It feels like it was ages ago that we left Lynette unleashing her primal scream at a nearly destroyed Wisteria Lane, and by last night I was more than ready to find out what happened with everyone on Desperate Housewives. Maybe it's the steady decrease in new episodes on TV, but I was downright giddy to watch this week's DH, and I'm glad it didn't disappoint. Then again, because there is so little by way of new TV it's possible my standards were lowered. At any rate, I was happy to see Bree, Lynette, Susan, Gaby and the rest of the gang in my living room once more.

To check out some of my thoughts on this post-hurricane episode — complete with spoilers — read more.
Susan — I enjoyed Susan this week simply because she pretty much only existed to be a part of Bree's storyline, which I loved. When she takes in Bree and Orson after their home is mangled in the storm, she worries that Bree will drive her crazy. Instead, she finds Bree to have a calming, normalizing effect on Susan's life. I think this new angle to the women's friendship is very sweet and endearing.
Bree — Hands down, Bree Hodge has become my favorite character on DH, and one of my favorite characters currently on TV. After this episode I found myself wishing DH would become The Bree and Orson Hour, with characters like Susan merely showing up peripherally to highlight various dimensions of Bree's and Orson's lives (as was the case this week). From Bree's comment about finding a new boyfriend who's not so good at "gay math" for her contractor, to fixing up her much younger son with the contractor ("You can raise a man's hopes without satisfying him! I've done it all my life!"), hers is by far the most enjoyable storyline. I love how she and Orson struggle to be okay with the homosexual men in their lives (Orson: "Think of the fun you two could have in a shoe store!"), trying so hard to understand them yet still responding to things like Susan's excited "I could kiss you!" with "Not funny."
Gaby — At Victor's funeral, Gaby learns that all the loads of money she assumed to be inheriting was actually in Milton's name, and she would receive nothing. Banished from the funeral by Milton, she visits Carlos in the hospital before heading over to see Al about Carlos' offshore account. Unfortunately, poor Al was tragically killed, and his wife shredded any document pertaining to offshore accounts. Carlos and Gaby seem (temporarily) okay with things, though, professing their love for one another "for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health." When Gaby leaves Carlos' room, however, he and the doctor discuss Carlos' new blindness.
Lynette — Lynette's family is recovered first thing in the episode, which is nice, but seems a little neat and tidy. I guess they wanted to resolve that mystery right quick. Unfortunately, Ida was not so lucky, and Lynette and Mrs. McCluskey set about going through Ida's things. When Lynette's son Parker reveals that Ida saved his life during the tornado, Lynette feels that she owes Ida a debt. Soon Ida's niece and nephew arrive to retrieve Ida's ashes as well as some of her more valuable things. Yet the terrible twosome won't honor Ida's wishes by scattering her ashes on the baseball field where she used to play. So Lynette and Mrs. McCluskey break into the baseball field and scatter the ashes themselves. I liked this storyline as well, and I definitely became a little misty during Mrs. McCluskey's funereal poem recitation.
Edie — She held Mrs. McCluskey's hand after everyone heard that Ida didn't make it. End of story.
Katherine — This storyline bores me to tears. I just can't seem to bring myself to care about what Katherine did that Adam and Dylan now know about. Just. Don't. Care.
Here's what I do care about, however: This is the last episode of Desperate Housewives until the writers strike is over. So chat it up! What did you think of this week's DH?

i really liked the susan/bree storyline too. that was the best part of the show - everything else was easy to predict. i too really could careless about the dylan/katherine/adam storyline...i really don't see how they are relevant to Wisteria Lane. i didn't realize this was the last episode until the strike was over! bummer..i wish that the writers and studios would hurry up and come to an agreement..if anything to bring back good shows!!
1I have to say, this episode felt a little different, mainly because they didn't try to focus on EVERYBODY at once. While I'm relieved to know the Scavos are okay... I'm sad that this is the last episode for now.
2i LOVE bree and orson. Best part had to be orson saying "he's here, he's queer and we're used to it!"
3The whole carlos going blind thing is a little too daytime soap for my taste
Great recap, Buzz. Like you, I really enjoyed the Bree/Susan storyline the best. I loved the scenes with Lynette and Mrs. McCluskey as well; and, yes, I teared up during the poem too. Katherine has become an annoyance, but now that we've come this far with her, I would like to know what Dylan and Adam know. The speculation will continue now until the strike is resolved. Sigh.
4Bree and Orson had the best lines. That family is just crazy! I think the comedic writing was great with them and Susan's lines were more interesting too. I wish that the strike would be over soon too! This was a great ep to answer the questions about the aftermath from the tornado, but I want to see the girls back in action soon.
5Oh my God, I love Bree and Orson. Bree reminds me of my mom sometimes.
Orson's line
about "Andrew has this mesh tank top" KILLED me. They work so well together and I wish Andrew was on more often!
I also love Mrs. McCluskey. That whole storyline was also great.
Gabby's gonna leave Carlos. I'm hoping she doesn't, but I can't see her with him once he tells her he's blind. I also feel bad because he (they?) are outta cash, which sucks.
The Katherine/Dylan/Adam storyline is also boring me to tears. Each week we get to see Katherine get all teary-eyed (real or fake tears) and then...NOTHING. The only thing I'm sad about is Nathan Fillion leaving DH.
6I thought it was awful. To me, it was really obviously written in haste to fit in one more episode before the strike hit (or to finish one last episode sans writers).
7I've liked watching Nathan Fillion in the past and I really wanted to love him in this show but just like you said, not to his fault but that story line just makes me want to hit the fast forward button on my TiVo. Too bad.
8... and by "that story line" I mean the Katherine, Adam and Dylan story line.
9Bree and Orson were hysterical. All of the gay stereotypes ("In the gay world, 3 doesn't go into 9") had me laughing so hard! I agree too..Susan seemed like a much better character when she was in the background, not the main focus of the storyline.
I wonder if the Gabby and Carlos situation will make her less materialistic now that they're broke and she's blind. Although that might make her a less interesting character...which would kinda suck.
10shes not blind he is.
11I was really loving Bree this week... I loved the whole Pimping Andrew out to the contractor bit lol I was happy to find out the Tom and the kids were ok, too bad about poor Ida but oh well. I am really dying to know what Katherine did that is so horrible I mean they have been playing her whole storyline up so I just want it out in the open already! Sucks that we have to wait what seems like forever for a new episode :-\
12OMG- I was so excited to see it on last night! wahoo! Sad to hear its on hold again...I love Bree, sad to hear Carlos is blind
and Gabby doesnt know it yet. Victor's dad is a loser, i can't stand him. Good riddence. So glad
Lynette went out of the way for Ida to spread her ashes for saving her family- such a good story. Yeah, and what up with Katherine? It seems to scare her whole family soo much, I am really
wondering what it is. They def. are stringing that one along like mad.
13I also love Bree and Orson the most... and would prefer if Susan and Edie were ALWAYS side characters... I liked Lynette in other seasons, but she's seeming somehow just whiny and no longer a strong capable woman with things going wrong all the time... I think the timing of the episodes killed the Katherine intrigue, since they still have really have given us NOTHING to go on. At least a guy in the basement made you wonder WHY. Move along, be deceptive, to the DH thing, but this plot is dying... none of the actors even seem to know what is going on since they don't really even seem to be able to play any angles or nuances... I am so glad she turned down the part of Bree (she was 1st choice I think) and that Marcia Cross was in since, again, LOVE HER!
14They need to kill Edie off. Am so glad Lynette and Mrs. M are becoming friends. Lynette's learning that people matter outside of what they can do for her and her kids. Bree. Awesome. Susan is finally starting to show some strain due to Mike's rehab and I like it. Her character hasn't been too serious up till now.
15I was really excited for nothing, this show was kind of boring and recoveries happened too fast.
16It was fun, I actually missed DH =) For some reason this show gives me the warm fuzzies.
17im was so glad wen the scarvos were all okay..
18but omg poor carlos.. do u think he will ever get his sight back!?? i hope he does.. nd i hope gabby stays with him!!!
I love this episode; i missed watching dh. I adore the part of the show when lynette and her neighbor went to scatter the ashes; too funny yet emotional how they really cared about her and were grateful to her. I also thought it was cute how Susan ruined the set-up Bree was trying create, all because Susan loved being taken care of during her time of need and really didn't want Bree to leave her.
19I LOVE ANDREW!!!! hahaha soo funny
20OK whats the deal with "Kanagawa" it kind of weirds me out because I live in Japan and saw this in re-runs and I live in Kanagawa Prefecture and can't find any correlation!!! It's driving me nuts!
