From the looks of this trailer, Eric Bana gets a whole lot of Boleyn booty playing King Henry VIII in The Other Boleyn Girl. The story looks gripping: two sisters Anne (Natalie Portman) and Mary (Scarlett Johansson) vie for the King's affection — and a place on the throne beside him. Though while I like both actresses well enough, they both seem to me like little kids playing dress up. That said, however, the costumes are gorgeous and I'm still looking forward to seeing this period piece when it opens February 29, 2008.

I am SO going to see this movie. I read the book, and Eric Bana is HOT.
1Eric Bana is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy to good looking and fit to be Henry VIII
Im not feeling Scarlett. I really do not think she is a good actress
Ill probably still see this because Im a sucker for period pieces.
2Ok I need to read the books now...
3i loved this book so much i will see the movie for sure
4they fight for one man, natalie and scarlett in one movie...awesome!
5"they both seem to me like little kids playing dress up" OMG that's the first thing i thought of when i saw that photo above. won't be seeing this.
6WRONG WRONG WRONG. Wrong actresses - would've been better with British no-names or up and coming actresses.
7i have to agree about the actresses to some extent, i love natalie but i picked up this book in an airport for a long flight and seeing the two of them on the cover irritated me because i like to imagine my own characters, i guess that is the nature of reading books turned into movies. lol i would have liked no names as well.
8I love the books love the girls how much you want to bet that I'll get hella pissed off by the movie for sucking so hard?
9im afraid of that too...i havent even seen gone baby gone yet because i love those books
10Haha, well I hope it's good for all your sakes.
11I hate when books turn into movies and it screws up majorly.
I agree with JessNess. I don't see Scarlett pulling off the part in this movie. You really Felt for Mary in the book, I don't think she's strong enough to get that kind of emotion out of the audience. But I'll see it. I LOVE NATALIE PORTMAN. oh and Erica bana just happens to be BEAUTIFUL as well!
12i think it looks great, i can't wait to see it.
13read the book and natalie portman is perfect for anne... as for scarlett... she might be okay (we could be vomiting over lohan!) the book is written like a movie and had envisioned keira knightly as one of the sisters.
14sfwork, omygoodness you just take the word out of my mouth. I was imagining Keira Knightly as Mary
She and Natalie look so much alike
15I have no interest in seeing this film, there are so many British actresses they could've used and yet...
16I did coverage of this script and it was OK not great. Though for the straight fellas out there, it calls for a TON of nudity on Scarlett Johansson's part which...I personally hope makes it to the film.
17Can't stand either of them and won't be seeing this film.
18I´m looking forward this movie, two of my favourite actresses together, but maybe i agree that It would have been better with an entire brittish cast, we´ll see..
19I totally agree with sfwork that the book is written like a movie, a total soap opera. From the look sof the trailer, it doesn't follow the storyline precisely, but that's okay. Like a lot of others here, I really don't like Scarlett, but Natalie's the character who really needs to pull it through. I'll probably see it eventually because the story is such naughty fun!
20Hmmm... It looks like they changed some of the events of the story. Anne wasn't being set up for the king in the beginning of the story. She was in France. Mary caught the king's eye first, and Anne tried to flirt with him by being sophisticated and French. However, at the time the king was into innocent and very English, so he chose Mary. It was only once she started losing his favor that the family set him up with Anne. Oh well. It looks like it will be interesting, if nothing else.
21I think I'll probably go see this one. I do enjoy period movies, even if historical accuracy goes out the window. Will have to re-read the book. It looks like this movie will be good eye candy if nothing else.
22It's weird to think of Henry VIII as being all hot, but eh, it's Eric Bana, so I'll deal.
This looks more like a rental to me, and I agree...it does look like they're playing dress up a bit.
23I really enjoyed the book and I hope the movie does it justice. There's certainly some excellent actors involved.
24That book is actually on my Christmas list!
25love natalie, can't stand scarlett, should be interesting lol
26The books were amazing, and I cannot wait to see this movie.
Buzz, your observation that the girls look like they're playing dress-up is actually EXACTLY what they wanted to capture. These were merely two girls, trying to play the parts they were ordered to by their father and uncle, some of the richest and most powerful men in the kingdom.
27ya'll, king henry is never, ever supposed to be hot. that was part of the book. but WHATEVER, i loved that book, and i'm all about princess movies so this one is a hit for me!
28i am soooo there!
29Henry Was very handsome when he was younger, or so the historical documents say, when he was older was when he was a giant obese man who had festering leg wounds and syphillis and was impotent.
30Considering Anne and Mary Boleyn were only 14 and 15 yrs old, they should look like children dressed up! Hopefully their editing it out of sync and they do stay true to the story.
31Should be fun!
yes! i am reading this over christmas and will be seeing it.
32I am finishing my last 200 pages lol and it is simply a great book! Oh what I would do to slap that Anne lol
33The trailer looks promising too
why in the world do they always portray the sleazebag henry as hot?? eric bana too of all men? i am soo seeing this movie!~!!!
34if you read the book you will see that both of the girls mary and anne were just kids playing dress up
35if you read the book you will see that both of the girls mary and anne were just kids playing dress up
36I really want to see this. And I have a huge crush on Eric Bana. Huge, seriously. It's out of control, ever since Munich.
37Hmm... Perhaps I should have clarified for all the Boelyn experts on here who are so up in arms. I don't think these actresses can carry their roles. Maybe more specifically they seem like Scarlett Johannson and Natalie Portman playing dress up, as opposed to embodying the characters.
38for some reason it seems to me that natalie and scarlett should switch roles. natalie is too sweet and innocent to play anne, and scarlett is too much to play mary. switch them up.
39This looks AMAZING.
40I do like that it's almost as if Natalie and Scarlett have "switched roles." It makes it all the more interesting to watch.
Thanks for the trailer Buzz!
I started reading the book earlier this year when I heard it was being made into a movie. The book was amazing, and the movie looks good too. I will be seeing it opening weekend!
I like the actresses, I just wished they would have switched roles. I can see Natalie as Mary because she can play naive and sweet very well (I think). And I would have perferred to see Scarlett as Anne becasuse I see her playing the manipulative wench better. But by the look of the preview I think Natalie will be able to pull it off.
I wonder who will be playing George? He was my favorite.
41I sort of pictured Keira Knightley as Mary too. I know there are differences in the actual events historically and the book, and it makes sense the movie adaptation would be different. I sort of buy Keira and Natalie as sisters.
42I don't think Keira would be good in this role AT ALL. Mary is supposed to be naive, and very light and feminine. Keira is WAY to bony and comes off as being very intellegent.
I think Mary is manipulated by Anne and her family so much, and I think that the contrast between Mary and Anne will play much better with Scarlett and Natalie. Mary has to have the upper hand in the brains department.
43I heard the book is not that good...almost elementary that it's meant for high school kids....I heard this from an Anne Boleyn fanatic. Well, fanatic's not the right work but you know what I mean...
44Love love LOVE period pieces and will be seeing this. Eric Bana
45I adore this book so I have to see it.
46Sigh, people. Henry the VII was hot in his day, like really really really handsome and really fit. He was a total athlete. It just so happens that the images you all carry in your head are of Henry VIII past his prime, and that is when he got fat and gross. So it totally makes sense that they have a hot actor play him, because he was still young-ish to and handsome at this stage of his life. His several year long affair with Mary ended, and affair with Ann began, when he was in his mid 30's. The general picture we have in our head of Henry VIII is the Hans Holbein the younger painting of him which was painted in 1536, when he was 45. 1536 is also the year that Ann Boleyn was executed. Thus, the image you have in your head of how fat he was, is how fat he was at the time of Anne Boleyn's death, which is not at all what he looked like during his long affairs with both Boleyn sisters.
47Oh, I loved the book! It was such a great read. And I actually saw a poster for this movie about a week after I finished the book and I thought Natalie and Scarlett were pretty fitting. Definitely Natalie (how can you not love her?). But Scarlett, I think she'll do ok. I'm not her biggest fan, but she looks like she could embody Mary. I hope they don't mess up the time line too much, though. But on the whole, very very exciting!!
48wow natalie's evil in the movie!
49i read the book bloody mary abt her history. would love to see the movie!
I love the line; "She's my sister and therefore one half of me". So true. The bond that exists between sisters is so complex and difficult to explain to anyone who isn't one half of a sister combo.
