basquiat!!! I had to watch that for an art class and I felt like I wasted part of my life watching that ridiculously horrible movie...just save your self!!
23Strangers With Candy Season 3! Always want it but never get it...
24I try not to put any more than 30 things in my Netflix queue, or I'd wind up Waitflixing a lot more. However I've been really into renting TV shows that I've never seen before and can't, since I don't get HBO or Showtime or any movie channel; so I've been Waitflixing a lot of movies like: V for Vendetta (mostly because I've already seen it), Match Point, Quills, and Immortal Beloved (that's been Waitflixed so long I don't even remember what it was supposed to be about!).
25I've got you all beat....I can't add any more movies! Right now I'm at about 498 (adding movies and shows is an addiction, I know)....a lot of what's in my queue are tv series like The Wire, Oz, Scrubs, Rescue Me, Freaks and Geeks, The X-Files (can't wait till I get to those!). I try not to bump stuff up cause then I'll never watch the older movies and shows.
26I've also been a member since 2004...so I've had time to build up my queue
27I usually watch 3-4 movies a week, so my waitlist is pretty short. Most of the movies everyone has listed I've already seen, but I do have the Nanny Diaries, Sicko, Lady Chatterley and Adam's Apples on waitlist. Only beause there's a long wait for them though.
28Take Hard Candy out ASAP (unless you are into like torture porn and "witty" dialog (sounds like a 40 yr old man trying to be hip)spewing out of Ellen Pages mouth. Scanner Darkly is awesome though.
Good Shepard
29Walmart: The High Cost of Low Price
Pollack
Battlestar Galactica Season 1
Rabbit-Proof Fence
I have a huge wait list. But I've had the same movies at my house for the past 5 months. I haven't got around to watching them so I haven't sent them back. So i've pretty much bought these movies but eventually will have to return them.
30I have over 400 movies in my queue but I fear it'll take a while to get to most of them because I'm so hooked on TV on DVD.
In my queue forever that I'll hopefully get to:
Marty
Sleeper
The Apartment
Elevator to the Gallows
The Tin Drum
Chunking Express
In my queue that'll likely stay there forever:
31Gone With the Wind
El Norte
The Birth of a Nation
My New Year's resolution was to not touch my Netflix queue, except for adding new films. So far, so good; but I see a lot of notflixing in my future.
32All of the Freaks and Geeks series
Ghandi
Bobby
An American Rhapsody
This Film is Not Yet Rated
Glastonbury
We are the World
and the list goes on....
33I like to keep my queue at no more at 50 movies... I think I'm at close to 60 right now which overwhelms me! I tend to just delete things and then maybe put them on later when my queue gets shorter... Weird system I know. But somehow it seems more manageable to me.
34If I manage to get one movie everyday for the next year, I still won't have gone thru all the films in my que.
35I've had the Godfather trilogy in my queue since I've had my membership. It's currently at 106,107 and 108.
36I have around 300 movies in my queue but the thing I "waitflix" (hehe) the most is probably the Nip/Tuck DVDs... Tons of my friends love this show and I have never seen a single episode so I thought I should check it out. I push it back all the time because I get so busy and don't think I'll have time to sit down and focus on the show, though!
37All of the seasons of Prime Suspect because I hear Helen Mirren is fabulous in it, but I just keep putting it off. Apparently, I'd rather catch up on past seasons of the L word.
38I really liked Hard Candy.
I didn't like Shopgirl (boring) and Prozac Nation (whiny&boring.) Ima has much worse in her queue than Hard Candy. (Reno 911, anyone?)
My queue is full of stuff I think I should see, stuff I'm embarrassed to rent (eg Reno 911), and stuff that I want to see immediately. I'm constantly juggling my queue around, especially when I mail one back and can't remember what I'm getting next. Which reminds me...I better go do that.
39HaHa, so true! I have tons of foreign movies, mostly Pedro Almovadar and other weird stuff like Il Postino. I don't why i don't watch them Volver is one of my top five favorite movies for sure.
40pinkdragonfly...you've GOT to stop waitflixing nip/tuck!
41I waitflixed Motorcycle Diaries so badly that when it came I procrastinated watching it, moved across country with it, thought I'd lost it, paid the fee for losing it, cancelled Netflix, found it, put it on top of my DVD player...and still haven't seen it. It's been two years.
42I have movies sitting in queue from when I first joined in 2001! I'm Netflix's best customer, as I pay monthly but let movies sit for 3 months!
43300, Cold Mountain, The Aviator...
44I have a ridiculous amount of movies in my Queue. Moves that usually waitlisted are Spiderman 3, Happy Gilmore, Harry Potter....soo many to count...
45Molly you should have reported it lost.
Oh, and now Motorcycle Diaries is one of the options for Instant Viewing. It's in my Q but I've yet to see it.
46I have Motorcycle Diaries waitflixed too... Along with Lost in Translation, Brick, Marie Antoinette, Babel and some documentaries that I should watch but don't want to watch. I'm taking A Scanner Darkly off my list right now!
Also, Basquiat and Hard Candy are both fascinating movies...
47Sadly, I have so many movies in my queue, that I am now often told that to add a movie, I have to delete a movie first. Yes, there is a limit to the queue (500, by the way).
48I have around 240 movies in my NetFlix queue and I too have claimed a movie was in there when asked about it! It really was...but yes, I don't know that I'll get around to those last 200 anytime soon..they've been there for some years. I add new releases to the front of the queue all the time. I do go through the list and remove things I've ended up seeing on video or TV though....sad thing is I usually end up adding a couple more movies every time I visit - darn those 'recommended' links! Most of my 'waitflixed' movies are classics or indies.
49I think I need to copy imabeliever's list. looks sort of well-thought out and a bit smart. My list (though I canceled in favor of on-demand) looked really sad. A lot of romantic comedies and such. Yep, writing that list down now.
50btw people- Music and Lyrics is sooooo bad!!! And Shopgirl though a little slow, is really intersting and touching.
