So, that was some pretty shocking stuff on this week's "Prison Break," right? Luckily, I've tracked down a couple of interviews that reveal the real story behind the twisted developments. They're all pretty spoiler-y, but if you're ready to talk about the episode, just read more
So Sara is really, absolutely, totally dead — and with her head chopped off and in a box, no less, despite previous assurances that she would spend season three alive and well.
According to TV Guide's Michael Ausiello, who interviewed producer Matt Olmstead, what you saw last night wasn't the original plan. The writers decided they needed to kill Sara at some point to keep Michael's story fresh in season three, but actress Sarah Wayne Callies and the show could never come to terms on a contract. As Olmstead told Ausiello:
Our initial idea was to have [Sarah/Sara appear in] the first 13 episodes, so she and Michael could have a proper goodbye. There were going to be some really emotional scenes where he tried to save her from dying, but she ultimately passed. So then we whittled it down to 11 episodes, then 10 episodes, then nine episodes, then four episodes…. Then we suggested flying to her — she was pregnant [at the time] and living in a remote part of Canada — and bringing a camera crew to her house, but that wasn't accepted. We then whittled it down to just a phone conversation, and that was turned down, too.
For her part, Callies issued a statement saying, "As hard as we all tried, the 'Prison Break' powers that be and I were unable to find a way to meet both the needs of the story and the needs of my family." For the reactions of the other cast members, check out this video interview.
Callies also expressed hope that fans would keep watching the show, so I'm wondering: Will you? Or is this too big a leap for you to take?

I know I'm bad Buzz, but I am sooo happy she's outta there!
1i missed the first 5 minutes so i didn't know what was in the box. did they show her head? i liked sara's character. i was disappointed to see her go.
2Yeah..they showed the head.I'm not *that* sorry she's gone, honestly-she didn't bring alot to the story.
3She has 'died' before. At least this time she'll stay dead
4With Sarah out of the picture, he now has more naughty time with me.
5But is having LJ still in captivity enough motivation for Michael to spring himself and Whistler? Of course this means that there will be lots of great revenge scenes and lots of angst-ridden closeups for Wentworth Miller.
6lol cageyme @ angst ridden closeups of Wenty!
I don't know, you'd think after they cut off Sara's head, he'd want LJ away from those guys too. And no matter what, he's going to want out of SONA.
7I sort of lost interest in Prison Break last season and haven't tuned in since. Is it worth it? There just isn't enough of a hook to hold my interest.
8I too have lost interest, half way through last season.
9I loved Sarah's character! The show definitely won't be the same without her...I really don't know if I'll keep watching it! I hope I'll change my mind when I see some more of yummy Wentworth
!
10sara who???
I don't watch that.. I only watch his eyes...
11sara who???
I don't watch that.. I only watch his eyes...
12I think that this show has need for lighter things, and Sarah's romance with Micheal was a lighter, more loving part of the show. I think Micheal's gonna go CAH-RAZZZY when he finds out she's dead. CRAZY. He said it himself, his motivation is Sarah.
13The interview with my Wenty gave me chills. I'd cut off my leg with an iPod to be able to hear that voice every night.
Oh... Sara? Eh. I thought she was a bad actress.
14I'm not too upset about Sara being gone, but once Michael finds out... He's going to be sooo upset and I can't see Michael go through that
Poor guy.
I will obviously keep watching.
15Yeah the head thing was a bit much...lol
16Maybe I'll go back and watch episodes 2-4 since she's dead. *whistles*
17I'm glad she's gone! And for her information she's not the reason I watched , so of course I'll continue loving the show!!!
18I'm so sad... and don't know if I'll keep watching. I liked the central motivation of them finding their way together, and I liked that there was something that was just good w/ them.
I hate in shows and movies and even books that are series how they have to break any solid relationship 'to keep things new.' Like only by rocking that boat will things keep moving. As though stories don't keep going with a stable relationship in the background.
rrr.
19I'm sad that things happened the way that they did but in a way i can't wait for Michael's break down. He said that in a way he's battleling his dark side. I wish Sarah's situation had been resolved. All his facial expressions seem to turn me on.
20it's official!!!prison break is done for me!!!
21okay i thought they were trying to trick us iam very sad she wont be on there !!! i love character!!! but i wish her all the luck in the world with her new baby!!!
22people dont give up on the show they will make up for her being gone iam sure!!!!!!
23I guess I fail to see what is good or stable about their relationship. Their time together was limited to a couple minutes that she gave him a needle, it was all based on lies, and the only thing they have in common is the fact that both their Fathers were killed for Lincolns "cause". At best they were in lust, that I would believe, love, not.
24Definitely watching regardless! Loved the Michael + Sara storyline but this is Prison Break, major characters can be dispensable. I think this makes the storyline even more interesting ; namely how will Michael avenge Sara's death? How will the dynamics between Michael and Linc change because of this? Will there be a new love interest for Michael (word on the street is yes there will be!)? And more importantly, will we ever see Michael/Wenty with his long sleeved shirt off? I mean seriously, they're in the tropics and he's all covered up? That's the part I can't seem to fathom. Anyway, love this show and will continue to support it.
25lol N-nee, I agree, its too darn hot in Panama for Michael to have long sleeves. Show us the tat already!
26sent a memo to fox for killing female leads!!!
27Hey, if he doesn't want to continually sit for four hours of makeup(tattoo) daily then i wont fault him for that. Hell, Kiefer went so far as to get a real tattoo to avoid the same thing.
28i hated Sara, this show is about boys and i don't want to accept any girls. someone might say i'm jelous, let it be. but i actually was glad to see Sara's head. it was very shocking view and she's a nice person, but i love these boys to be single and all bad-ass. crying and love conffessions are so out of line for this show.
29i just saw that episode today, and I was shocked, funny I kind of thought one way or the other sarah would be killed off!! Which is the reason why we love prison break remember when the lawyer girl was killed in epi 1 or 2??? Well that's it
Well let's see how michael takes it when he finds out.
Don't think it is a bad move, sarah's role was becoming redundant anyway
30I agree, I think Veronica's death was more shocking. You didn't know who they were going to shoot at first, and then they just plugged her, and brought in the cleaners, took her out in a gym bag! Brilliant!
31With Sarah, I was kind of expecting something.
