The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, a film adaptation of the French memoir Le Scaphandre et le Papillon, has been getting tons of buzz ever since it premiered at Cannes last year, and that buzz only increased with the two wins the Diving Bell garnered last night at the Golden Globes. Yet many people don't know a thing about it, so in honor of the movie's Best Foreign Language Film win and Julian Schnabel nabbing Best Director, check out the trailer for Diving Bell after the jump.

I never read the book, but the movie was really well done. The only thing that annoyed me was the "arty" way the director had Bauby's visitors move in and out of screen (i.e. his view). What, the hospital didn't have CHAIRS?

However, this trailer is the pits. The French trailer actually shows you what happens in the film. Far better.

8About a week ago, I read the foreword online and had to have the book as I'm an avid reader. I bought it over the weekend, but haven't had the chance to read further than the foreword yet. I'm so looking forward to it, and after I hope I'll get the chance to see the film.
9I read this book when I was a sophomore in college (spring of 2000) - I had a lit teacher that was French that knew Jean-Dominique, and he had us read the book, and watch the documentary. For at least a year after that, I recommended this book to everyone I knew - it's lyrical, evocative, so well written... And to think that he wrote the book by just blinking his eye at the right letter. Such a fabulous brain on that man!
