This week's episode had a couple key things that revived my love of Heroes: Kristen Bell and Nightmare Man. We didn't get to see too much of Elle and her electrifying power, but just the taste was enough for me. Too bad we won't be seeing Elle again for a few episodes, as Bell explained recently.
However, this episode also featured some massive lapses in judgment that I found distracting. More on that later.
I certainly did not miss some of the more tiresome storylines, like the West-Claire stuff, or the Maya-Alejandro drama. Could have done without Niki's issues in this episode, and I'd like to find out where the Monica thing is going, too. For more of my thoughts on the episode and to share your own (spoilers ahead!) read more
- I actually like Peter with Caitlin, I think they're pretty cute. And hooray for some romance on this show that doesn't involve Claire and West!
- It’s so good to see Kristen Bell on TV again!
- Both Elle and Nathan utter the line, "I can take care of myself."
- Lapse of Judgment No. 1: Nathan tells Matt to read his father's mind — with his father right there. If we've learned anything about Matt's power it's that as soon as people know that he can read minds they control their thoughts. That seemed foolish on Nathan's part.
- Lapse of Judgment No. 2: Matt takes the handcuffs off his dad! And then follows him around the apartment like an idiot! He later says "I knew this was a con, I knew I couldn’t trust him." Then why did you take off the handcuffs, Matt?!
- On the topic of Nightmare Man/Mr. Parkman, his power is insanely cool/scary, making people experience their worst nightmares (or making them think they're experiencing them).
- Lapse of Judgment No. 3: Mohinder takes Molly to the Company! Come on, Mohinder!
- Does Bob remind anyone else of the dramatic version of Kevin from The Office?
- That Parkman/Nathan wrestling match is awesome/brutal/terrifying. See, we need more stuff like that and less of Ando reading scrolls about Hiro's story which currently seems useless.
- Who’s Elle’s daddy? My money's on HRG.

Damnit I want to get on board with this show but it's like a soap opera I have no idea what's what. I turned on last night and some annoying Irish chick was yammering with Peter the painter (who's dead but not ??!!!)
1I'm loving Veronica Mars on the show but why is she trying to kill the undead Peter?
That scene with Peter painting was just freaky, I agree.
I'm playing catch up with the show as well, but it gets easier every episode, stick with it!
Good recap Buzz, along with the comments, they help me out.
2I think Bob is Elle's dad.
3I thinks Elle's dad is the man of the company, the one who can turn anything in gold.
And I don't like the chick with peter.
And... I think the bogeyman save Sylar, and the bogeyman is the one that brings all the cockroaches to our sight.
How cool was Matt/Nathan scene in which they were fighting each other?
4Soapboxer, you're probably thinking of Isaac, he was the painter that died last season. Peter is just mimicing (or whatever you want to call it) his power.
5I think Veronica Mar's dad hasn't been introduced yet, he'll be another of the original heroes, we've only met about 6 of them some far and there are how many? 8?
6wow i didn't even think the possibility that hrg could be elle's dad!
7I think Bob is Elle's dad, too... which I find a bit too obvious.
Hooray for more Peter.
8Parkman's dad is creepy as hell. When he was leaving the apartment the look on his face was scary
9my boyfriend totally called the nathan and matt fighting each other thing.
and yeah....why oh why would mohinder take molly there???? totally insane.
and WHAT CAN THE VOODOO GRANDMA DO??? she has to have a power, she seems to eerie and weird to NOT have one!!
and my money is bob being elle's dad.
10While I guess it's possible that Bob or another one of the 5 or so original Heroes (5 are supposed to be dead, and there were 12 in the picture, but there were three women that we did not know) could be Elle's father, I think she was using it as a codename or considers the Company her "parental units". I think I read an article somewhere that said that Elle's parents gave her up to the company as a child. I don't think that HRG would be old enough unless one of KB's powers is to age quickly. Plus, HRG has no powers and we seem to be finding out that kids who have powers have parents who have powers.
11I must have gone back and forth four times on whether Parkman's dad was the big baddie when they came to his apartment. He seemed so slovenly and almost drunk, plus why was he asking who they were if his power is mind-reading. Then he had the picture of himself, but then he wanted out of the handcuffs and said he attacked Molly because she was trying to find him. Buzz, I didn't disagree about taking the handcuffs off, but I would have made him free Molly first. Then, the second he took off into the other room solidified it for me - BAD GUY. Cool power to be able to trap people in their nightmares, (reminiscent of X-Men and even Charmed), but that is okay by me.
Glad Peter is ready to get back to work, making out with the Irish chick all day was starting to annoy me. I am a little surprised that she goes with him to Canada considering he got her brother killed.
Looking forward to next week as always.
Askmetostay:
12Grandma VooDoo definitely has a power: She was in the picture of the original 12 older generation. I wish Monica and Micah would get her advice on their powers. Though I was wondering how Bob knew that Monica had developed her powers - could grandma have ratted her out to the Company?
oh, my money is on HRG being Elle's dad as well... but mostly because every time that KB talks about her character, she says that the ties to Noah and Claire go deeper than we would have thought. That seems to fit. But who knows.
Also - the worst nightmare thing? Holy crap. Nathan wrestling himself but then wrestling Matt... damn. And once again, how did Nathan's face get like that and then get better again?
Peter and Caitlin - adorable. I love that the previews make it seem like she goes to Montreal with him. I hope she's in this for the long haul.
Loved the lack of the Wondertwins but was sad that we didn't check in on Claire. Still could do without Nikki entirely and am intrigued by Monica and Micah and how that's all going to work out.
Still wish that Heroes was on every day...
13I'm so glad they eased of the Maya/Alejandro storyline. I was getting sick of seeing her powers and the freaky black eyes and tears.
14Matt's dad gives me creepy child molester vibes. Ew...
15I'm so bored of Hiro in ancient Japan. I think the writers know it's a boring storyline too because of the way they just breezed through it this week.
"Who’s Elle’s daddy? My money's on HRG."
NO WAY! it's totally bob. i'm hoping she turns to the good side when her dad dies. meaning soon.
by the way, matt is a TERRIBLE cop. how could he fall for everything his dad was saying knowing he's been torturing molly in her dreams?
16I am so excited that Kristen Bell is on here!!
17I was a little annoyed last night with the story line...it wasn't as exciting edge of your seat thriller. It was nice to have a break from Claire though.
18i cant stand HRG, he creeps me out. but i am SO happy to see veronica mars, ERRR i mean kristen bell back on tv!!!
19It was Parkman's daaaad... he was surely hoping he would help his own son, we can't expect them to act perfectly can we? Matt was worked up over Molly, over the fact that his dad can do what he can, probably excited to learn something new about his power...
I think Matt's storyline is my favourite so far, and I'm glad Nathan is included in it, gotta say. And Monica's definitely growing on me... her and little Micah, just awww!
Mohinder's acting ridiculous though, that's for sure...
20I like Claire's storyline!
But Hiro's storyline seems completely pointless, not to mention BORING.
Oh and have to mention how hot Nathan was this episode, kind of distracting...
21I loved her on the show.
22I am sooo glad that there was no Claire and/or West in this episode. Not to mention no Maya and/or Alejandro either.
I, too, am annoyed that Peter and that Irish chick keep making out but I guess being kept in a crate can make a guy real horny.
I totally knew Matt & Nathan were fighting each other. Cool power though...And I agree that Nathan shouldn't have said anything about Matt's powers. He should've just kept his thoughts to himself since Matt can read his mind anyway.
Yay for Kristen Bell!
23"Who’s Elle’s daddy? My money's on HRG."
woah, I never thought of that, but now that I think of it, HRG could TOTALLY be her dad! I mean who was it that said it, I don't remember who, but someone from Heroes said that Elle had connections with HRG and Claire. Him being her father would totally make sense.
I agree, Maya and Alejandro did kind of get annoying, I really just want to know what the point of their powers is. Their story line seems a bit too dragged on if you ask me.
24Pretty good episode this week. I'm really glad there was no Alejandro and Maya. Their story isn't that interesting anymore. Peter and Caitlin make a way hotter couple than Claire and West. oh, and West is most definitely evil. The scene with Peter painting the picture was pretty intense. So were the nightmare scenes. And yay! to Kristen Bell being in Heroes.
25I'm not minding the West/ Clair story line but the May/Alejandro thing is killing me! This over all episode was kind of blah for me.
26On another note, I saw 'West' on a rerun of ER today from a few years ago, how old is that kid?
Gosh, I thought this episode was just terrible between the truly awful acting, boring plotlines and stupid decisions!
No West, though-- hate that guy. I think it's possible that Elle is Nathan and Peter's secret sister, and that their father is not really dead. I'm intrigued by the
Parkman father plotline, but the Hiro story should be so over by now! There are no surprises in it at all.
The incredibly fake generic "southern" accents for the New Orleans girls are awful-- I doubt they'd know a N'Awlins accent if they heard one. I found that storyline a bit blah as well, though Monica is cute.
27Am I the only one who doesn't dig Caitlin?
28I'm not liking this season as much as season one. Mohinder and Matt both bug me because they always do really stupid things. And I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with Kristen Bell, but all my bf and I could say when we were watching her on Heroes is "that is some terrible acting".
29omg I agree with everything you said, I was thinking, why did you take the handcuffs off if you KNEW??!! I digress. I really absolutely hate this show, I can't stand any of the characters. I have no feeling for any of them, they were all poorly developed in my opinion. I have to watch the show cause my hubby loves it and he wants me to watch it with him. The one I hate THE MOST is Mohinder, I HATE MOHINDER!!!!!!!!! I don't know why and I hate FREAKING HATE THE CRAPPY FAKE IRISH ACCENTS!!! Couldn't they have gotten some people that actually have real accents or at least don't weave around with irish then new york then irish. I want to slap them!
30Oh and yeah, my husband was getting annoyed with peter and fake irish girl, he's like, is that all they do, make out? This show has the worst acting.
31I totally agree with everyone you pointed out! This episode was much better, and I'm so glad that the wonder twins were left out - they totally bore me. My boyfriend did say, though, right after it was over "Is this season going really slowly, or is it just me?" I just want the build-up to end (if that's what it is) and the season to really get going again.
32princess_eab — You're blowing my mind here... I love your Nathan/Peter/Elle sibling theory. I've always assumed Nathan and Peter's father is not actually dead, so your theory sounds really good to me!
33I like West! I didn't mind not seeing him in this episode, but I'm having patience in deciphering what's coming for him.
I can't stand Nikki and I'm sad to see her back. DIE ALREADY.
I don't know, I kinda have a feeling Elle is Peter's sister. For some reason, that's what I got but I can be wrong. If it turns out to be right, I called it.
34I think HRG is Elle's dad too haha.
