I have to admit, this week's episode of Desperate Housewives made me pretty uncomfortable at times. Between the dying woman frantic to rid her conscience of wrongdoings and Tom demanding Lynette feel sorry for him because he's the one who has to "be the hero" in her fight with cancer, it was a squirmy hour of TV. Watching Orson joyfully zooming down the street on the scooter made me laugh out loud, though. For more of my rundown and to share your thoughts (spoilers ahead), read more
Susan — Susan is the one through whom we're introduced to the new neighbors, gay couple Bob and Lee, and while it's not fun to see Lee treat Susan so rudely, I must say it's a teensy bit refreshing to have someone call her out on her ridiculousness. All of Susan's efforts to win him over simply backfire, ending with the couple's dog Rafael ruining Bob's suit, and Mike having to pay for a new one.
Bree — It's getting harder and harder to keep up the "I'm pregnant" charade with Bree, what with well-intentioned baby showers and Rex's nosy, grumpy mother Phyllis who discovers Bree's fake bellies in the closet. When she hears Bree's whole plan to save Danielle's reputation by pretending the baby is Bree's, Phyllis breaks Danielle out of the convent. Again, the scooter thing just made me giddy. Who knew Kyle MacLachlan would be so funny on this show?
Gaby — The Gaby-Victor-Carlos-Edie storyline revolves entirely around crabs. Gross. Edie gave them to Carlos who gave them to Gaby who passed them to Victor. In the interest of keeping their affair secret so they won't be swimming with the fishes, Gaby plays sexy nurse and cures Victor's crabs. She later tells Carlos that the whole murder possibility makes their affair that much more exciting.
Lynette — As always: Poor Lynette. I seriously feel for this woman. She gets her mojo back, only to be rejected by Tom on account of her bald head. When she gets a sexy wig and pretends to be "Brandy," he's totally into it and wants to role play all the time, which Lynette is not so into. That's when they have that discussion about how Lynette doesn't sympathize enough with Tom's spouse-of-cancer-patient experience, and that she really should be more attentive to his needs. I kind of see his point, but Tom always sounds whiny with Lynette, and it's a hard sell when the person you're asking for sympathy from is battling a life-threatening disease.
Edie — Less Edie time this week, which is a relief. I definitely could have done without the scene in which only the people with crabs take the crab cake appetizers. Yuck.
Katherine — According to the voiceover in the beginning of the episode, Katherine's aunt goes to their house to die. Yet she's suddenly seized with the need to cleanse her soul of guilt before passing on, so she begs Katherine to let her tell Dylan what happened to Dylan "in that room." She never gets the chance to make her confession, however, so as she's gasping her final breaths she writes a note, which falls to the floor unnoticed. This is an unpleasant storyline.

Hahaha, I agree on the crabcakes thing--thanks for the anvil, ABC!
I also have become a big Orson fan--never thought I would, but heh, he's awesome.
I'm also really sick of Susan...she just really strikes me as obnoxious lately, especially with the whole wanting kids thing with Mike, and now this. Lame.
Also agree on the stuff with Tom...maybe it's just because I have first-hand experience with cancer, but seriously--his "what about me" act really bugged me when he asked Lynette for a, um, sex act when his back was thrown out even though she was totally run-down, and this just made it even worse. Just, ICK. Also ICK on Lynette for calling herself a "cancer b*tch". Just sayin'.
1...meant to say "first-hand experience knowing someone with cancer". Oops.
2i'm so glad teh gayz have arrived! and i am also so glad they hate susan as much as i do. UGH.
3you know - what i don't really care for this show so much but there's never anything else to watch at this hour. it's entertaining a bit - but i don't really have a fave character - but it's true - susan is annoying. the whole bit when her daughter gets the dog and ready to take it back to their yard and then she comes up with this whole plan.. it was annoying to watch. i love how they put her in check. i think seeing them being rude to her was the best part of last nights episode..
lol
4i really appreciated the interactions with Lynette and Tom this season. My mom kept saying how great it was they chose to address this, because it's true, it can be a very uncomfortable situation for spouses. Having several people in my life go through these problems with cancer (relationships) - it is a real issue, and I think Cherry took the right road in handling this. Tom did come off as slightly whiny but that's also often what happens - it's a scary thing for him too and it affects him in a different way.
"Bad" Andrew returns. I hope it sticks around - turning completely around was a little too easy of an out.
Love the new couple on Wisteria. I hope they will have entertaining interactions with other housewives.
5uhm... I understand the thing with tom. its hard supporting someone constantly when they are ill, and watching someone you love and care about that much go through so much pain is not easy... and you feel like you can't complain, or talk to anyone because then you're a jerk...
why do they have to make susan such a joke... I mean I had to change the station durring her scenes! its just so unrealistic its unwatchable!!!
6I know I say this every week, but Susan should ne killed off. She is enough to make someone throw a boulder at their TV. Why on earth Teri Hatcher is still on this show is beyond me. Now I know why she couldn't get acting gigs for so many years. She has no talent. And Susan is really an insult to womenkind. Honestly, I don't feel like watching DH anymore simply because I cannot stand this character any longer.
7I wanted to smack Susan. I don't like her normally, but last night I would have been happy if she was the one who died alone. Can Susan please get a real wake up call? I have to say I hope the new couple is going to be very friendly with everyone else.
I also liked how they handled Tom. I thought he deserved to be able to break down a little.
8So random that now Orson is a good guy, when at the end of last season, he was a bad guy. Who knew...Susan is a stright klutz, who would do that with the dog? I mean really. And so shocking about Edie putting together the affair with the crab cakes....
9Oh and Orson was hilarious!!!
10I thought the whole wig falling off while they were having sex a bit uncomfortable. All I have to say is I love Orson, I think he is funny and he is really good for Bree so I hope they don't kill him off or anything. I loved the crabs being passed from person to person, funny stuff. As for Susan, she really is a psychotic freak. I can't believe she would keep someones dog just to win them over.
11I was so angry with Tom at first, but I agree with ESPNgirl that Cherry took the right road by allowing Tom to speak for all those spouses and friends and caregivers who also are affected when someone they love is diagnosed with cancer. If Tom hadn't been allowed to speak at the end (though I wish Lynette hadn't apologized for being a "cancer b*tch"), I don't think the two of them could move forward. The opportunity to grow as a couple and to get through the hard times together was opened up at that moment, and for that, Cherry and the other writers need to be applauded.
Now, Susan is another story. What a pain! My husband said he thought they had turned her into the "Izzie" of DH.
The Katherine story line is keeping me interested, but I hope it doesn't drag on forever. And I can't wait to see what happens with Danielle and Bree and Grandma Phyllis.
12Orson was priceless! Susan is so annoying, but part of the show's charm is that it's so over-the-top. Can't wait to see what Edie does next = )
13I missed it last night since I was out with friends. Thanks so much Buzz for the recap! You do a great job!
14Aw, thanks pinupsweetheart! Good to see you on this thread.
And if you get the
chance you can actually see the clip of Orson on the scooter on ABC's DH site!
15Orson = priceless... hilarious!!!
And the crab cake thing
was hilarious!!!
Bree and Phyllis = I hope I get along better with my future MIL and I can't wait to see what happens with Danielle
Susan = yeah she's annoying... but that's her character...
Katherine/Aunt Lillian/Dylan = intriguing... can't wait to find out what happens... hope they don't drag it out all season
Edie/Carlos/Gaby/Victor = I was scared for Gaby and Carlos
Lynette/Tom = I think the storyline is going good. I really like that Cherry and writers are writing about cancer and its effects on families and friends.
Overall a great show! Can't wait until next week!!
16The whole Susan trying to welcome the new neighbors and trying to force them to like her was really annoying. All of her story lines are so over the top and unrealistic, while the other women, while a little out there, actually deal with real issues, like Lynette and cancer or Gabby and her divorce; Susan just kind of bumbles along and somehow everyone still likes her.
17I did find the show fairly uncomfortable to watch in some places, but thought it was very well done. I can't wait for next week!
i cannot STAND susan, she is most annoying character on t.v. i mean seriously i want to smack her everytime she comes on. for awhile i was wondering why edie was on the show in the first place b/c really she doesnt interact with any of the main characters but she is even better than susan.
18I am going to have to disagree with all the people that feel for Tom. The guy is/has been a whiney jerk from season one, he has whined about his job's, being a stay at home dad, and last season when he threw his back out did he ever ask Lynetter how she was? working her a** off at his pizza joint he had to have. The guys a creep. She would be better off alone.or with Jason Gedrick!
19aw, Susan isn't that bad... she meant well by trying to welcome the new neighbors but they didn't give her a chance!
btw... if anyone missed the episode, you can watch it in full at ABC.com!
20I felt really bad for Susan. I also care a lot about what about what other people think.
21I hated Tom in this episode, he is so insensitive and superficial. You are supposed to love your spouse for who they are.
i heart Orson
22Susan should've been offed in the first season. Orson on the scooter was too funny. As was Bree telling him to slow down. I kept waiting for her to say that she already had another child to deal with.
Was I the only one who thought that maybe the crabs didn't originate from Edie? That maybe Victor is sleeping around and passed it to Gabby who passed it to Carlos who passed it to Edie?
23can i just say one thing: I HATE katherine !!!!
24Susan has been annoying me for a while. I used to really like her character. Oh well.
