After a three-week break, Project Runway returned with a very sweet episode. Literally. The designers were given the challenge to create an outfit using materials found at the Hershey's store in Times Square. Some were elated at the prospect (Elisa: "It's chocolate!"), while others (ahem, Christian) were less than thrilled: "I was like great, we have to make sh!t out of candy." Heh.

Personally, I was as thrilled as Elisa was. As I was saying, I'm a sucker for any episode that employs unusual elements in lieu of fabric. Groceries, plant life, recyclable material — love it, love it, love it. But I think that as the seasons progress, the designers become more aware of how to avoid disasters when working with nonfabric (who could forget how Austin Scarlett's corn-stalk dress wilted overnight?). And, therefore, I think the designers take fewer risks. One designer, however, did take a big chance, and the result was lovely.
To find out who created the most inventive and risky dress and to read more about last night's ProjRun (as well as see a gallery of all the looks), read more.
Before we get to the looks of the evening, I must first mention some of my favorite moments of the episode. Firstly, Christian continues to be an ego maniac, which prompts Kevin to exclaim his dismay: "Every interview, I must mention I'm going to off (or was it "auf"?) him, and you'll never see him again." Ha! I hope Kevin keeps his word; that would certainly be a better recurring segment than the Ricky cry count. Speaking of, we seem to have survived Ricky's second episode without crying (fret not, the tears return — does having them in the preview for next week count?). He did, however, continue his horrible hat parade, and I honestly don't know which is worse.
On to the looks. Jillian took the biggest risk of the evening by incorporating Twizzlers. She was rightfully worried that her dress might fall apart on the runway (and even had her model help her stitch some backup Twizzlers on the skirt), but miraculously, it stayed together and looked great. As Michael Kors said, it was "deliciously chic." The two other designers whom the judges loved were Chris and Rami. Chris created what was, for him, a very understated tube dress, and Rami won the challenge with his charming red halter.
The bottom three were Victorya, Sweet P, and Elisa. Victorya's ruffle dress confused the judges, and Sweet P's strapless dress bored them. But, it was Elisa's "sad, brown dress" that led to her elimination. I should have known that she would be out with all of the focus on her during the episode. Her back story (a serious car injury that prevented her from pursuing a fashion dream in London was the reason she wanted to do Project Runway) really made me like her more. And even though I questioned her taste level often, she did create some beautiful pieces. Oh well, Heidi still gave her the German good-bye.
I think Sweet P is next to go. What did you all think of last night's episode? Any predictions for next week?

loved last night's episode!!! although, what was with heidi's makeup in the beginning of the show? she looked like a clown! i thought the top 3 was dead on. i thought jillian was gonna win just because of the difficulty of working with candy. but, i loved rami's and would buy chris's dress. christian's sh!t talking is gonna bite him in the arse later in the show, i can feel it.
1Candy and making clothes are two of my favorite things!! I absolutely loved last night's episode, although I would have liked it if more designers had actually used candy like Jillian did.
2i love elisa's spirit... but i'm not going to be sad to see her odd designs go. i'm picking rami as the winner and i'm hoping that christian is the next to go (although I agree that it's probably sweet pea... it's such a shame that christian is legitimately talented becuase i'm with kevin... he needs to go...)
3yeah, i agree with buzz, they made it so obvoius that she was going to be "aufed" with all the screen time she got.
4Christian is so hilarious -- a combination of Austin and Vincent, but slightly less self-deluded. This has already been a phenomenal season. I think I'm rooting for Kit, but I'm not sure.
5Elisa doesn't know how to edit edit edit. that dress could've done without the ruffles at the top AND those sleeves on the side. it's great to be innovative and whimsical but c'mon..she really was niether but a disaster.
i loved romi's and chris march's. jillians was very pretty, but i'm so surprised the judges didn't comment on how loose fitted it was on her model at the breast area.
6I thought the episode was a nice commercial for Hershey's. As much as I love Project Runway & Top Chef, the product placement / commericals have got to go!
7Cristian with all his mumbo-jumbo talk and his dress was B-O-R-I-N-G and too safe!! I was waiting for his bobble-head to create something tasteful and over the top--guess not.
I love Sweet P but I'm afraid she's next!!!
8I thoroughly enjoyed the return of Project Runway!!! I will say that Christian maybe an ego-maniac, but he creates great pieces. The two that I want to see go are "cry-baby" Ricky and "always surprised" Sweet Pea. If people are counting Ricky's tears, we need a count for how many times Sweet Pea has been "surprised".
9OMG I'm a fan! Love the different projects and challenges. Christian bugs the Sh*t out of me - I can't stand him. And SweetP is a close 2nd - how is it she's ALWAYS surprised when she's called on?! I mean come on....Heidi is going down the runway and she'll get to you eventually and you KNOW it's coming! I continually like Jillian's and Romi's designs. Kevin is good too and I'm really glad Steve is gone - he had NO eye - his last dress was HIDEOUS. Yes he did have a large ugly wedding dress to work with but I agree with the judges he had alot to work with - great potential wasted.
10I agree with mannylove, the product placement in these shows gets out of control sometimes! I was kinda looking forward to Chris making a craaaaazy food costume, but the understated dress was so pretty! Also, Elisa getting aufed got rid of one of my pet peeve designers, Paris Hilton...I mean, Christian...is next!
11i think i'm in the minority.....i LOVE christian!! he makes me laugh with his crazy talk, and while he does talk a lot of smack, he also designs pretty good outfits. meanwhile, ricky the mesh hat wearing crybaby continually makes me want to kick him in the face....suck it up!! and "tranny mess" to describe the work room = genius.
12I really liked Chris' dress, and especially for it to come from Chris, Mr. Over the Top!! I think Jillian should have won for degree of difficulty. I think Christian is about the only thing that gives this season zing, so keep it coming!! I agree, buzz, I think Sweet P's days are numbered. She gets so frazzled!
13I love Christian too!
I get that he's full of sh*it talk and one day that will bite him in the ass, but it annoys me when people overlook the actual talent based on personality. He's damn talented. He's not likeable, but definitely talented.
I think Christian, Rami and Jillain so far.
14I thought this was one challenge where so many of them did well. Really it was just the bottom two that were hideous. I probably liked Chris's the best and thought it was the most wearable. I understand why Rami won, though.
15Unless Sweet P pulls off something really fantastic next week, she is definitely the next to go. Victorya's I think was the worst of the night, though, even worse than Elisa. I really like everyone on the show either for their personality, talent or both. But right now, Victorya is the only one I'm not rooting for.
My picks for top 3 right now: Romi, Kit, Christian
16Oh I am so Uber happy this show is back! I could have sworn that I smelled all that chocolate they were working with; I don’t know how Christian could have unwrapped all those peanut butter cups and not have walked around with chocolate mouth all day. I personally love him, and for those who say he has a big ego, don’t get him. I am glad Elise is gone, she was loony toons and her saying that dress was some weird macabre Hansel and Gretel inspiration proved it beyond a reasonable doubt, yes the witches house was made of candy but even she wouldn’t have been caught dead in the oven wearing those giant silver floaties. Sweet pea is close to getting the Auf Wiedersehen, I felt like she was going to Wee her pants from indecision and or nervousness.
17i do agree, christian is very talented. i def see him in the top three.
anybody else want to feed some of those models some of the peanut butter cups he threw away? =)
18has sweet p ever known what she was doing in a challenge YET??? she's always so confused and frazzled and never knows what the heck shes creating! shes a mess get her out of there!
19LOVED last night's episode. of course Christian is an ego-maniac but Zac Posen and Micheal Kors aren't exactly humble either, so you know what? I don't care! He's so funny and fabulous and extremely talented. Do you really think fashion designers are not ego-maniacs? please!
i really loved Elisa's spirit but she just kept making so-so garments and not at the level of Christian and Rami. I'm sorry to see her go but it was her time.
Sweet P, you're next!
My pick for top three: Rami, Christian and Kit.
20Last nights ep was fab and totally made up for the holiday season reruns! I think the designers did an awesome job of making either fanciful or wearable garments out of well, really unwearable materials. While I did like Rami and Jillians looks my faves were actually the ones that fell in the middle of the pack. Christians Resse cup paper dress was fab.... I love Resse cups and Christian so that one was pretty much right up my alley. Fierce! I also adored Kevin's skirt/jacket combo. I thought it looked really rich and well made despite the cheap materials.... I would so wear that. And I actually liked Ricky's silver bell dress, it wasn't anything anyone could or should wear, but I thought it was executed awesome, did you see the fit on the top.... amazing.
Can't wait for next week.
21good episode. with the exception of elisa, i thought everyone's designs were great. yes, sweet p is next to go. i have a bad impression of ricky's skills from early episodes but he seems to be doing a lot better.
and my favorites for the season are kevin and rami, i think it will be them and jillian in the final three. kevin doesn't get the credit he deserves! he needs to win a challenge.
22My sister and I both loved the skirt of Sweet P's first outfit - it was definitely more exciting than her end result.
It would have been interesting to hear Christian's reaction on not being in the top 3 - given his comments about the other dresses the whole episode.
23I loved, LOVED Christian's peanut butter cup dress! So pretty...and textured. I agree he's got an ego bigger than his body, but..oh well..he's got the talent to back it up most of the time
I also loved Chris' outfit...and I laughed out loud when he said something about "not making a parade float garment"!
And I don't like Victorya. Seems like she's got the ego but not the talent to back it up....I love how she says she'd wear her garment and Michael Kors didn't believe her!
24Rami and Jillian are the ones to reckon with. They are both very talented and soft spoken(thank God) Christian is loud enough for everybody
25oh and Kit as well, she's another force to reckon with
26The top designers in my opinion:
Rami, Jillian, Christian, Kit
The ones that are getting auf'ed soon:
Ricky (crybaby), Chris, Sweet P.
Don't you think that Christian looks like a smurf/fairy/elf?
27I felt this was one of the better episodes in terms of creative value. So many of the designers had great pieces this time. It was a huge improvement from what was created in the skinny challenge and the team challenge with the outdated styles.
I have to say, I kind of love Christian. He was super annoying at first, but he's growing on me. I don't mind his egomaniacial behaviour so much since he's actually a good designer. He's fun to watch because he's so ridiculous. Although no one will ever live up to Austin Scarlett for me...
I was sad to see Elisa go. I enjoyed her kookiness. Sweet P seems like a nice person, but I'm never thrilled with her designs.
I wish though, that Victorya had been sent home. Did you see the way she rolled her eyes when Michael Kors was critiquing her work? I don't care if he is a total queen sometimes, he is still a top designer in the industry and and you should show a little respect. That, combine with her awful boob-clamping-made-for-dolls-and-or-12-year-olds designs should send her home.
28how fun was this episode. i was just at the store a couple weeks ago and was thinking i didn't get enough chocolate
29i really thought jillian should have, and would have won. i also really liked christian's dress and i'm suprised he wasn't in the top group. i'm such a christian fan - i think he's hilarious!! there's no one i dislike (so far) this season, so i'm sad now to see anyone go
30How is Christian not a character played by Chris Kattan? He's just too out there to be real sometime. He's hilarious though!
31I missed last nights episode on tv and just watched it online... where is Christian at the end? he did not stand up to be judged with the others... any ideas??????
32I was sad to see Elisa go- she brought interesting banter to the show.
I enjoy Christian, he's hilarious.
Jillian had the least personality of any of them. Boooooring. I want her auf'd. So dull.
I love Kevin! I want him in top three.
33christian is very talented but is one of the most annoying ppl i have ever had the displeasure of seeing
i love kevin, rami, and jillian. i hope one of them wins
34LOL ashlyn!!
35i love kevin and definitely agree that he doesn't get enough credit! i'd love to see him, jillian, and rami in the top three.
36I LOVE Christian. He talks loads of sh!t but he backs it up! Makes for great fashion and great TV. I would hire him to make me an entire wardrobe if I could afford it. I couldn't wait for Elisa to be gone. She's a loon, and her clothes are weird. Bottom line.
Rami's outfit was lost on me. Sorry. Kit has yet to impress me, it's as if she pulls half patterns out of a bag and then uses them to make one complete garment...
Chris' and Kevin's outfits were dead on for me. I would wear the hell out of Kevin's... and for once I agree with MK - Chris' taste level was extremely elevated and he was able to edit his insanity down to a tasteful, well constructed garment that fufilled the requirements.
37I think the reason Jillian did not win this one was because the fit was a little poor, though the judges didn't comment on it in the show. Rami's fit beautifully.
38My faves are Jillian, Christian, and Kit. Christian has got enough personality (and talent) to pull almost anything off, Kit has a rockin sense of style, and Jillian (who shares my name!) is just so classy and normally fits things to beautifully and has phenomenal taste.
