USA's miniseries The Starter Wife isn't so mini anymore. The network is turning the show into a weekly series, with Debra Messing reprising her role as Molly Kagan.
USA is on board for 10 hourlong episodes of the series, which will start airing in early summer 2008. No word on whether the rest of the cast will be back (Joe Mantegna, who played Lou, Peter Jacobson, who played Kenny, and Miranda Otto, who played Cricket, are now starring in other series) or what the proposed story line for these 10 episodes will be. Network executives said they're bringing the show back thanks to the creative team's chemistry, the show's commercial success, and its 10 Emmy nominations, including an acting win for Judy Davis.
I enjoyed The Starter Wife when it aired over the summer, but I thought it came to a natural end. I was also hoping we'd never have to actually deal with the fallout from Molly ending up with Sam, which was one of the few things I truly hated about the miniseries. Starter Wife fans, are you on board with this becoming a series? And what do you think happens next?

I enjoyed it while it was on, and it never hurts to have some decent summer tv. Of course, at my current rate, I'm going to have several shows stockpiled for next summer.
1I enjoyed the show this past summer- have to say I missed the last episode, though. she ended up with Sam? I guess the story can just progress and she has dropped him and a single mom who is dating again with an interesting group of friends. Is Grazier going to be involved?
2I think I'd watch again- love Debra!
I really loved this how and I was hoping they'd bring it back as a series. But, I hate how Molly ended up with the homeless guy Sam. That annoyed me. I thought she and Lou were fun and cute together.
3anything that gives me some original summer programming is fine by me

exactly.
5I'm very nervously excited...I had SO MUCH FUN with the miniseries, but I hope they can keep an interesting storyline going for 10 more episodes. Judy Davis was AMAZING!!!
6I loved this show, I'm so excited!
7This show has so much potential. Debra is phenomenal! Cannot wait to see where it goes next. I'll tune in for sure!
8I read the book a while back. Honestly, there isn't much more to go on for that many more episodes.

10I LOVE THE STARTER WIFE. I just bought it on DVD 2 weeks ago and watched the 6 episodes in 2 days straight!
[Shoshanna's a good girl] LOL!
11I downloaded "The Starter Wife" free preview on iTunes and immediately purchased the whole season.
I LOVED THIS SHOW SO MUCH!!! But I have to agree the ending was horrible. I hated Sam and didn't think they made a good couple. Debra Messing was amazing as Molly Kagan and I can't wait to see new episodes.
If they have good writers on board and assemble the same great cast, I think they can develop a great series. I didn't read the books. I am book lover... but would it be so wrong to change the story a bit to lengthen the the series??
12I loved her character and I'm thrilled about this! But I agree about the bad ending- I'm sure they can work it out.
13Loved the show - not sure how it will translate into a weekly series. I too felt that it met it's natural end and I wasn't really feeling like I needed more; although I also hated that she ended up with Sam and I never liked him much to begin with (not sure if it was the character or the guy who played him though). I'll probably give it a try though. I like Debra and Judi!
14I loved the series !!! I'm excited, as long as the ponds ads aren't sooooo ridiculously placed in the plot line...
