This week's episode of Desperate Housewives is a doozy. As promised, a tornado hits Wisteria Lane, forcing together odd combinations of people and generally wreaking havoc in ways that are shown via laughable animation. All the little arguments and quibbles between the characters ultimately seem quite small "in comparison to the storm." All in all, I really liked this episode, though the ending was a dreadful way to leave things for the hiatus.

Susan — Wow, did this storyline make me uncomfortable. However, finally Susan has something real and intriguing going on in her life instead of just falling out of windows naked or whatever stupid antics she always seems to be doing. When she takes away Mike's pills, he becomes agitated and temperamental, eventually causing Susan to fall down the stairs. At the hospital he attacks one of the hospital employees and is handcuffed to a chair. Susan gives him an ultimatum: go to rehab, or she takes the baby and leaves him. "You win," Mike finally says.
Bree — Basically Bree's storyline this week exists to reveal more information about Katherine. I love that Bree takes Sylvia in for tea after she sees the spitty interaction between Sylvia and Katherine. Later Katherine accuses Bree of just wanting the dirt on the Chicago thing (well, yeah, don't we all?) and Bree denies it, saying innocently "I can't help having a sympathetic face!"
Gaby — "Carlos, if you are taking me someplace where I don't need a boa, I don't want to go!" I love Gaby and all her selfish greediness. In an absurd twist, Edie gets her grubby hands on the Cayman Islands documents, and Gaby fights her for them. They are soon swept up in the tornado and the two women are forced to teeter-run in their ridiculously high heels to Edie's crawl space to wait out the storm, hold each other, and confess things. Meanwhile, Victor shows up at Gaby's house (which made me jump a mile), intending to shoot Carlos. After a brawl outside, a very well-aimed piece of fence plunges through Victor's heart. Another piece of debris knocks Carlos unconscious.
Lynette — This story bugged me. As cranky as Mrs. McCluskey can be sometimes, it seems ridiculous that she would choose a tornado as the time to harp on what a bad friend Lynette is. Everything seems unnecessary in this plotline, from Mrs. McCluskey's severe reluctance to let a family into her basement to the whole cat thing. And in the end, with that primal scream that just made my skin crawl, we are left with Lynette frantically looking for her family on a street full of rubble.
Edie — Yet again we're supposed to feel a twinge of sympathy for Edie, despite all the outrageously hateful things she's done, but I'm afraid I'm all out of love for this character. She's extraneous at this point.
Katherine — Finally! We find out "what happened in Chicago." Katherine's husband Adam was accused of sexual assault when he refused to respond to his patient Sylvia's advances. The completely deluded and annoying Sylvia keeps showing up in their lives, insisting that they're in love. Side note: Did anyone else giggle a little when Sylvia was sucked out the door by the tornado? Anyway, Katherine, operating under the belief that Sylvia is merely a lunatic making up fantasies, finds out through Bree that the woman really did have an affair with Adam. I felt truly sorry for Katherine in that moment. Also, how uncomfortable must it have been in that closet when the truth came out? Awk-ward!
Wow, this episode is full of meaty things to tide us over until the show hopefully returns in the spring when (if?) the writers strike ends. What did you think of this final episode of DH?

I enjoyed the episode, too dramatic though.
why did lynette scream in the end? was she looking at her destroyed house or was she looking for the rest of her family?
1I didn't like the Lynette story line either. It's like come on, cut the girl so slack. She just got over cancer, now her family has to go and disappear?! Plus I really liked Tom's character.
2It wasn't her house - it was McClusky's. She was screaming because her entire family was in the basement and the house was a pile of sticks.. so, it's her families lives that she's concerned about.
3Also - I think someone else is going to find the instructions to access Carlos' money. The man who dropped off the papers made a point to say that he had completely nothing to do with it anymore.
One more thing that is striking me as weird - was Bree not concerned about her son - where was he? And also Julie.. where was she? And Katherine's daughter? They didn't even seem worried that they weren't there..
4I didn't see why Lynette got separated from the family. I mean, I know she took the cat and started arguing with Mrs. McCluskey, but where did they hide? I got confused. And yes, the scream was a little much. I thought Slyvia getting sucked out by the tornado was hilarious, even if it wasn't meant to be.
5So OK then it was Lynette's house where her and Mrs McCluskey were in the bath tub with the mattress over their heads??
6lindsb- dylan and julie were on a class trip katherine was on the phone with dylan telling her not to worry and that she would look out for susan.
7Katherine's daughter and Julie were on a class trip and not around.
Lynette followed Mrs. McClusckey out after the cat and they couldn't get back to her house,so it looked like they actually went to Lynette's house and hid in the tub with a mattress over them.
8Her family should have just stayed in their own home apparently.
This is an awful way to leave us hanging- for how long??
The last scene was very confusing and I was thinking that Lynette had been in McCluskey's house after they found the cat. Why would her family be without her? I hope that the writers can put a stellar episode for the next one. The cliffhanger felt an season finale!
9I have to admit, I was happy to see Victor go. I felt his character was such a useless addition to the show. I feel the same about Edie-I am done with her one dimensional BS.
When Lynette came out of her house and saw Mrs. McKlusky's home demolished, my stomach dropped! And that scream... Felicity Huffman is one hell of an actress. I can't wait to see what happens, I hope all ends well. I have a thing for Tom!
10Ooh! Thanks Lacey! I didn't hear that part I guess!
11Ugh, I hated the Lynette storyline. I'm allergic to cats myself, so it infuriated me that Mrs. McClucksy would insist the cat remain downstairs. I also am sick of Lynette's screams and freakouts and general life-changing problems. Getting shot, getting cancer, now this? Honestly, are we supposed to believe this is realistic? Please.
I was hoping Susan would die when she fell down the stairs, but no such luck. Mike scared me in this episode.
Victor also made me jump a mile when Carlos saw him at their house! He's a good actor.
I'm sick of Edie too. Truthfully, I hope next season is the last of DH. It's getting repetitive. Best to leave on a somewhat good note.
12I thought that this episode was great. It truly lived up to the hype. I was like OMG at the end when Lynnette screamed and McClusky's house was just a pile of bricks and rubble. I am so pissed about this whole writers strike and so sad that its gonna be forever until we find out what happens.
13is it wrong of me to think that the cat should have stayed and to be pissed at lynette for letting it out? i mean, obvs, her family doesn't need to die as a result of her actions, but tom should have been prepared and brought his inhaler. lynette has always had some real issues with manipulation and thinking she and her family deserve a LOT more than they really do, but i do hope everyone is okay.
and why weren't they at their own house anyway? from my extensive experience living in the suburbs, EVERY house has a basement.
edie can suck a fat one for all i care. i've been over her for forever. carlos + gabi FTW!
14Did i miss an episode...What happened to the gay couple?
15I'm surprised most people didn't like the Lynette scream, I thought it made the whole ending. How would you react to that scene?? lol Anyway, I loved this episode!!! I was confused with Lynette's scene at the end, I though she was screaming because it was her house that was gone, not because it was McKlusky's house and her family was in there...how frickin messed up is that?? I really hope this strike finishes soon so we can find out what happened!
16this episode was amazing! when sylvia got sucked out, i did laugh a little - it's so absurd! lynette's performance was great at the end, it gave me chills.
so...according to the story intro, the husband that dies is VICTOR...yes?
17and the friend they all lose...who who who?
These people had way too much time to prepare for a tornado, I mean come on, are we talking, tornado or hurricane here? Does anyone go OUT to by botled water for a tornado?
BUT, Lynette's scream did make the whole ending. Chilling. Can you imagine being able to grasp that destruction knowing your family is inside?
For some reason when Slyvia got sucked away to no-mans land, I did giggle and then thought of Wizard of Oz?
Victor = creepy.
18Crazy episode! I liked it & can hardly wait for production to start up again. We're all left hanging!
19According to ABC.com's recap of last night, lynette was screaming b/c her house was destroyed, not McCloskey's.
20From abc.com
Finally all is quiet on Wisteria Lane. Bree is shocked to find her house has been badly damaged, but Lynette screams in horror when she sees that hers has been completely destroyed.
To the whole cat thing: I have a dog, and he is a member of my family. He would be as close to me as possible during something like this. There is no way I would leave him in a less safe place, or alone, where all the strange noises would be terrifying him. I found it appalling that Lynette let the cat out. If Tom was preparing to be holed up in his neighbor's basement, wouldn't he have brought an inhaler? If someone let me dog loose during a natural disaster and he didn't make it home (or home alive) I think I would be capable of killing that person. Seriously. All in all I was disappointed with the ep. all the commercials made it seem like a huge deal, but I didn't find it to be riveting. There have been better episodes. And Carlos should have known better than and arranged to have the papers delivered to him personally, in his hands.
21I'm a cat-person, but I find it appalling that someone would put a cat's life before a human being. That is what's wrong with the world today, we don't value human life.
Anywho that aside, I loved this episode. It was so much fun. Sylvia getting sucked away outside was hilarious, the special effects were outrageous. The actress who played Sylvia looked so familiar, where might I recognize her from? I think I've seen her play someone crazy before.
I'm glad Victor is gone! Edie is terrible, but I would never take her off the show..she adds drama, but lately she has been over-the-top evil. I did like how she grabbed Gaby to protect her..Nicolette Sheridan looked like a SheMan compared to little Eva Longoria with her height and muscles.
22krampalicious you are crazy. I am allergic to cats and i wouldnt think to bring my inhaler during a figgin tornado.
23Wow.. lynette REALLY annoyed me in this episode. She was a guest in McCloskeys home.. and to act like she's all deserving and throwing out the cat really pissed me off. I would've killed her if that was my pet.
24I thought Gaby and Edie getting stuck together was funny. Who would've thought..
Also, I'm glad victors gone- he creeped me out to no end showing up like that.
I'm also wondering where the gay couple has been?? Anyone ??
ugh. lynette annoyed me too, she is such an imposition with her huge crazy family. and cant she understand that for someone without a family a pet is as important as a child.
where are the gays?
25Ok, despite what the ABC summary says, the house that was destroyed was McClusky's. I went back and watched the scenes where Lynette goes to McClusky's house and the later scene when they run after the cat (they start to go to McClusky's but the grill falls from the sky, and turn and run to Lynette's), finally the scene after the tornado they definately leave Lynette's house. Lynette's house is green siding, McClusky's is painted grey brick. Also, the house they leave has a gold mail box to the left of door and the house number is 4355 on the right side.
I love home office days!
26pargie — You might remember that actress, Melora Walters, from Magnolia in which she plays Claudia, the coke user who falls for John C. Reilly's character. That's what I remember her from, anyway!
27I loved this episode! I like Lynette's storyline and I'm so glad that Victor was taken care of,lol. He was all sweet at first then you find out he's a very dangerous person - he had to go. I felt so bad for Katharine and I like how Bree held Kat's hand - it was a sweet gesture, like they have come to understand a bit of each other. I still want to know why Katharine keeps lying about her 1st husband (and father to her child). I wonder what happened between them or what she did to him that she doesn't want her daughter to know.
28alright... for the lynette s/l, I'm allergic to cats and if I was going to be going to someones house in an emergancy like that, a person I knew did not have a cat, I probobly wouldn't think gee there might be a cat there better bring the inhaler...
29and if it were a slight allergy I could understand not giving in about letting the cat stay, but the man was clearly suffering...
I mean keep the cat down there and watch a man slowly suffocate to death infront of his 5 children, or put the cat in a closet? not really a contest
I can't believe people are actually saying they would honestly "kill" someone responsible for letting their pet out during a natural disaster. I love animals but come on... people come first!
This episode was okay but I'm more concerned about when DH is coming back!! End the strike!
30yes, i definitely giggled when Sylvia was sucked by the tornado. In fact, i laughed at all the animations. does that make me a bad person lol
31this episode was the best from the season, and probably this and last one put together. powerful, unexpected and really serious. love the dead mayor. very CSI of them.
32What about the Mary Alice commentary in the beginning -- one of their husbands will die and so would one of the friends - right?
Also, I'm glad the "Chicago" drama is finally solved (it was LAME!), but what about the drama with Dylan's real father? We still haven't found out about that!
33"As cranky as Mrs. McCluskey can be sometimes, it seems ridiculous that she would choose a tornado as the time to harp on what a bad friend Lynette is."
I completely disagree. I thought Lynette took HUGE advantage of Mrs McCluskey and was cheering when she was called on it. Mrs M was right - Ida was the invited friend, Lynette pushed her way in and only goes to Mrs M when she wants something from her. No, I don't think that means she deserves to die, but Lynette's sense of entitlement is way out of control.
Although it made no sense that only ONE house had a basement in the first place. What about the one where Art lived, which is now Bob and Lee's? Katherine's? We know both of those do.
And yeah. Lynette screamed because the house where her family was had been destroyed.
34I really liked the episode, i hate how we have to wait till the spring.. atleast, to find out whats going to happen
35Pargie-The actress Melora Walters is in Big Love...and she definitely plays someone crazy!
36A couple things -
CNN did an interview w/ Marc Cherry and they were talking about how McCluskey's house was destroyed because the house they actually used was a part of TV history (known from Father Knows Best). They were asking the people of ABC how they felt about destroying this 'piece of history.'
Personally, I think Ida is the person who is dead. The ladies lose a "friend." We've already seen the husband die (who i called as soon as I heard Mary Alice say it). I think they need to keep it someone that is small who at first glance, sounds important but isn't (remember in the first season when they said "one of the wives would be dead" and it ended up being Huber? That's how ABC gets you to watch!).
I am curious to see what happens to Lynette's family - she gets the best story lines out of all the women - some of it should be pushed Susan's way because her story lines are usually so boring, or even towards Gaby (although currently, Gaby has her hands full) - Bree usually has enough going on.
I loved it but I'm going to hate waiting to find out what happened - although it's been filmed, they want to play it with another slew of new eps (which they don't have).
37Big Love! Thank you Minday! That was driving me CRAZY!
oh and what i didnt get about the whole basement thing is - why doesnt anyone on wysteria lane have a basement? Couldnt lynette ask someone else??
oh and Mary Alice's comment that one of the women would lose her husband - Gabby lost Victor, so that came true.
38I just want to say that Felicity Huffman is a wonderful actress. That scream at the end chilled me to the bone, and I thought it was very appropriate seeing that she might have lost her whole family. Oh, and I cant believe that some people are actually mad at her for the whole cat thing. Yeah, she does take advantage of Mrs. M, but when it comes down to it- "cat" does not equal "father of five". And this comes from someone who nearly got mauled by a dog trying to save my family pet.
39didn't the Youngs' house have a basement? cause that pedophile moved in there and had those pictures in it. i don't think Lynette's family is going to be dead. Ida probably since she's older and alone, but not Tom and the kids. that would just be too much. also i found it really hard to believe that the cat would just run outside during a tornado! i knew cats that liked to go out in the rain, but lots of noise and high winds? especially since the door just burst open like that.. i thought that was ridiculous. and the gay couple has a basement, too, now that i think about it. cause that is where Betty Applewhite kept her son prisoner. ha i liked seeing that godawful sculpture get destroyed!
40Such a good episode. I don't think that the writers would kill off Lynette's kids like that. Since Tom and the kids were in the basement of Mrs. McClusky's house, they're probably still in the basement. Its the top of the house that was destroyed. They're probably under the rubble.
The cat thing was insane. To quote a Seinfeld episode 'After four hours, its up to the cat'.
Edie and Gabby stuck together was funny and I knew that Victor would be the one to be killed off. Although I'm still thinking that Tom is the second victim of main characters. The kids will be okay but Tom really hasn't had much screen time or storyline this year. Usually that means first to go.
41Yeah I've been thinking Mary Alice said someone would lose a husband - Victor. The friend could be Mrs McClusky's friend but I don't think they'd make such a big deal out of it, she said they would ALL lose a friend, I don't think its Tom because he's another husband and seriously everything happens to Lynette, I'm thinking maybe Carlos because he's a friend and he's no longer married and he WAS knocked unconscious after Victor was killed.
42Did anyone else think that Gabi and Edie were going to "get it on" in the crawl space? It's just so funny to see how tiny Eva Longoria is that Nicolette can just scoop her up in her arms.
43my favorite line of the whole episode was when carlos said he was going to talk to edie and gaby's response was, "And tell her what? Rot in hell you maggoty wh*re?"
definitely laughed out loud at that one!
44Gosh, I sure hope Toby the cat didn't get killed off. He was my favorite thing about this episode. Did you see his adorable, innocent little face? How could Lynette be so heartless?
45I am so glad you pointed out how cheesy the CG animation was. I was sitting there laughing at that. I thought the show was great though, but yes, how crummy that they left us hanging like that.
46Grrrrr... i got angry at the ending but oh well guess we just have to wait it out!!! i hate when tv shows do this! annoying lol
47and a friend told me they said that a good friend to all and a husband will die... but did it not seem like more ppl then 2 died??
Lynette has always annoyed me with her self righteousness, so I was kind of glad to see Mrs. Mc stick up for herself. Bad timing, yes, but important, nonetheless.
Also, I couldn't help but think of Big Love everytime Sylvia opened her mouth...made up or dressed down, that chick plays a kookie wack job better than anyone!
48I loved it! But I def don't want to wait several months to find out what happens next. I hate cliffhangers!
49Thanks Buzz,
I clicked on the link...I actually think I recognize her the most from Big Love! And possibly, Roseanne and Dead Poet's Society. Might have to check out Magnolia.
