Get ready for the tearjerking story of the week: New Line has picked up the rights to make a film called The Time of Your Life, based on the true story about a Army Special Forces captain who planned a party for his loved ones in the event of his death, and then in fact perished in Iraq.
Check out the real-life details, which sound a lot like the upcoming movie P.S. I Love You:
Shortly after Jeffrey "Toz" Toczylowski died in 2005 after falling from a helicopter, his friends received an email message from him that opened with this line: "If you are getting this email, it means that I have passed away. No, it's not a sick Toz joke, but a letter I wanted to write in case this happened."
The email, forwarded at the soldier's request by a Green Beret pal, invited each recipient to a party that Toz had planned in advance (and set aside $100,000 to fund) to celebrate his life.
It's not often that film news is this is heartwarming and this devastating. Also, that's a lot of money. I'm curious to find out what exactly this celebration entailed. What about you? Are you feeling weepy already like I am?

That's really cool that he did that - but on the other had $5000 would have been a rocking party too - I got married for $20000 - and that included a lot more than a party would.
1I'm not feeling weepy, but I did get goosebumps like crazy. Might make a pretty cool movie, but really, one can never tell what movie execs will do to a perfectly good idea.
2you know, my ex boyfriend said if he knew he was going to die he'd throw a huge expensive party for all of his friends and we'd all dance and throw down and have the best time ever... same thought. i wonder what that inherent need to have a party when death is involved stems from?
3Good news...I've brought a box of kleenex...dig in!
4I am getting goosebumps and weepy.
5wow. i cried in the synopsis.
6and considering i bawled in ps i love you, this is going to be at least a box of tissues.
Oh, goodness. I was just in DC looking at that memorial in the photo- it's so moving and spooky.
7Ooohhh, got goosebumps. I can't even imagine what it must have been like for his family & friends to get that email. That must have been an interesting party - celebrating his life and grieving his passing. Should make for an interesting movie.
