I would make some kind of "Saw IV slaughtered the competition!" pun here but I'm just not in the mood after hearing that this fourth installment of the Saw series took the No. 1 spot at the box office this weekend. The horror flick drew in an impressive $32 million, significantly more than the No. 2 movie, Dan in Real Life. Surely the proximity to Halloween helped get people in the theaters for Saw, but I'm still a little surprised by this. Most surprisingly, however, is that more women than men were in the audiences for Saw. Interesting, to say the least.

At No. 3 was 30 Days of Night, while The Game Plan continued to score big time at No. 4. Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married? took fifth place, bumping Michael Clayton out of the top five.

I don't quite know what to think about the horror movie genre taking over at the box office. personally, i hate the idea that we pay lots of money to watch people die violent and nasty deaths from mythological creatures. of course, I say that as someone who loves heroes kind of obsessively, so i recognize my own hypocrisy.
anyway - I've heard good things about 'dan in real life' and would like to see it... and will never see 'saw 4'.
did anyone else see it? was it fabulous enough to deserve #1 at the box office?
1Guess there will be a 5 now. When will is stop?
2My sister went to see Saw IV on friday. She said it was horrible and she liked the first three movies. She said that half way through they almost left because it was so bad but they stuck it out and it didn't get any better. My husband and i were going to go see it yesterday but after talking with her we didn't. Maybe i'll rent it when it comes out just to see it.
3I haven't seen this one...yet. I am a huge fan of Saw movies and was surprised when they said there was going to be a 4th. I would have been one of the $32 million worth if I didn't family obligations this weekend. Damn! I hope it's not as bad as people say though
4Liss that's odd, i heard rave reviews from a lot of people here. Hmmm...
I heard the plot was much better in this one.
5After the stupid, disappointing end to the first Saw, I never went back.
6Please, I'm supposed to believe that dude lied on the floor the whole damn time and no one noticed he was alive.
i really hate these saw movies and wish they would stop. But since it's doing well in the box office they will continue to make more.
I saw Dan in real Life and wristcutters: A love story instead of Saw 4. and both movies were great.
7I loved the first, thought the second one was okay, but that last one terrible. It's the closest I ever came to vomiting in a cinema
So I won't be going to see this movie. Unfortunately it was the only scary one at the cinema here this weekend. Hopefully I'll see 30 Days of Night next weekend.
8Oh well, I loved all of the Saw movies and I will check this out Friday. To LaLa, seven installments are the planned total, so after Halloween 2010, it should be over...
9I've seen Saw IV, its good in my opinion, but not as good as the others. I've always been a fan of the series - the first 2 are absolute classics in my eyes and the third & fourth are still great.
10This article is written in a bit of a biased way. Wow females go to horror movies. Shock horror. And omg Saw IV did well (JUST LIKE ALL THE OTHER SAWS DID) and pulled top position. Never ever could've predicted that one, huh? I thought it would have been pretty obvious that it would.
Sorry to sound like a b*tch its just frustrating to listen to so much negativity. Some people do like these films, you know.
don't watch it if you haven't watched the other SAW movies....and dont bash on it, it's a perfectly good suspenseful movie. NOT SCARY, but it keeps you guessing on who's next and why.
don't understand why people are posting comments like "i REFUSE to watch it!"...nobody asked you and it was obviously a GREAT movie (money talks, especially when it's $32 million), whether it was close to Halloween or not,...I'd mosdef go watch it again. Why would you even READ this article AND post a negative comment if you dont even LIKE it? haha, how much you wanna bet you'll ALL buy it on demand or DVD when it comes out....we'll see....
keep the SAW movies coming, lol, my boyfriend and I were joking that our future-teenage-kids would be lining up to watch SAW 30, haha
