Cashmere Mafia is back tonight for its proper premiere — apparently ABC would prefer to call the episode that aired on Sunday a sneak preview. But is anyone going to be watching? I didn't expect the highly anticipated series to be struggling in the ratings already, but the news after Sunday's episode wasn't good. The show drew about 10.7 million viewers, which might not be so bad if A) it hadn't lost almost half of the audience that tuned in for Desperate Housewives right before it, and B) 2 million people hadn't switched the show off at the halfway point.
Though lots of you weren't really digging the show on first watch, most of you were either instantly hooked or charitably willing to give the show a second chance. Having seen tonight's second episode, I will say I liked it better than the first — though it still didn't come close to my high expectations. I'm not ready to tune out Cashmere just yet, but I am a little bit afraid for its future — after all, if it couldn't do well with a huge episode of Desperate Housewives as its lead-in, how will it perform when its only support comes from Wife Swap and Supernanny?
Are you still game? You can watch a scene from tonight's episode if you read more.

i watched it for the first time last night. i felt these women only cared about being rich and high-powered and not in a good way. unlike the sex and the city women i didn't feel a real comradery between them, and they threw in that "i love you guys" at the end of the episode for good measure... i felt they weren't really down to earth or relatable.... and i'm a nyc professional woman! hopefully they will come down to earth tonight.
1I saw it on Sunday and it did somewhat keep me interested enough to watch again, but this above clip was dull and just went on too long! I'll watch- I guess. Not like there is too much to choose from these days. Luckily, I've got some new books to get through!
2I'm surprised it couldn't do well with 'Desperate Housewives' as its lead-in. I personally think the show is JUST like 'Desperate Housewives,' but the women just have more powerful jobs.
They should've spent more time building up the friendships of the women, especially since they had to have known that it would be compared to 'Sex and the City'. You can't just throw these random women together and expect us to believe they have such a strong bond between them. It was too rushed, but I'll give it a chance because 'Sex and the City's first episode wasn't great either.
3Meh. It is trying SO HARD to be SATC (even the theme music sounds the same) but it doesn't seem to have the heart of the original.
It's hard to tell from just one clip but it seemed pretty forced and superficial to me. And "lesbians are the new babies?" Come ON, that "blank is the new blank" stuff is TIRED.
4I tried watching the first episode but only got through the first half. I'm not interested in getting into a new show anyway.
5I watched it on my Tivo and I'm about to give the season pass a big heave-ho. I thought the dialog was trite and spoke down to the audience. Most dramas (is this a drama?)want you to care about one or all of the characters but this one really doesn't do that. They must be on a budget because it seemed as though they used quite a bit of footage of each of the ladies walking very fast in very high heels. Every time a new scene started, it started with one of them hurriedly walking in 4-5 inch heels. Ugh. I'm giving it one more change and then *delete* and I'll wait for Lipstick Jungle next month.
6I thought the same thing about the music/theme and SATC. I am looking forward to lipstick jungle, though. I like Brooke Shields and ope it does well for her.
7I attempted to watch it online and also gave up halfway through. I just found it mildly annoying, to be honest. Even when SATC wasn't believable it was at least still entertaining and witty. Not so much for this show.
8Does anyone else feels like the dialogue is a bit forced/fake? I doubt high powered NYC women act like this, and this show very much reminds me of Big Shots which I hope they'll put back on the air at least the guys came off sorta goofy to me, it wasn't very intellectual but it was entertaining.
9I agree with all of the above posts. I tried to watch this show last night but gave up after the first commercial break. This show is just trying to capitalize on the success of SATC but fails miserably. Also, the show attempts to use a crazy wardrobe to remind us that these women are unbearably hip...however the clothes only serve as a distraction to the characters/story line while SATC's clothes enhanced characters/story line without being too distracting.
10I feel tat the should have done a 1/2 hour format, that why the speed of the show would be better. The hour kinda killed it and I found some scences to be a drag. I agree dialogue was kinda forced. I think it will keep ppo in tune and wanting more in 1/2 hour format. Thats just my opinion.
11I couldn't even make it through the preview. I think the show is doomed from the start because everyone *will* be comparing it to SATC. We just can't help ourselves!
12i'm going to watch it. i think that sometimes you just need to see more than one episode to be sold.
13It wasn't that good at all and I was so annoyed that the red head even SOUNDED like Samantha...how pathetic!
14I watched Sunday's premiere and I liked Bonnie Somerville's character the best so far because she seems the most down-to-earth woman on the show. She has an outgoing personality, despite being unlucky in love. She is fed up with relationships with men because she has chosen the wrong guys over and over again. I was pysched to see her walk out on her boyfriend, who had just dumped her, with the check for their breakfast! She showed him! Then she meets a woman and she is unsure of the signals that she sends her and the ones she wants to convey to the girl. She consults with a priest, who is her brother,I think, about her sexuality. Pretty wacky but she plays it with charm and humor so that it is difficult not to like her and hope that she finds happiness sometime soon. Somerville was on "Friends" a few years back as Ross' girlfriend, so it is great to see her again on a show. I will give Cashmere Mafia a chance for a few episodes because I think the show has potential.
15I watched it once and won't watch again. The women are beautiful and all great actresses, but the story lines were silly and not worth watching. Maybe Lipstick Jungle will be better?
16That looked so much better than Sunday's show.
17i'll be tuning in.
18i was pretty happy with the show and it doesnt seem too bad
i thought it was great - although definitely seemed to be a combination of Sex and the City and Desperate Housewives, which is probably why I liked it so much. Definitely kept me watching though... and really looking forward to another one tonight!
19I liked the show...Pilots usually are the worst episode of the bunch so I expect it to get much better as well.. Considering there really aren't many more scripted shows on the air anymore this will be a welcomed diversion from all the reality shows on tv because of the strike.
I don't really understand the SATC comparisons. So just because there's 4 women and they have jobs, it's a comparison? Should there have been a group of 6 friends who dress horribly and have no jobs and never eat together because I don't really see that happening either. The show is far from perfect but personally I like these group of women more than the SATC girls. I also think the fact that half of them have families and children give a little depth to the characters that Satc didn't have.
20I didn't find it to be horrible. No worse than Desperate Housewives, which I happen to not like and stopped watching after season 1. I'll tune in for episode #2.
21And at least there's no GD voiceover. I found myself holding my breath during the first few seconds hoping nobody was going to chime in. If they had, I think I would have tuned out.
22I liked it enough to set my DVR to pick it up. I am willing to give it a try. And remember, y'all, the first season of SATC was "rough" around the edges. I have faith!!
23Not as good. SATC is soo good.. As a fellow azn i am supporting Lucy Liu (that is the only reason I am watching this)
24Although the wardrobe is great, there is just no good chemistry. Ah the goodtimes when Carrie use to get high with Samantha. lmao
ahhhhh... now that's the difference between hbo and abc.sad!
25i'll give it a second chance but found lipstick jungle a lot more watchable then this.
26The clip wasn't so great...
27I really like the show! I'm going to keep watching...
