Here's a casting rumor I wouldn't have guessed: according to a random "source" Tom Cruise is being considered for the role of Hugh Hefner in Brett Ratner's biopic on the Playboy founder. This same source claims, "Tom knows of Hugh's colorful past and thinks he would be the perfect person to bring it to the big screen. He also thinks the role would be a challenge for him, and would remind people of his versatility as an actor. At the moment people are concentrating on his personal life, and his marriage to Katie — but he wants to remind them that he can act too."
Last summer the rumor mill was working overtime suggesting Leonardo DiCaprio in the role, which made a lot of sense to many of you.
But Tom Cruise? What do you think of this idea?

Sure, why not? I think that Tom could do it as well as anyone else. Maybe it'll pull him out of this string of horrid roles (War of the Worlds, anyone?) that he's had lately.

6rain man, magnolia, born 4th of july,i used to enjoy his films, i didnt like the blockbuster designed movies such as mission impossible or war of the worlds though.
I just saw him in lions for lambs (good intelligent movie¡) and he is totally believable as the nasty insensitive man.

12Tom Cruise is no where near hot enough to play Mr Hefner. This would be one of the worst casting decisions ever. Regardless of how good of an actor he used to be, I (and I know a lot of other people feel this too) can not see past the crazy.

28No way! I agree most with whoever said that when it is Tom Cruise in a movie, you never forget it is Tom and just watch the character. I think that problem is a million times worse when you're supposed to be playing a real person in a movie...
MORE IMPORTANTLY - Hef and Tom are so different I don't think Tom could even do it. Hef's public persona is so totally laid back and accepting, whereas Tom is SO high strung and forceful. Even in his saying how amazing life is and how great Suri or Kate is, he's very sharp. And the movies where some people think he was great play on this energy he has... I just don't see it working for him here.

31Even if Tom is a good actor with a few decent movies, casting him to play a famous person in a biopic doesn't make sense. "Oh look, it's Tom Cruise playing Hugh Hefner," is the only thing I would be thinking if I saw the movie.
Ugh I can't stand him anyway! Hugh Hefner might also be a little "creepy,"but he is very interesting and intelligent, a movie about him would be great! I have no idea who I would cast...Matt Damon and Leo DiCaprio are two of my favorite actors recently, but I don't know if either of them could pull it off! Anything would be better than Tom Cruise tho!

40someone said Hugh was classy and Tom is creepy. Umm, since when did having sex with 20 year old bimbos when you are 80 years old become classy? That is creepy. If he had no loot at all, would these girls be letting him give it to them in the backdoor, I think not. That is nasty. Tom Cruise comes with his own set of issues, but even if he was poor (and not all Scientology creeped out) he would have no problem getting girls. Remember the Tom of Days of Thunder and Top Gun. Try to focus on that, not Scientology Tom. I don't know if Tom could portray Hugh Hefner. Leo probably could, but the comment about Hugh being classy completely freaked me out!!!
