Well, after weeks of Heroes episodes that left me stifling a yawn, this forward-moving episode was a relief. Best part: we find out who Adam Monroe is! I certainly did not see that one coming, and I commend the Heroes gang for pulling off such a cool surprise.
Thankfully, there were no Wonder Twins and no Sylar (as much as I like Sylar usually, I want his story to either go someplace or end). Yet again, could have done without the Hiro-in-ancient-Japan thing, but learning Adam Monroe's identity more or less made up for that.
For some of my thoughts on this episode and to share your own (spoilers ahead), read more
- Is it me, or are there themes in this episodes that are very similar to last season's? Last year, Peter was acquiring powers and had to learn how to harness them and use them effectively. This season, Peter has a bunch of powers that he can't remember how to use effectively. Later, talking to Mohinder, Bob says there's "a storm coming," and says that Claire is "the key" ("save the cheerleader, save the world").
- This is the first episode that takes place in the past, present and future, which was neat and slightly confusing at times.
- Nathan calls out the Company for never giving any straight answers, only manipulation before asking Bob what exactly it is they do. Finally someone else is sick of all the vague questions and no answers.
- The princess breaks out of her restraints, muttering that "they always underestimate women." I liked that part.
- Mr. Muggles is totally watching the makeout session between Claire and West! Also, crazy product placement in this episode with Claire's phone, no?
- Speaking of West (and ignoring his "we don't have to go any further" comment which just grossed me out), I'm starting to rethink my suspicion of him. He seems genuinely scared when he spots HRG. Then again... that could all be a part of an evil master plan.
- Here's what I don't understand about Hiro and his power: If he ever regrets anything (like, say, destroying his hero in a blaze of gunpowder), why can't he just travel back in time again and change things?
- Oh, Mohinder, come on with the honesty! Sheesh. Definitely seems like a mistake to tell Bob about the plan to take down the Company.
- Matt Parkman's defeat of Nightmare Man seems rather simple. I thought the episode started to really get good when Matt's dad Maury manipulates Niki into seeing DL. Could have done without Maury's voiceover as he's staring at Niki ("Tell me your nightmares. How can I make you into a murderer?"). We get it, we get it.
- Anyone catch the aspect of this week's episode that was supposed to be green-themed (and I'm not talking about the commercials featuring footage of the cast members planting trees)? I must have blinked and missed it because apparently West was supposed to help the Bennetts with "some energy-saving household repairs." Oh, and the logo in the beginning was green instead of orange.
- So, HRG is moving the family again and Claire is determined to stay, what, alone in the house?
- Kensei is really Adam Monroe! I love that awesome twist. He says to Peter, "Don’t you remember? You and I are going to change history."

I was actually very excited at the end of this episode. I thought Mohinder had another severe lapse in judgement by telling Bob about his plan with HRG. Also, I'm glad Matt was able to bring Molly out of her nightmare.
1West and Mohinder annoys me. I also don't get why Hiro just can't go back in time, so that Kensei doesn't catch him with Yoko (is that her name?), so he doesn't become pissed and turn evil.
2i had the same exact question about Hiro... you can go back and change anything you want, why wouldnt you do this?
also, i forgot who Adam Monroe is... is it from last season?
3Im seriously drawing a blank
I really liked this episode. It's about time they picked the pace up. But I agree it seemed too easy that Matt Parkman won so easy. Oh and Mohinder, I think he is getting a little annoying to me. My thoughts... West is some sort of spy and will rat them out to the company.
4Oh man! My boyfriend and I got so many phone calls after heroes from our other friends!
I knew though, right before Kensei put his hand around (while peter was just mosying around) that he was Adam. No wonder there were so many files of him in Bob's office. He's been alive FOREVER! When Hiro went back into the fire damage and "saw the body" I knew he hadn't died because I flashed back to Claire coming out of the fire Ned made. I knew there was a reason we saw Claire's creepy body morph back.
Also, I know a lot of you were thinking Claire is a decendant of Kensei (now going to be called Adam) because of their abilities. Then we know that Matt and his dad have the same power. But what about West and Nathan? Do you think perhaps that West is Nathan's son; yes that would mean that Claire and West are half brother and sister. I think that may be the reason behind us having to endure so much West and Claire nonsense.
As for the paintings (which I am suprised Buzz hasn't posted stills of them) why haven't we talked about those?! I think that claire and west are the ones in the background of HRG's picture. I think West kills him because he thinks that is what Claire wants and goes and kisses her after he's shot HRG in the eye but Claire didn't mean for that AT ALL.
I also am 95% sure that HRG has powers. Why would he work for the company with no powers. It's not like he's some higher up doctor like Mohinder.
Just some thoughts.
5Pinkrabbit — The NBC press site doesn't have images of all the paintings from this season, so I can't actually post them.
6We did see several of the scenes depicted in the paintings in this week's episode, though: Peter standing in the window with that Biohazard sticker on it, Niki beating down the door, Kensei and Hiro sword fighting, and now Mohinder has the bandage on his nose and the Company-issued gun featured in one of the paintings. So, they're making their way through them to that final one that shows HRG lying on the ground with his glasses smashed.
ok I get it... Adam is the one Bob was talking about and the person who signed the letter in Peter's Montreal apartment...
wow Im lost today
7quick question - HRG stands for...? I know he's Claire's father but i can't remember for the life of me what it stands for!
8this episode was outstanding! i really like how things are starting to come together. i'm very curious about what happens with adam monroe...
9HRG is horned rimmed glasses. Noah (Claire's dad) wears them and is none by them.
Buzz- Oh, got it. I didn't know. Thanks! I forgot what they all were though. : /
10oh man, i LOVED yesterday's show. I had goosebumps all over.
And hello...what about the virus people? I'm not sure what exactly the virus is but i guess it will start spreading now that Nikki was injected with it. It looks crazy scary even though i don't know what the symptoms are.
It was so freaky to see Angela Petrelli alive again when Peter ends up in 2008 NYC - what's up with that? Maybe it's a shift-shaper in her image? If so, then who is it?
Okay, i love looking at Mohinder and hearing him speak with that sexy (SEXY) accent, but he's so freakin naive and honest that it's just annoying! I think i'd be happier if he was just relegated to reading from a dictionary the rest of the show. Shirtless of course.
Fav moment of the show? Mr. Muggles watching Claire and West "make out" (which was sooooo fake).
Claire's dad is evil. Seriously. There's just no other way to explain his fanaticism about taking the company down and willing to kill people to do it. He's downright scary and even though i used to like him for a second, those feelings are long gone now!
Totally agree with Buzz that Parkman putting his dad in the "nightmare" cell was too simple. There's no way that a man with his powers will be held in for long. I have a feeling he let Parkman do that so he could get off of his son's radar. We'll be seeing Daddy Parkman in the future.
And the ending? OMG!!!! I screamed when i saw that it was Kensei!!!!
Okay, i'm pooped now. I'm lovin this season again.
11thanks Pinkrabbit!
Makes total sense...
12I knew (or at least guessed) that Kensei was going to be Adam Monroe, but I still got all giddy when I saw him. As a huge Sark fan (from Alias), I am really excited to him here as the big baddy. There's just something incredibly hot about him as the bad guy.
13whats bob's power then??? all of the originals had powers right so what could his be???
14as far as hrg goes me and the bf have been talkin about what he might do....he thinks that he might have some sort of super strength (just cause we really havent seen a power like that before) or maybe we were thinking of something to do with seeing through lies. he does seem to just laugh as claire tries to pull things over on him. who knows??!!
and i think that hiro can only go back in time when he "needs" to...ya know like to see the bomb, to be a hero for japan, etc i dont think that he can just jump whenever he wants (remember peter tried to go..er back, forward, whatever to save his chick and he couldnt) or maybe he can only make the jump once.
I read on the graphic novels that Maya's power has something to do with the cure for the virus....
also confused about Hiro not being able to go back and change history once again but thankfully we're done with feudal Japan...I hope.
totally didn't see the Adam Monroe twist coming...
i still can't stand West...
overall, one of the better episodes this season and I can't wait to see next week's!!!
15bob's power is that he can turn stuff to gold. bob showed mohinder (and us) that when he was recruiting him for the company in the season premier i think.
this episode was certainly better than all of the rest from this season, but i'm still not 'excited' about it. maybe it's b/c i know they're going to wrap up vol. 1 early b/c of the strike...
16The best episode of the season so far, due to the ending. Now I love Kensei/Monroe character. Now things are coming full circle. For a doctor and scholar, Mohinder is really clueless. For the first time this season I am actually excited about the next episode.
17if adam monroe has been around forever, does that mean claire is immortal too?? soo confuseddd!
18It seemed like Hiro was a little naive to automatically think Kensei was dead, especially when he was the one to show him his power of regeneration.....
I loved loved loved the Hiro/Ando reunion. "No bomb? No boom?" LOL. It was really good to hear his giggle and see his big smile again. I hated him finding out his dad died though.
What was up with the Bob showing Nathan the newspaper -- snow in Miami....does Adam control the weather, among his other powers? Or am I blatantly missing something? He did mention it could have been a tsunami....
Also, in the previews for next week, they bring Elle back and I do believe Bob is her dad, which some of you have mentioned before!
Was definitely satisfied with this episode. Will be very sad if the season finale is on Dec. 3!
19FINALLY. Heroes is BACK. Because DAMN if I ever saw the Kinsei/Adam thing coming. Anyway, well done, show...
I basically agree with everything already said about its fabulousness and mindblowingness...
Still creeped out by West... Still slightly scared of HRG...
Didn't miss the Wonder Twins at all. Did miss Elle.
CANNOT WAIT for next week! they promise answers! WOOT WOOT!
20nica, angela petrelli isnt dead. Adam didnt get her.
scissorz he has the "midas touch" he can turn things to gold. first time he was on he showed it
Just let me say, poor caitlin.
And for all the "why doesnt hiro just go back in time and change things".....Sigh. did any of you remember him trying to do that with the waitress, he has learned his lesson on that. although he might try it with dear old da.
21Best episode this season. I have to agree I did not miss the twins and Sylar at all. I'm really over the whole Sylar thing, can his character do something different for a change??!!
I can't wait to get more out of Elle next week and here all about Adam, I was amazed with how it ended-can't wait till next week!
22"Here's what I don't understand about Hiro and his power: If he ever regrets anything (like, say, destroying his hero in a blaze of gunpowder), why can't he just travel back in time again and change things?"
The show already made this point with Charlie the waitress last year. You can't change the past. I have a theory that Hiro changing the past wouldn't change his present. It would just create another timeline.
Leaving Caitlin in the future was possibly the best way to eliminate an annoying peripheral character I've ever seen. I hope Peter just leaves her there.
I love Angela Petrelli. I don't even know why.
23thanks for clearing up my confusion over Angela Petrelli caterpillar!
And yes, i agree...i love her total cold-heartedness for some reason. I know there's some good underneath but i don't know where!
24So, Elle I think is Bob's daughter, and she grew up in the company, very aware of her powers.
And I was "yes!, he forgot the irish chick!!!" and my bro was like shaking his head in my direction...
We think that Adam has powers like the Dorian Grey of the film (the one where Sean Connery stars in), so he regenerates and he doesn't age.
And maybe if Noah has powers... he has a power like Charlie (the waitress), man... he can think, he can do plans, he can kill, he understands his wife and Mr. Muggles. I don't know why Claire insists on doing the contrary of what her father says.
25Dorian grey didnt regenerate, the whole story behind him was that he had a portrait done of himself and he was so awed by his youth and beauty that he freaked out about getting old and stated outloud if only his picture would grow old and he would stay young forever , he would give his soul for it.
Over time he notices that the picture does grow old and he does stay young. only when he realizes that his wish has destroyed the woman he loves, and turned his mentor away from him, does he destroy it ...only to have himself die instantly an old man while the portrait is young and beautiful again.
Adam doesnt grow old, because his cells regenerate. simple as that.
26I did read the book.
(wow... that sound so... my mom should be very proud)
Well anyway.. Adam got Wolwerine powers. Does that mean that Claire will be a midget.. I mean, young forever till she die?
27I have a feeling they named the character Adam for a reason. Adam, the first man. Makes since that he might be the father of all the powers and that all of these people come down the family tree from him somewhere.
Just a hunch.
loved the episode
28this episode was AWESOME. i gasped when i saw kensei was adam...but it makes me very happy. although i am curious what all he can do.
what does NOT is mohinder being lame and telling bob the plan. because he is stupid. but hot.
and yay for DL, even though it wasn't real....and even bigger yay for no wonder twins.
29I liked this episode....I gasped at the end when Adam's identity was revealed!
The nightmare man is so evil. But I'm glad that Parkman put him in his place.
I think the stories of each character are starting to weave together. I'm excited about that because there seems to be a lot of plotlines going on.
I'm glad we got a break from the twins. I really hope Sylar kills them off.
30Milo is ripped.
31I stopped paying attention after the point he was being hosed down. Unfunfunf.
On wikipedia, it says that Elle is Bob's daughter. This is what I do when I'm bored at work.
I think everyone else covered all the other points I wanted to make. The Hiro thing frustrated me as well. Couldn't he just teleport back and get it right? I don't believe he has that much of a grasp on his powers yet, unless his instincts need to take over in a life/death situation.
I just started watching Heroes! My bf and I watched season 1 and 2 over the course of 2 weekends. We're a little miffed that we now have to wait an entire week to get our next fix.
32If Hiro can use his powers all high on opium...he has a handle on them.
again, he learned his lesson from Charlie about changing history.
33Does any think that Elle could be Adam's daughter?
34Loved this week's episode (although I missed Sylar). Especially enjoyed the Hiro/Ando reunion. I totally predicted the Kensei is Adam thing, but I still have lots of questions that I hope are answered next week. And would Sylar please kill the twins already!!!
35Am I the only one who thinks that there is a possibility that Adam is the father of Elle? And that is the connection between Claire and Elle?
I have a lot of thoughts about this.
36not sure if im behind =Pim a first timer from aus haha but here are some of my thoughts =D
personally i think the Mohinder and HRG paintings could be linked (Mohinder holding a gun, and what looks like a bullet hole in HRG's.... HRGS) i was so so so happy the wonder twins were gone the fact that the broham hasnt squeezed the life out of Sylar is rediculous =P
I'm a little curious about Adam/Kensei and Claire's power, if their cells regenerate to keep them young forever, why is Adam so much older than Claire? and why arent they both infants?? super babies!! just some thoughts =P
