Nielsen, the company that tracks TV viewing in the United States, released a study this week stating that the average American household watches 4 hours and 34 minutes of TV a day. So now I'm curious: Do you watch more or less TV than the average American?

on a regular day or a weekend, i watch an hour max of tv. but if im home sick (like today) i may watch 3-4 hours, or cruise the sugar site.
1More than average. I cannot help it. I'm a TV addict.
2Less. Most of the shows are just not worth the time.
3I have my shows each day, thanks to DVR I pretty much only watch those shows. I say I watch about average.
4Who has time to watch 4 hours of TV a night? Good grief! The only night I do that is football night, and even then I can't sit down for the whole game. Besides, there is not really that much on worth watching any more.
5Heh, I'm barely home most of the time thanks to work and school...and when I'm at home I'm usually asleep! Maybe I watch more on the weekends, but I'm lucky to just get my news in the morning and my Conan at night.
6Four hours and 34 minutes!?!?!? Holy guacamole. We watch way less. We don't have cable, so we Netflix. Most nights we watch two episodes of a show we're Netflixing, or a movie. Without commercials, that's like an hour and a half.
7Depends on the day, but no more for sure.
8I watch more than average, but most of the time I'm multi-tasking, reading the newspaper, exercising, etc., so I guess I shouldn't feel too bad.
9I definalty watch less.
10Maybe like 2 hours TOP all day. And usualyl it's on just for background music, like if I'm making dinner or cleanign or something...
I work and go to school and I still find plenty of time to watch 4 hours of television. For example, my Monday night consists of Chuck, Heroes, CSI: Miami, the news, and David Letterman. I will agree with Linda McP though. I'm normally going back over notes for class when watching these shows.
11I don't have cable or satellite either. I may watch the news for a few minutes, but otherwise it's Netflix or reading.
12I have no cable and my tv is more of a monitor-i'm obsessed with music.not so long ago i went by my friends house and we watched cable for a while and i decided that i didn't regret cancelling it about 2 months ago.Now the tv is on maybe for 1hr a week if so.
13Unless there is a game on, I don't watch much televisions at all. There are only a couple of shows I live.
14I don't really have shows I regularly watch, but I spend all of my time online.
15I rarely watch tv at all so I would say 4 hours a week at the most and that's because of the new shows I'm taping each week. I would give myself a pat on the back for that, but what time I don't spend watching t.v. is spent on this blasted site.....lol
16I thought I was a TV addict, and I watch a lot of shows, but there's no way I average out to 4 1/2 hours A DAY! That's excessive. I watch about 12-14 a week...which is more like 2-3 hours a day. I'm surprised that that's considered below average.
17I would say I'm about average.
18I watch tv only when I have time, which is not a lot lately. Thank goodness for my DVR.
19That's an insane amount of tv watching! If I had an extra 4 1/2 hours a day, I sure as hell wouldn't be glued to my tv!
20I keep up with a lot of shows every week, but that's only 2-3 hours a night, so surprisingly, I watch less...
21Much less! Unless there is some sort of special programming, like the Olympics, I usually only watch a couple hours a week on the television (one show and some PBS or Jeopardy or something), and catch another 2-4 shows via streaming video online. I like to watch older shows on DVD also and I do tend to binge on those, watching several hours a day for a week, but then going weeks or even months without watching any.
22there isn't even 4 hours and 34 minutes of decent programming on a single day!!!!
23I would say less than average because I watch about 2 hours a day.
We spend more time playing Wii.
24someone said they watch it while multi-tasking and i do the same so i guess i'd be about average? i don't think those pollsters took that multi-tasking angle into consideration!
25it's hard to answer this cuz while i often have the tv on, it's almost always just as background noise while i go online or work out or clean or something. i'm only really invested in a few shows (law and order, criminal intent, gossip girl, dirty sexy money) but i do have to say, i get hooked on the law and order marathons on usa and other reruns of older shows hahaha.
26Definitely less!
27Ha, my name says it all. I watch more than average, but I'm always doing at least a few other things at the same time.
28i misread it and thought it said 3 shows/4.5 hrs per week so I said average. I'm way below average. I only watch three shows a week. that's about 2.5 hours a week.
29I used to watch about 5-6 hours of TV but now its way less than that...probably 1-3 hours. My schedule used to be to watch ABC family from 3-6 pm and then one of the main network shows from 8-10 or 11 pm but there is almost nothing good on anymore.
30I guess I'm average, but I just started watching TV like, seriously, after three years of not caring.
31I watch more... at least an hour every weeknight, a little on weekends on top of that. I'm usually on the laptop or the ds, or even reading at the same time though... so it doesn't seem like that much.
32I watch 3 hours at the most on a single day. Most days, I only watch an hour.
33For me it depends on the day of the week. On Mondays and Tuesday, it would be on average or just a little bit more. On a Wednesday or Thursday, it would be less.
34I think I'm pretty much above average. And I still have a 8-5 work day.
Mondays - Chuck, Heroes, Journeyman and I DVR How I met your mother & Big Bang theory
Tuesdays - Reaper, Cavemen & Damages. And soon (Nip/Tuck)
Wednesdays - Bionic Woman, Dirty Sexy Money Back to You & Til DEath and I DVR Private Practice
Thursdays- I DVR Supernatural, Greys Anatomy & Bigshots
Fridays are slow but I DVR (Moonlight)
Sundays - Desperate Housewives
Some times I watch Dexter and Weeds.
Over the summer it was slow SYTYCD, Eureka, Burn Notice, Psych, Big Love, The 4400, Kyle XY and The Closer.
PS not including UK Tv shows like Torchwood, The IT Crowd, Robin Hood, Life on Mars and Hotel Babylon. I honestly believed that it would slow down after Buffy. silly me. : )
354 hours and 34 minutes?
That's a lot! I watch less...
36i'm average. but only because i watch TV when I brush my teeth, prepare my meals and wash my dishes
