You can tell that the Project Runway designers this season are beginning to get a little tired. This was exemplified last night when Heidi asked them if they were ready for their next challenge. "Sure," they collectively mumbled. Jillian's face looked especially thrilled. But that was before they heard about their challenge to design an outfit for "one of the most important days of a woman's life." Wedding dress? Nope. Even better: prom dress! This perked the ProjRun team up a bit. That is, of course, except Christian, who thinks prom is "horrible, tacky, and gross."

Christian aside, the other designers really did get into the challenge. Kevin even reminisced about the drama at his own high school prom, namely tanning and stealing booze; he was quick to suggest adding a chastity belt to his dress. To be fair, Christian did have some room to protest. All of the "models" in this challenge were in high school, and subsequently had an opinion about how their prom dresses should look, but only his model was an aspiring designer. As such, she wanted to be very involved with the creation of her dress, from the color to the fabric. She even started sketching. Needless to say, Christian's ego was less than pleased.
Did Christian's ego have anything to worry about? To find out and to see a gallery of all of the looks from last night's Project Runway, read more.
The designers were allotted $250 for fabric and nearly two days to sew for this challenge — not too shabby in the land of PR. Therefore, none of the designers really had an excuse for an ill-conceived or ill-constructed garment. And largely, they didn't disappoint. In fact, I thought this was the first challenge where the designers' true talent prevailed. Don't get me wrong, this has been one of my favorite seasons of Project Runway, but I haven't thought this crew, as a whole, is as strong as past seasons. Last night's episode began to change my mind a bit.
However, I didn't necessarily think all of their creations were suited perfectly for prom, and the judges agreed. Starting with not-so-good . . .
- Rami's green jersey dress was a little too sophisticated for a high-school student, but he had immunity, so he was safe.
- Christian's design wasn't awful, nor was it loathed by the judges, but he got scolded for publicly berating his client.
- Ricky made, in my opinion, the ugliest dress of the bunch. The color was bad, and, surprise, it was poorly executed. Yet, somehow, he skated by yet another week. Weird — I was sure he was a goner as soon as he called his mom.
- Kevin created a short, red dress that also wasn't executed perfectly, despite being told rigidly by Tim to finish the hem (when will the designers learn that you always listen to Tim?). Unfortunately, this was his demise, and Kevin was voted off.
Now on to the good. Surprise of the century was how beautiful Sweet P's dress was! The judges also loved her simple champagne colored gown. But ultimately it was Victorya who won the challenge with her cobalt blue mini. I was on team Sweet P, which certainly came as a shock, as last week I was predicting her dismissal.
What did you guys think about last night's Project Runway? Were you surprised by who was in and who was out? How cute were the pictures of the designers at their own proms? And could you believe that Ricky cried AGAIN (duh)?

I really liked Kevin, and I was sad to see him go. I think Ricky should have been ousted instead...his stuff is always so blah and poorly constructed, and his prom dress was the worst in my opinion. At least Kevin had some nice pieces under his belt.
1I like Victorya's dress more than sweet P's cuz it was a bit more modern and high fashion. Sweet P's dress was very nice, but it lacked that extra something. I think Ricky should go, I found him annoying and such a cry baby. I felt so bad for Christian that girl he had to design for had tacky taste. TAcky tacky tacky
2Ricky needs to go now!
Kevin . . . well it was inevitable honestly, but Ricky should have gone well before him.
I hated that Christian got stuck with that whiny little brat. My lord, her parents should be so ashamed of how they raised her and thank God for television so when that girl sees herself acting the way she did no national TV, hopefully she'll think twice about how she's coming off and change her behavior. She should be ashamed.
3Also,Victoria makes dresses for women who lack curves. I don't like her aesthetic at all, but I get why she won.
4Dear Lord... Why, oh why is Ricky still on the show? Kevin has never been in the "low" category until this week and Ricky has been there more than once and... blah... I've agreed with all of the decisions thus far but this one was miscalled. However, I will blame Kevin on a bad decision in terms of hair & makeup; being a Filipina myself, I know that our hair is better down.
BTW, I'm loving Chris' dresses lately. He really scaled back so I'm hoping to see this upward spiral.
5I agree Ricket shld have left b4 Keven.. Aww I liked Kevin
6It was pretty amusing to watch the pairing of Christian and his girl. I usually love his looks, but not this week. I think that Christian, Rami, and Jillian will make it til the end.
7I didnt like sweet peas dress, but only because i could see the girls belly and pubic mound while she walked, tacky.
I thought kevin should have gone home, that dress was boring, and he didnt listen to Tim...der.
I love christian even more now, because believe me they would have ripped him a new one if he hadnt of said it was all that girls idea. If he would have done something completly "christian" they would have berated him for not listening to her, it was a lose lose situation. She was a monster, know it all, who sneered at the dress one second than made SURE to tell everyone she HELPED design it the next second. I agree with him prom is tacky, horrible and gross
best moment last night. Sweet pea BLUSHING about her prom night. so cute.
8There are times, like this, when I get annoyed that they do not take past challenges into account. Kevin definitely faltered last night, but he has been consistenly in the top up until now. Ricky, on the other hand, has been in the bottom more often than not. Plus, his dress last night completely washed out his model. I am not happy that Ricky was allowed to stay and Kevin was sent packing.
9I really liked Kevin and was sad to see him go, but I was happy that Christian was saved because he is very talented and I love his flamboyant personality.
10I think Rami is the most talented out of all of them and will most likely make it to the final 3.
i thought chris's dress was the best....that green was amazing, and the back was GORGEOUS....plus, who doesn't love a well-hidden slit?? so fab.
and omg, i totally agree with lula....that girl was AWFUL. so bratty, so spoiled, and had that attitude that because she's probably got money, that she's got more "style" than other people....SO wrong!!
and i like rami's dresses...i don't really like HIM. he seems so snotty, and makes the same dress over and over, other than the candy one last week....hello laura bennett!
11Christian is officially my favorite designer this season. He's kept me giggling all along, but last night he was in rare form.
I felt sorry for him because his little girl was really attitudinal from the get go - and I could see his struggle. Do you do what you know will look best and risk the client saying it's not what they asked for, or do you give them what they want and risk sending something out that doesn't represent you as a designer?
I laughed out loud when she informed him that she was "in fashion design". Right. And at 16, I was "in medicine" thinking I was going to be a doctor.
12OMG, lula, YES - Victoria designs dresses for 14 year old boys!!!!! I thought her dress was cute last night, but I feel like it's the same thing she's sent down the runway all season.
13Victorya's dress last night was cute, but something about her really bothers me. I thought Jillian's was going to turn out gorgeous when she mentioned her vision of "opening a jewelry box," but it was disappointing. I usually can't stand Christian and his attitude, but I felt SO bad for him last night - that girl was RUDE and I thought Nina was SO unfair to him. I do NOt think that he blamed his client, but rather pointed out that they had differences so that he could explain his concept better. Plus, that dress looked fantastic for all that tackiness that she had requested!
14RCLdesigngirl that's probably why she won, because her tendency to design shapeless clothing, which might be age appropriate to the judges, but homegirl is afraid of curves.
I would never buy anything she makes.
15I was disappointed by the designers last night. The challenge idea excited me, but the outcome I thought was kind of just "okay." Chris should have been top 3 (if they had even had a top 3) and Ricky definitely should have been booted out. The color of his creation was just so dull and washed that girl's skin away.
16Oh and I also agree that Ricky should GO! STOP CRYING!!!! Like, once, ok. But it seems like he either cries or gets really emotional on EVERY episode! I understand that he's had a difficult life, etc. but I also feel like he is hamming it up for the cameras.
17I haven't watched anything so I don't know who designed what, but the two green ones seemed ok, at least somewhat creative. All of the dresses seem poorly sewn though. They aren't fitting the models well at all. The bronze one looks like something you'd pick up at Target. The various blue ones look ok as well but only the one with the multi-colored fabric over her breasts looks to be fitted well.
18I think Christian is hilarious, I was glad he wasn't the one to go b/c he is so entertaining! I also agree that Chris is doing really well lately, which makes me glad he was able to come back. Plus, he's pretty funny to watch as well! This was definitely my favorite episode of this season, hope more like it are to come!!
19I wanted to strangle Christian's "model". ugh. I hate stupid brats. Anyway, I'm sad to see Kevin go. Ricky should've been sent home if not for this episode but for all the times he's been on the bottom. I think Sweet P should've won. I also think that Gillian's dress looked weird or fit weird on the bust area.
20Wow, I was shocked by Sweet P's too!! I think she should've won, but I did like Victorya's. Rami's was basically the same dress as episode one- I think he needs to toss it up a little. Ricky should have been auf'ed, and I'm sad to see Kevin go. Christian did the best he could with what he was given, so even though it was not that great, he really does have talent.
21I was sad to see Kevin go, he is much more talented than Victorya.
Someone needs to call the plumber because Ricky's faucet are always leaking!!!! AUF with Ricky!!
Christian made me laugh so much last night especially when he said that it was "tickity tacky". His client was sure annoying and UGLY.
Chris is very funny and for once Sweet P, whom I adore, executed a fine piece.
Victorya's was OK and Kit's dress was very cute.
22sumnboutme, I agree-- Jillian's dress was really wierd in the boobs.
23This was a good episode. I actually didn't think Ricky's was that bad. The color, like Michael Kors said, should have been tuned up a notch. I think the dress iteself was okay, just not on the girl. Might have looked better on someone with a different skin tone.
What was wrong with Kevin? He's done so well so far, and last night he acted like he didn't even care! Did he even have a reason for not hemming besides laziness? It didn't look as if he was running out of time or anything. I just don't get it. It's a tough call, because I think the dress was horrible, horrible. Everything about it. Cheap, didn't fit her right - you don't put a girl with big boobs in a halter with no support!!!
I liked Victorya's dress but I agree with others here, I don't like her one bit. I wish she had gotten one of the bigger girls so I could hear her try to be PC by saying "They aren't ideal models ..."
24Why did all of the "clients" walk like men when they came down the runway? I understand they aren't trained models, but I hope they don't walk like that down the street normally.
And did anyone catch the jeans commercial, the one where the guy's in his apartment, pulling up his jeans, and the telephone booth comes through his floor? I've seen that ad before, but with a woman in the phone booth and she smiles at the guy all sexy and seductive. The interesting thing (to me) was that this new version had a guy in the phone booth, and it was still quite suggestive. I think it's the first time I've seen an ad directed at gays. I guess since it was during Project Runway ....?
25I was really excited when I found out they were going to be designing prom dresses, but most of the dresses didn't even look like prom dresses. I couldn't believe Victoria's dress won. That didn't look like a prom dress to me at all, and I thought those gems made it look cheap. Sweet P's was executed well, the color looked great on the girl, and looked like something a girl might actually want to wear to her prom!
26rivrchild - yeah, I've seen the new version of the Levi's commercial on Bravo a few times now. Bravo also shows the gay centric Orbitz ads as well. So far it is only Bravo that I have noticed these though. It is nice to see advertisers having the guts to market to a large segment of these shows audience that have previously been ignored.
27I can't STAND Victoria, or the way she claims other peoples' ideas as her own after-the-fact. She should have been sent home for that freaking ugly dress, but I knew she wouldn't be because it was "youthful." I even predicted that word youthful. BLECH to putting up with her for another two weeks.
Chris's dress was stunning and he should have won. I wanted to wear that dress. Kevin shouldn't have been sent home so early — he really wasn't bad.
28rivrchild, i said the same thing about their walks....SOO manly!! i get not strutting down a runway in heels at 17...but seriously not being able to walk feminine at all??? crazy....
29i'm sorry but i did not jillian's! i thought the top fit her weird and wasn't jillian saying something about how she wanted it to be like a mosaic? what? i guess, maybe, you could call the top that if you had to, but i just think it's a stretch. also, i noticed they BARELY even showed the construction of this one throughout the whole episode. what's up with that?
30I felt so bad for Christian, he thinks that prom is "horrible, tacky, and gross." and his bratty client wanted just that!! Go figure! He was so funny last night, I'm glad he got to stay! I didn't think Kevin's dress was as bad as Ricky's. I loved Chris's dress, what a pretty color and it looked good on that girl!
rivrchild, I did notice the Levi's commercial but I have yet seen the Orbitz one.
31Did anyone else think some of those dresses weren't very prom-like? Maybe my prom was just more formal than most, but noone wore a short dress like that. I would have worn Rami's dress now, but I agree it was a little old for high school.
32ricky should be gone..poor kevin. ricky has been in the botton for almost every challenge...and god he crys.
i thought the judges were actually a little off last night for the most part-prom these days is not like prom when its all formal, long gown. i wore a lime green armani mini dress to min and a knee length one to senior prom that looked identical to ramis(also by an israli designer...coincidence?)
anyway, sweet pea suprised me pleasantly, that she can do glamour, and victoria definately keep youthful aspect in mind.
33Christian's model was the worst!! I would of had to kill her by the end of the show...
34Ricky should have gone home - He has been bad every challage
35i think christian's model is as annoying as christian is. they're both bratty and egotistic so i just don't get why christian gets a pass. he might be funny on tv, but i don't want to imagine how he acts in reality. i can see a lot of ppl disliking him in real life.
and i'm upset kevin is gone. i know he wasn't going to win but couldn't they have kept him a little while longer
36This episode I predicted. After the preview, I guessed immediately Teen prom Dresses and well, I was right.
Personally hated this episode, because well... KEVIN LEFT!!! He was my favorite designer and seeeing him go was not fun. But then again, if Kevin stayed Christian would have left. Personally I just wish Ricky went home. He breaks down way to much and his other designs were never very good.
37i can't believe victorya won! i agree w/ smorzalli, the gems made the dress look cheap. i used to think she was the one to watch, but i really don't like her anymore.
jillz - yeah i didnt think those dresses were very prom-like either!
kevin shoudln't be gone. ricky should have been auf'ed. sweet p should have won!
38While Kevin's dress was all wrong...... Ricky's was just booooh-ring and ill fitting. I'm totally miffed the aufed Kevin over Ricky.
39I haven't seen the show yet, but if the champagne-colored long gown is Sweet Pea's, that's actually one of my least favorites. It looks like it has a terrible fit on the girl. It doesn't look like a prom dress to me. The long green gown is my favorite... I don't know who did it, but that is the only dress I would've personally chosen to wear of this selection.
40Prom dresses these days can be shorter and sexier. If "Laguna Beach" has taught me anything, haha. But I would personally wear something more long and elegant for prom and save the short/sexy for homecoming.
41love love love chris's dress!!! i would totally buy it!
42well, first things first. victorya should NOT have won. when asked if she made a dress that her client had asked for, she replied something to the effect of....well , yes, i think that she loves this dress..(turns to girl) ..don't you ?!!! of course the kid loved it. she is on freakin' t.v. knowing she's wearing it to prom and everyone is going to see this on t.v..
43what she isn't remembering is what she had asked for 24 hours earlier, that she DIDN'T GET from victorya.
yes, sweet pea, you were robbed, that victory was yours...fair and square.
now that flying spitting fairy girl is gone you almost hate to see anyone go home...my heart is with chris even though i absolutely love them all. this kid has such chutzpah !
one last thing. don't you ever wonder if heidi and the judges watch the shows when they're on? they would see what we see going on off the runway. just a little food for thought!
