Barring an unlikely last-minute deal, Hollywood's film and television writers will indeed go on strike within the next couple of days. The leadership of the Writers Guild of America, whose contract with the The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers expired on Wednesday, called for the strike at a meeting on Thursday.
The timing hasn't been announced yet, but TV Week and others are reporting that the strike will likely begin on Monday. More details are supposed to come out by this afternoon. Negotiations could continue over the weekend, but writers said they're already talking about how the strike would be carried out, not whether there will be one.
What does it mean for you? Well, unless you work in Hollywood, it doesn't mean much — for now. But if a strike really does begin on Monday, late-night shows will be affected immediately. Most primetime shows have enough episodes to last through November, at least — by which point I hope this will be resolved. Here's more on the potential effects of the strike. I'll do my best to keep you up to date, so stay tuned.

I really hope that they can get this resolved.
1i agree! i know that we really don't know or understand all of the issues involved... but I also hope that it can come to an end quickly!
2I agree, I don't want to see how bad this can get-because I'm sure it can get brutal.
3Thanks for keeping us updated, Buzz. We can only hope that this conflict ends quickly and reasonably; compromise is never easy, but not impossible.
4What happens with shows like the Office where the writers are also the producers and the actors? It must be tough being both management and labor.
5i read somewhere that hosts/actors who also write (like david letterman or the SNL cast) are allowed to continue to do so, but can only contribute the same amount of stuff they contribute when there are writers working.
6I'm really scared about this mainly because I plan on moving to L.A. in 2 months for a career in Hollywood (I'm being 100% serious)! Ahh, this couldn't have come at a worse time. I hope they are able to come to a resolution that will work for all sides.
7That sucks...I love watching SNL. As for the other shows, I really hope they can work out their problems before new episodes run out.
8say what now?
9this is seriously not cool.
This sucks.
10i hope they get this resolved =/
