I fully believe that Keira Knightley is well-suited for period pieces, and I certainly have faith in her ability to play a controversial historical figure, as is the focus of period drama The Duchess. Yet I wonder if Keira herself will be enough to make this movie better than just your average ho-hum period piece, as today's teaser trailer doesn't seem to stretch much beyond ordinary stuff.
This new teaser trailer for the fall 2008 release is itself rather average. There's a big reveal of the Duchess of Devonshire (Knightley), some alluding to bearing an heir and then an impassioned line from the Duchess about not wanting to battle her heart, before the brief glimpse of a love scene. So far, it's no Atonement, but I'll be curious to watch a full-length trailer when that comes out.

hmmm, could be good!
it has potential. whatever that means. lol.
she always plays those antique/Victorian fashioned clothing.
I don't like that girl she annoys me and I don't like those "era" films she always does.
She is always doing Period films. The only one I can think of that was set in modern times was The Jacket (and The Hole but that never really came out here).
it could be good
looks good to me - I love period pieces.
Love Keira, love period pieces, just wish that for once she'd stretch her limits and try to do something different than get into an era-inspired dress.
I think she has so much potential--and she gets great results, don't get me wrong--but I'd like to see her in a big movie (with her as the lead female--not like "Love Actually") with a modern day setting. And she could keep doing the period pieces too, there's nothing horrible about that
i love keira's period pieces, but i wonder if she's even capable of carrying a movie with a present-day setting.
Bend It Like Beckham was pretty good
i absolutely adore keira - but aside from a handful of movies, all she does are period peices. she's well suited for them, and she does well getting into character - but i wonder sometimes who's decision it is to do that - does she love those or are they what's offered most?
There's some potential here, but it's too early to tell, I think. I'll still check it out. I like period pieces and Keira, so unless this movie is awful I'll probably like it, too.
You know, I think I prefer her as Marie Antoinette instead of Spider girl Kirsten Dunst. Love those costumes and I love period pieces when done right.
I saw that movie The Hole, it was kind of creepy. FashionParty, I can't believe you said that I loved Kirsten Dunst as Marie Antoinette.
its another romantic-sappy movie. dont get me wrong i love romantic movies, but so far i am hoping that there's more structure to the story, than just looking for your love or what ever the movie is trying to go for. it's still fresh so i am hoping for the best.
Actually, it doesn't look that romantic to me. It looks like there is romance in the movie, but that the romance is the cause of something much more sinister. More like a suspenseful drama with romance being the tragic flaw of the heroine. Not very sappy if you ask me, kinda scary though.
Sorry pargie, I meant that I prefer Kiera playing a Marie Antoinette character instead of Kirsten Dunst.
Interesting.
Meh.. looks like nothing special.
domino was cool...
Eh, I might watch it because I love Ralph Fiennes, but I always feel like Keira Knightley's trademark acting move is to emote through her teeth.
I'm looking forward to see this movie! Love Keira Knightley.
