Dexter and Weeds on network TV? It could happen if the writers' strike goes on long enough, according to CBS president Les Moonves.
Moonves said Tuesday that CBS could bring some Showtime shows onto the network to round out the midseason schedule during the strike. Dexter would be the first show to get a CBS tryout because it would fit well with the network's many other crime series, Moonves said. Other Showtime series, including Weeds and The Tudors, are also up for consideration.
On the one hand, this could turn into a positive side of the strike: more people getting to see quality Showtime shows without waiting for the DVD or mooching off a friend who subscribes to the channel. But on the other hand, I can hardly imagine how heavily something like Weeds would have to be edited for broadcast in a primetime network slot. It worked OK when Sex and the City moved to TBS, I suppose, but at least that was still cable.
Would a watered-down network version of Weeds or Dexter be worth watching? I suppose I'd prefer that to yet another ridiculous reality show, even if the shows weren't up to their original standard once they were edited. What about you?

I'll stick to Netflixing them. I love what I've seen so far of Weeds and I can't wait to get around to Dexter, but I prefer to see them in their original state. It's certainly a good idea though, and I prefer it to the reality crap.

Let's hope CBS will keep us entertained in the meantime. Bring on Dexter!

7I was definitely prefer Dexter or Weeds to almost anything currently on CBS, watered down or not. Of course, I think cable TV killed Arrested Development, but as long as these shows stuck to Showtime, too, it would be great for those of us who don't have premium cable to catch a glimpse of some truly great television!

9I've never seen any of these shows, I've only heard about them. I would watch them just because it would be better than the WB's mom and daughter beauty pagents.

11I LOVE DEXTER!!!! The show wouldn't be AS awesome on regular TV but I think the point would get across and some of the rad-ness. I don't watch Weeds, so I can't really comment on that, but I'm addicted to Dexter, I'm so freaked out about the coming up finale. UGH

13If Weeds is edited to make it appropriate for CBS I think there would be about 5 minutes left. Especially this season. Not seeing a point.
14I watch and love both Weeds and Dexter and I just don't know how they'd translate them to network TV.
Dexter has become my favorite show and one of the best on television right now, but I've always felt that a lot of people would be turned off by it and that's why it works well on on a channel like Showtime. I don't know how many people would be willing to watch Dexter, even in an edited form (which I think would make it lose a lot of its shock factor and appeal).
There's a reason shows like this aren't available on network TV - so they can be more free in terms of what they show.
15showtime should really spend more time taking care of their shows. today 2 new episodes of dexter leaked on p2p network. just saw them. i saw the finale! i know what happens... and i think it's kinda upsetting, that they let things like this happen. this never happened to LOST or Heroes or any other show. But this summet there was a preair first episode of dexter, and 4 preair episodes of weeds available.

20If you are sympathetic to the Writer's that are on strike, then don't be duped into watching scab written shows. If the network is hurting enough to go to a cable provider to get programming then it's just a matter of time before they deal out the pressure to the producers to deal in good faith at the bargaining table with the writers.
We all know that here in the United States that the standards and practices would never let Dexter or weeds fly on network television.
So why on God's earth would you want to even think about watching such a watered down edited to the max version of either? Be-sides for the fact that they are written by scabs and the Producers pray that you will indeed watch the crappy editing or script rewrites, helping break the writers backs.
Go to the library and get movies that have already been out, that you have not seen, or just turn off the Television and read a book to yourself or your child.
This is The United States, United we Stand, Everyone gets a piece of the pie not just a few.
