Rather than sit through that newfangled computer-generated Alvin and the Chipmunks movie when it comes out today, let's look back at some old-school Alvin and the Chipmunks and share some memories.
The first video after the jump is an advertisement for Chipmunk Punk, an album full of the Chipmunks covering various songs from Tom Petty's "Refugee" to The Knack's "Good Girls Don't." It's a minute and a half of high-pitched hilarity. In the second video, get in the holiday spirit with the Chipmunk Christmas Song. Those modern-day hooligans in theaters today don't have anything on the old originals, so to check out the videos, read more.

The Christmas Song by The Chipmunks is one of my fave holiday songs EVER! This is the first
time I have seen the images that go along with it. It makes so much more sense now!
1Oh, how I miss the Chipmunks! When I was little, I had a life-sized (at the time) Simon doll that had a string you could pull and he'd say a bunch of different things. He was my favorite because he was the smart one
2As Buzz knows, I love these albums in a 100% non-ironic way. I also love the Chipmunk Punk cover, which makes the Chippies look more like vagrants than Joe Strummer.
3I have these, as well as Chipmunk Rock and Urban Chipmunk (country) on vinyl at home. I nearly flipped when I found an old turntable in the house, and the first thing I played was Chipmunk Rock.
I can't go see the movie. The Chipmunks were boy-sized, not chipmunk-sized. It's just a matter of principle.
4there used to be this hilarious website that had the whole "true story" of the Chipmunks written in E! True Hollywood Story style. I tried to find it but now with the plethora of the new movie sites, it's proven difficult. If anyone knows what I'm talking about or wants to dig into the workings of the web, go for it!
5The Chipmunks Christmas album has always been one of my favorites. I had it as a kid!
6how i love them soo!
7I so had the Chipmunk Christmas on record. It was my favorite..and now I totally want Chipmunk Punk. How awesome is that?! haha
8Oh, the memories...haha his voice hahahah!
9yes now the christmas song does makes sense more now that i have seen the video for it.
10I used to love that Chipmunks movie where they race the Chippettes around the world looking for treasure. My niece rented it the other day, and I was surprised to know it's still in rotation (on DVD, no less) at the video store.
The commercials for the new movie hurt me. It looks so awful. I'm not OK with Alvin doing the prototypical "bow-chicka-wow-wow" music from porn in reference to Dave going on a date. Seriously; what the hell?
11I wish they would just release the old cartoon on DVD instead of making a crappy movie. The Chipmunks were my favorite growing up. I had an Alvin doll that talked.
12I just saw this movie and I loved it! I too was very upset at the way that the movie was presented in the commercials, and was going to protest this sacrilege by not going, but a friend recommended that I see it. Some parts were slightly cringe-worthy but they did keep the main part: the heart and goodness of those adorable chipmunks. I remember seeing the TV show when I was a kid, and I hope it does get released on DVD soon. I was(and still am) a huge Theodore fan!
