Atonement came up big this morning when the nominations for the Golden Globe Awards were announced in Hollywood. The film snagged seven nominations — three for the acting of stars James McAvoy,
Keira Knightley, and Saoirse Ronan and four more for Best Dramatic Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Score.
Also getting a lot of attention from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association: Charlie Wilson's War, which snagged five nominations, including Best Musical or Comedy and acting nominations for Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, and Philip Seymour Hoffman. Sweeney Todd, Michael Clayton, and No Country for Old Men were close behind with four nominations each.
In the television categories, cable series got a lot of love, including new shows Californication, Damages, and Mad Men.

John Travolta really got nominated for Hairspray, and Gone Baby Gone got only one nomination? The Hollywood Foreign Press is crazy!

2And YAY Pushing Daisies got THREE noms! I would have loved to see Chi McBride or Kristin Chenoweth get some recognition, but that'll have to come at the Emmys.

5Some interesting choices. So pleased to see Man Men for Best TV Drama. What a wonderful show. Happy for Pushing Daisies (and the cast) and for Glenn Close and Donald Sutherland. They both are perfect in their roles in Damages and Dirty Sexy Money. But, John Travolta? Gotta take the good--and the bad--I guess.

7I feel awful for emile hirsch. i'm shocked and disappointed he didn't get a nomination. also, a lot of you will disagree, but i though across the universe was the worst movie i saw this year.

9I'm not a huge fan of the whole "Hollywood Foreign Press", so these nominations are a little jacked. But, I like that Ryan Gosling and James McAvoy Lee Pace and Anna Friel are on this list. I'm not even going to mention how ignored "Scrubs" is (and always has been) and Heigl for GA? Fo' real? Come on, people.
10I think it's a travesty that Grey's Anatomy was nominated for Best Drama, but Dexter wasn't. Although I am really pleased with Michael C. Halls' nomination. He's phenomenal in that role.

13Way to narrow down the dramatic picture category, Foreign Press Association! How odd. I mean, the nominations remind me that this was a great year for movies, but couldn't they have winnowed it down to five? I am actually pretty happy with most of the movie nominees for the first time in many years.
14dave annable did such a great job as justin on brothers & sisters this year...he should've been nominated!
15I'm really surprised at the lack of love for Into the Wild...both with actor and film. I thought that and No Country were the two best films I've seen so far this year.
16I'm happy about all the nominations for "Atonement" and I'm really really happy Ruth Wilson got nominated, as well. She was fantastic as Jane Eyre. Talking of which, the list isn't correct, they definitely said her nomination was for "Jane Eyre", not "Capturing Mary".

26Penn deserved nominations. This was the best movie of the year and it only got nominated for the music? I'm also very shocked to see that John C. Reilly get nominated although I'm a fan. Keri Russel and Christian Bale also got snubbed.
I think it's a real real crime that neither Romola Garai or Vanessa Redgrave were nominated (for playing the second and third versions of Brione) in ATONEMENT.
BUT -- I love Philip Seymour Hoffman's nomination for SAVAGES.
