
When the Hollywood writers' strike is really getting me down, there's a mantra I like to repeat: "We'll still have The Wire!"
The HBO series kicks off its fifth and final season Jan. 6, though digital cable subscribers with On Demand will be able to see the episodes a full week early. The 10-episode season is focused on the media and set at the Baltimore Sun, where series creator David Simon worked for years as a police reporter.
A few promos for the season are out now, and they're making me even more impatient for the show to get started again. Each focuses on a specific character — one for Marlo, another for Carcetti. 2i hope they show what is happening with all of the kids- especially randy in that awful group home! can't see how those story lines will be integrated with an expose on the media, but i'm sure it will be great.
