From the Department of Internet Rumors comes this tidbit, courtesy of TV Guide: The Office is reportedly looking to expand into a spinoff series, a la Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice. The show would air a special episode introducing a number of new characters, and then those characters would become the focus of a new series. Unlike the Grey's/Private plan, none of the original cast members would end up in the new series, and producers are apparently searching for "a name" to headline the potential new show.
A year ago, I might have said something like "there's never too much Office!" But after watching those hourlong episodes this year, I think there is, actually, such a thing as too much Office. I'd rather see them focus on keeping one show strong rather than setting up a potential second series. Then again, maybe NBC could harness the power of the show and end up with two hilarious comedies. Anything's possible, right? What do you think?

oh i just don't know, buzz! if it's not any of the same characters then... maybe? if it's an office and documentary style with the monologing to the camera, then isn't it basically the same difference? hmm...
1My biggest complaint is that Private Practice took my favorite character and turned her into a whiny, weak, pathetic person. There are no strong women except for the hospital doctor we are supposed to hate. If they make an Office spin off without taking a character away from the show i think it will go well. I mean look what happened when Jim left the Scranton office? It was still funny and we liked those new characters (especially Andy!)
2Spinoffs never do well, except for maybe Frasier.
3I have to agree with Liz4aker. Taking Addison from Grey's was a mistake. As long as the Office writers don't take away any of the major characters, it should be okay. However, I don't think I'd watch it.
4I think they should concentrate on the original. Spinoffs are almost never as good as their original counterparts. I have no interest in watching Private Practice even though Grey's used to be my favorite show (finally I couldn't stand Meredith, Izzie, and George anymore so I had to stop watching). I love The Office, but I think a spinoff might detract from it. Why can't Hollywood think up fresh, funny shows?
5This is my most favorite show! I really hope they dont make a spinoff just yet...
6It also helps that I am from near Scranton, PA as well!
bad bad bad, i hate it when they do that crap!
7I would TOTALLY watch it. I have a feeling that it might be starring Karen. She is totally a girl version of Jim.
8BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD IDEA!
The office is good for a REASON! Leave it alone!
9the office is starting to get a little tired, for me. i agree w/buzz, that there definitely can be such a thing as TOO much office (and i wouldnt have thought so last season, either). So i say no spinoff, just work on making this office better again!
10I wish they wouldn't.
And if they do do it, I kind of hope they don't go with the documentary angle. I feel like that's The Office's thing, and it'll just be like too much of a good thing. Not to mention it's pretty unrealistic that the documentary crew would make ANOTHER documentary about Dunder Mifflin.
If they do a spin off around the Corporate offices, or even the Warehouse, I would be more interested. I don't see the point in creating a spin off around another Scranton-like office. Too similar. But I'd prefer it if it wasn't Dunder Mifflin related at all.
I love The Office to death, and I don't think it's getting tired at all - but I don't understand why they can't just leave it be in its perfect crazy little world. Why does NBC have to squeeze every last nickel they can out of it?
My biggest worry is whether or not this will take away any of the insanely talented writers. I'll be so upset if that happens.
11Normally I would say oooo, bad idea. But I love this show so much that I'll take more of it ANY time! It would still have good writing, and it wouldn't interfere with the original (like introducing new permanent characters would), so I'm all for it!
12The Office is just about my favorite show ever, so I will scream from the mountain-tops: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Stick with keeping the original series good.
13I would normally say no...but NBC doesn't really have anywhere to go but up.
14worst idea ever
15bad idea
16Don't fix it if it isn't broken!!!!!!!!Leave things the way they are now!!
17All I can say is NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. The show is strong enough on its own. Plus I cant think of any other actors who can pull off this type of humor
18TERRIBLE!
19It's so lazy. I am sick of recycled shows (spin-offs), remakes, do-overs. Meanwhile, we keep having the whole entertainment world shoved down our throats. I'm not taking this stuff seriously b/c they aren't even trying. This is supposed to be a job, treat it like one. YAWN.
