Watching this week's season premiere of Project Runway felt just like old times. Tim! Heidi! Champagne toasts! Painfully obvious product placement! Talented people doing silly things under ridiculous time constraints! Welcome back, ProjRun.
This season brings 15 new designers to the show, and as always, it was a little tricky keeping them all straight. I'm sure in just a few weeks I'll know exactly whose personalities are the biggest, who's the underdog, and who's hanging around way longer than they should be (a la Wendy Pepper, Marla, and Vincent). But for now, we're just getting little tastes — and next week can't come soon enough! Here are my thoughts:
- We hopped right into the action this year, no "Road to the Runway" audition special or prolonged introductions of the designers. Oh well; I guess if I want to watch the audition tapes, I can just do that online.
- While I'm sure each of these designers will have their own personality in due time, right now it's hard not to assign them a match from the previous seasons' contestants — Steven being this year's Emmett, Carmen being this year's Kara Saun, etc.
I've got lots more thoughts, plus a gallery of all 15 looks, so if you're ready, just read more
- Snap judgment: I will love Christian's cockiness ("I'm kind of a celebrity, in my own head") until week four, at which point I will start wanting to throw things at him.
- Maybe it's because I'm still scarred from Vincent's prolonged stint on the show, but I got a little nervous when Sweet P described the show as her last chance, make it or break it opportunity. Next thing you know, she'll be emptying her 401K and making funny hats.
- Did it drive anyone else crazy that Marion never looked at the camera when he talked?
- Elisa: Eccentric, intriguing "rain goddess," or just batshit crazy? Discuss.
- I can't believe they gave us an underwear shot of Jack in the first episode. I'm not complaining, really, but what do we have to look forward to now?
Now, as for the designs:
- I'll leave the hardcore fashion smack talk up to Fab, but in this round, I was pleasantly surprised by Chris March, Sweet P, and Jack, and I was disappointed in Kit and Marion. I didn't like Jillian's look, nor did I like Christian's, but I can appreciate why others did. And I didn't really get all the love for Victorya's dress; she certainly should have been safe, but contending for the win?
- The colors might have just been screwy on my TV, but I actually liked the jacket part of Simone's look. At the same time, ProjRun never likes playing it safe, and she definitely did that. I'm sorry to see her go, but I'd rather get another week of Elisa craziness. And, by the way, has Simone never seen the show? Saying you did poorly because you ran out of time is never, ever a good idea.
- Oh, Heidi. On Elisa's dress: "Her model looked like she was pooing fabric!"
- Rami's dress might not have been the most original, but it was completely gorgeous and his model looked like a goddess. I totally get why he was the first winner.
Your thoughts? Any early picks? And whose look ruled the runway this time around?

I love the black/white/blue dress I think by Jack...that was my fav, but probably more safe then Rami's....but I kinda thought it looked like the statue of liberty
1As soon as I saw Rami's outfit I knew it would win (and that Michael would hate the rosette - will the designers please research their judges a little better?!), but I do wish it had a little more colour, The grey was gorgeous but it needed a splash of something to jazz it up.
2I actually loved the Ricky's dress....its very wearble
3I thought quite a few of the dresses played it safe, but I liked color combinations and hope the designers will step it up soon.
4Elisa is going to piss me off if she sticks around another week. From the moment she started getting grass stains on that gorgeous fabric, I knew homegirl had to GO. Next week she's going to try to make some pile of sh*t out of wheat and I don't know, some odd deli meat or something. Girlfriend is a mess!
5I also called Rami the winner from the beginning. That one was easy.
6elisa needs to go home. she was ridiculous. her dress was sick. and then she choose even uglier green boots. she has no talent. i could do better. and im an accountant.
7I don't understand what the judges liked about Christians, other than the construction of the jacket. I thought Jack's dress was much nicer and more wearable.
8well I know I'm going to be looking forward to even MORE underwear shots of Jack. my my! I love me some boxer briefs.
9and I have to say even after five minutes I'm already so sick of chrsitian. My roommates and I were already throwing things at the tv. It's unfortunate that those sadistic producers will probably keep him around for way too long just for the drama factor.
I liked a lot of them surprisingly, for the 1st challenge...Chris' dress was great! Remember Michael's gown from last season (the one before the finale)? I thought Chris' gown blew his away & this was only the first episode!
10Ahhhhh, I need cable! I think I'm going to have to skip all of BuzzSugar's Project Runway posts from now on until I can finally see the show. Ughhhhhh.
11I LOVED Rami's outfit. So beautiful. Sorry to say, but Christian is already getting on my nerves. I'm already ready to smack the twit.
12i love everyone's face when Elisa was describing her dress and her inspiration. They made it seem like she was from another universe or something. She's the next (the dude with the glasses who always had outthere outfits but they always seemed to keep him around?!?!?)I can't remember his name. But she'll be around cause they are curious to what craziness she will bring next.
Other than that, great season premiere, LOVE chris dress i thought it was beautiful and mad he didn't win, and i felt Ricky's dress looked like something from wet seal or something.
13heheheheheh buzz that title cracks me up!
14I loved Elisa's sound effects as she was describing her dress, I thought it was hysterical. I'm anxious to see her next week.
As soon as Tim said that Rami's dress was stunning, I knew he was going to win the challenge.
Chris March shocked the heck out of me with his stunning dress considering he was the last one to make it to the tents and thinking that he was left with the crappiest fabrics.
Can't wait till next week.
15I'm with you LittleLady12!!
When Elisa started grinding that fabric into the ground with her knees I wanted to reach into the t.v. and smack her!
16elisa is INSANE!!! who rubs chiffon on the grass??
and cocky or not, i love me some christian....his hair alone is fabulous, and he sleeps on the floor at home!!
and heidi saying the phrase "pooing fabric" was the highlight of my week.
17It was silk.
Elisa is my absolute favorite. I was devestarted that she might be the first to go. I have my fingers crossed for her - I think we are going to see some great things from her
18I felt awful when they made the big guy run!
19Jack Mackenroth is such a badass name. He sounds like an action hero or something.
I loved when Michael Kors said MOB. Who uses the phrase, "mother of the bride" so much that they require an abbreviation?!?
haha...i actually really like Elisa. She's so freakin out there and who doesn't love a rain goddess?
lol...okay maybe some of you don't! I think if she had just let her dress go out minus that ridiculous poo-fabric train, it would have been a million times better. oh and if she lost those green suede boots that were totally off for that dress! i know she was trying to be matchy-matchy but it just looked terrible.
20I can't wait to see what Elisa is going to do next! Apparently she spits on one of her creations? I'm not touching that until it gets dry cleaned.
21Man, was it just me or are this years models really sucky??? The majority of them have horrible posture and their walks are awful. Like little girls trying to walk in their mom's high heels. Yuck They need a catwalk tutorial from ANTM's Miss Jay!!!!
22i missed it?! What was i thinking last night, oh well now I will look for the rerun.
23I loved Rami's dress, but his model looked like a man! hahaha
24Oh and Elisa is nuts! I liked the color of her dress, but the ''pooing train'' not elegant!
My vote goes for batsh*t crazy, for sure. Was anyone else really intrigued by the previews for the season where Tim and Jack had a shocking "conversation"?
25Oh, and sumbum, I'm so glad that someone else noticed the bad models! Not only can't some of them walk at all, but there are a couple who are seriously fugly.
26"Her model looked like she was pooing fabric!" Best line of the show!
27AAAAHHHH!!!
It's finally back!!!!
Love the show!!!
Love the pooing fabric line, the underwear scene, the b*tchy queen, the rain goddess...everything! i cannot wait for the second episode.
28elisa is the new vincent. if she says her outfits get her off i will die.
29i really likes rami's dress to but i'm worried that he might be another nick and only do one kind of dress. some of his other dresses were similar to the one he showed last night. (he was supposed to show who he is as a designer, so i see the point.) i really like his jessica alba dress though.
I like Kit and Jack. And the rain goddess is effing nuts.
30Elisa = Angela, they both dress the same too...hahahahahha. Anyways, I liked Rami's dress and the purple gown. I thought Elisa should've been voted off but of course they're gonna keep her around for ratings...
