This trailer for the film adaptation of Gabriel Garcia Marquez's classic novel Love in the Time of Cholera is high in lush colors and meaningful looks, but low in most anything else. I also think this is one example of a voiceover nearly ruining a trailer. I don't think I need the deep, husky voice telling me this is "the greatest love story... ever told." I get it, I get it, now show me some drama and romance!
The story takes place in South America and follows the undying, lifelong love Fiorentino Ariza has for Fermina Daza. At the end of the trailer we find that the movie will feature songs by Shakira, some of which you can hear now at the movie's official MySpace page. I'm kind of digging "Pienso en Ti," a mournful, passionate tune. Love opens November 16. To check out the movie's trailer and then let me know what you think, read more

Ha! Serendipity!
1Does Javier Bardem have the best, most heartbreaking face of eternal longing, or am I dreaming! I can't wait for this!!!
2Hm I've been meaning to read this book! Looks good!
3This is one of my favorite books of all time, but the voiceover on this trailer is horrible! I hope its just doing a great disservice to the movie rather than the movie itself being a let down.
4OMG who ever is the casting director for this film should get an academy if there is one for such position because i love how the younger characters resembles their older versions to the point like they hold off on filming the film for 30 years to see the actress and actors age naturally. it's amazing. Or maybe it's the same actors playing the same parts but with really good make-up. well than i'm still amazed.
5he he, my first thought was serendipity too
I should buy
this book and go to the restaurant in NY and be all serendipitous
I dunno, this movie sounds good, but the trailer was kinda, eh
6This Oprahs book club pick!!! She says it's one of her favorites!
7The music is beautiful!
8"Pienso en ti" is actually a really old song, it was on Shakira's Pies Descalzos album which came out in 1996. Her older songs are really beautiful, some of the new ones aren't as good.
As for the book, I have been meaning to read it since I was in like 9th grade, I love Gabriel Garcia Marquez he's a great writer.
9Man, John Leguizamo's accent in that trailer drove me batty. When is Hollywood going to recognize that a Spanish accent is very different than an Argentinian accent, than a Colombian accent, than a Cuban accent, than a Mexican accent, etc?
10Folks would go ballistic if someone garbled a Scottish accent and tried to pass it off while playing an Irish character, no?
Nikecold, in highschool my gals pals and I loooooved Donde Estan Los Ladrones. Thanks for the reminder!
11How the heck did they take such a wonderful book and turn it into (from the trailer at least) a cheesy Hallmark movie?
12nikecold and fabkitty, yes Shakira´s older songs are amazing... i especially love Donde están los ladrones? too, a great record.
13Thanks I will watch the trailer.
14I can't wait to see this movie..huge Gabriel Garcia Marquez fan...hopefully I can catch it in a theater nearby.
15LOL I know, Shakira was "IT" when I was in school, we wanted to be her
.
16I absolutely loooove Gabriel Garcia Marquez! I read Love In The Time Of Cholera my senior year and adored it. Can't wait to watch the movie!
17This is one of my favourite books of all time! I just hope the movie lives up the the the beauty of Marquez's text.
18this book was super boring. the only part i remember liking was when the couple got hitched and instead of having sex on their wedding night, they just got naked in bed and rubbed each other's bodies to get to know the other person's body. at least, that's how i remember it. am i right? it was romantic, i thought.
19oh I just started reading this book a couple days ago! Love it so far, I hope they can translate the beautiful writing to the big screen.
20I can't wait! I love anything by Gabriel Garcia Marquez and have been waiting for a big screen version. I love Javier Bardem!
