
When the Hollywood writers' strike [1] is really getting me down, there's a mantra I like to repeat: "We'll still have The Wire [2]!"
The HBO series kicks off its fifth and final season Jan. 6, though digital cable subscribers with On Demand will be able to see the episodes a full week early. The 10-episode season is focused on the media and set at the Baltimore Sun, where series creator David Simon worked for years as a police reporter.
