Hands down, the best scenes in this week's "Heroes" were the ones featuring Sylar! Welcome back, villain. I am so intrigued to find out what his deal is right now, and as much as I love Sylar being evil, I think I love it even more when he struggles.
Meanwhile, there's a ton of stuff going on with all our gazillion heroes — Niki and Micah are back, Hiro does some more stuff in old Japan, Claire and West share some special moments, Peter finds Irish thug life to his liking, and more happens with the twins, Maya and Alejandro. Sheesh. For more of my thoughts about this week's episode and to share your own (spoilers ahead!), read more
- Again: Sylar is back! But he's injured and may not be able to use his powers at all. Even after eating Candice's brains (or doing whatever he does), he can't access her shapeshifting power. Speaking of Candice, we finally see her real size, which she alluded to last season. Before getting Sylar-ified, Candice tells him, "The people I work for they’ll make sure you’ll get better."
- Also, the montage in which Candice shapeshifs for, um, sexual role playing purposes is bizarre and creepy.
- Niki and Micah are also back. DL, however, not so much. On his tombstone it reads "Husband — Father — Hero." Micah goes to stay with family in New Orleans while Niki gets help (or, "cured") from the golden spoon guy, Bob.
- When Alejandro gets arrested, Maya pulls her Tears o' Death trick and she gets Alejandro out of prison. When Alejandro makes everything better for Maya, he also revives the American kid in the nearby cell. But why didn't he revive the wardens as well? I really hope this storyline connects to another hero's soon because it's starting to get annoying.
- Okay, hold the phone. West shows Claire he can fly by zooming her up into the air while Enya-type music plays in the background. Anyone else find this unbearably cheesy? I started to feel embarrassed for them.
- Peter helps the Irish thugs and is welcomed into their little crime family. Caitlin also happens to be a tattoo artist, so she gives Peter a tattoo of the "family crest." Yet, at the very end it looks like a marking of the Godsend symbol disappears from Peter's arm.
- Also, Peter's gunshot wound spitting out the bullet made me giggle.
- The only thing I liked about the Hiro/Kensei storyline this week was this quote: "Kensei? He does not run away from danger, he runs toward it. And punches its face!" Otherwise, I don't understand why we needed the scrolls to Ando in the sword. And after all that trouble convincing Kensei he's really a hero, he takes to his new life (regeneration, being with the princess) remarkably quickly. For the first time, I think I could have done without Hiro's story altogether this week.
- There's a big "family" theme to the show recently. The Irish thugs tell Peter he's now a part of the family, and Bob says the same thing to Mohinder when he shows him the laboratory. Micah goes to stay with his family in New Orleans, Alejandro and Maya are siblings, Mohinder and Parkman have formed a family with Molly, and, of course, there's always the Bennets.
- Speaking of which: hello crazy eighth painting! Creepy. It seems to depict HRG bloodied on the floor, glasses broken, eyes bulging, while Claire is apparently kissing someone.
What did you think of "Kindred"?

i really liked this episode. a note on maya & alejandro - i thought when alejandro revived the america guy that the cops were starting to wake up as they were leaving.... anyone else?
peter is hot as usual - please more unbuttonned shirt story lines for him!! and sylar was awesome as well!
1The guards were waking up as far as I could tell... And yeah... hot hot peter. Yum.
2i didn't feel that this was one of their stronger ones, to be honest.
I'm kind of done with the mexican wonder twins. they've got to connect them with everything else pretty quickly. unless i'm mistaken, the american guy's 'car' is claire's stolen one... so maybe that's a connection.
Syler is deliciously heinous. Well done, Zach Quinto.
I'm not really sure what to do with Peter and the magic disappearing tattoo. I always appreciate Milo shirtless, though.
And yes. The flying scene? Way too Smallville. Way too cheesy.
3I didn't mind the flying scene- it was cheesy in a Superman kind of way. Also, the guards were definitely starting to wake up when the twins took off.
I think the only storylines I cared about this week were Sylar and Peter. I'm angry they killed DL and I just know that Micah's grandma (?...that seemed to be what she was) is one of the old school heroes...and probably evil. And HRG's gonna die or be beaten to a bloody pulp?? He's one of the few interesting characters!
They need to step up Hiro and the twins' storylines because I am starting to tire of them majorly. Honestly, I think the whole series needs to pick up. I'm sorry to say that I'm not into this season as much as I was into the last.
4genvessel — I like that theory about the stolen car, though Alejandro says something like "There! The Cadillac!" when he goes to break into the car, and (I only know this because Nissan was not-so-sneaky with their product placement) Claire's car is a Nissan Rogue.
5Also- they couldn't get Missy Peregrym back for just one more episode to kill her off properly? I know she has a power that's easily recastable, but it would have been nice to see her off. Bummer.
6I'm tired of Maya and Alejandro too. They need to connect with other characters fast.
As for the picture, I think Claire was kissing West, because West said very disdainfully about HRG. I think their paths will definitely cross and they'll go head to head with each other, unless Claire can intervene somehow.
It's also good to see Sylar back. I think he will get his powers back, but for the time being he's just weak after sustaining those severe injuries.
And, actually, I didn't think it was that corny with Claire and West flying around together! O.K., maybe a little. But I kind of liked it initially
7I mean West had spoken disdainfully about HRG to Claire. Sorry about the slip-up!
8i just refuse to believe that they could kill off my absolute favorite character, Mr. Noah Bennett!! Maybe he was just seriously injured in the painting? I would be heartbroken.
9Does anyone else find it creepy that Claire's new boyfriend and her real father have the same power?
10I kinda hate it when they reuse powers too. The should think of more instead of repeating.
I'm over the twins already.
11Forgot to say....does anyone think that Claire may somehow be a descendent of Kensei?
12I too could care less for the Hiro story line. It's completely unnecessary and boring to say the least, which is upsetting because I love Hiro - I think he can do so much better than this crappy story line.
13I really think they need to connect all the plot lines already. There's way too much stuff going on and it's just incoherent at this point. They need a 'save the cheerleader, save the world' type plot. I loved heroes last season and I hate to say it, but it seems to me that the show is starting to 'jump the shark'.
Having said that though, I will continue to watch only because I have invested far too much time to not see where this is all going; however, I'm just not sure how much more I can take...
sadly, i would be happy to see HRG go... he has always creeped me out! (sorry, "noah"). the flying scene was very cheesy, but i was laughing the whole time.
hiro's storyline is boring me as well, it reminds me of "a knights tale"! haha
looking forward to when kristen bell FINALLY shows up!!!
14my husband and i were also thinking that Kensei might be Claire's great great grandaddy. Or however many great greats in there. I was so glad too to see Ando back this season. I was afraid they would not have a reason to put him back on, but i really like his character. He puts himself in danger even though he has no powers to back it up. I think that is a hero as well (i know, very cheesy of me, but still)
15peter's wound spitting the bullet was awesome...but i thought it was the new tattoo that disappeared, not the godsend symbol.
the wonder twins bore me. i don't care if they find golden spoon man to cure them or what.
SO sad seeing DL's grave...i loved him!!
and doesn't anyone wonder about the lady micah is staying with?? my guess....out of all the cities, they end up in new orleans...my guess is some voodoo something is gonna go down.
and west is a total weirdo. he creeps me out.
16I agree with the comments that they really need to pick up the pace this season...but YAY Sylar is back! I find him so interesting even if he is so evil.
And had anyone commented that Bob the golden spoon guy is the guy from the movie Groundhog Day? Everytime he is on screen, all I can think of is "Ned! Ned Ryerson!"
17buzz - the twins talked about the cadillac before they met the american guy in prison. they didnt get into the caddy - they got into a SUV but i'm not sure if it was Clairs (i forgot about that part)
18Hey Buzz,
Just wanted to let you know. When Alejandro said "Cadillac", he was refering to the car they attempted to steal in front of the cop. The car that they left the police station in was the American in the next cell's car, a Nissan Rogue with a Go Conquistadors! sticker on the back. Most definitely it was Claire's stolen car. Of course, I am not sure how this will tie in. Many more questions abound: Why was the guy in jail? Why did he decide to take the twins across the border, if he had obvioulsy just come from SoCal (after theiving Claire's car)? Will the black in Maya's eyes be able to kill Claire? I so love Heroes!
19twinkie - you answered back to buzz what i was going to... well done...
sway - i like the idea that claire is the g-g-g-g-g-gdaughter... we'll see how that plays out.
20vickibug-we do the same thing when Ned Ryerson comes on! I don't know if I'll ever be able to take him seriously. lol
As for the show...I really want to love Heroes like I did in Season 1, but I'm not feeling it as much. At this point, I don't really care what happens to these people. BUT the preview for next week looks good, like we're finally getting down to a solid plotline where things start to come together. I'm sure this is part of a master plan and soon it'll start living up to my expectations from last year, but I haven't really been thrilled. Sylar's return has been the highlight by far.
Is Peter's shape changing/disappearing tattoo a Niki/Jessica type thing? I feel like he's got some evil in him now, when he was choking the one brother he was liking it.
21I have to say, I am loving this show.
22And so far West is a good guy! Right? lol
Well spotted with Claire's stolen car- I was wondering why it said "Go Conquistadors!"
As for Peter's tattoo, if I saw it correctly I believe that the Irish crest turned into the Godsend symbol, which then disappeared altogether. It was really weird, but I'm sure it will make sense eventually...right?
23As for Peter's tattoo...a tattoo is basically an artistic injury, so I think he just healed himself. As for the Godsend symbol, is it hidden in the Irish crest maybe? I need to go back and look on Tivo.
24Ah, good call on Claire's car. I thought you were talking about the car the twins tried to steal initially. My bad! (And I knew that Rogue was going to reappear... Nissan was so not done with the show yet.)
25Yeah I thought that first about Peter's tattoo just "healing" which is probably more accurate. I meant to look last night at the crest too. I'm sure the Symbol is in it. It seems like along with the family theme they're also covering a lot of cultures/backgrounds. There's got to be a reason why they're Irish...
26Yeah, the West and Claire thing, done… and done better when it was done in Smallville, lol. Also I think the wardens started to revive as well, but were still sluggish when they ran for their lives. If i am wrong however, I guess it could be a proximity thing?
I also saw the tattoo thing which I agree Phasekitty, is totally wierd, and again with the many bare chested views of Peter, lol.
Sylar is as creepy as ever, but dilemma!! How to get off the scary south american jungle (island)??. I'm sure we'll soon find out. Either way, i love this show beyond words. It keeps you guess but not in a we-are-too-smart-for-our-own-good (*cough* LOST) way!!!
Yay, can't wait till next week.
27As far as Peter's magically healing tattoo (Could Charlie Sheen use that power right about now!), it looked to me like as the celtic "Crest" healed it changed shape to reveal the godsend symbol. So I do not think that the crime family's crest has it in there, just that because Peter is a hero, his body changed it and then healed it.
28Also, I am with those who said that Micah's family member (got to be from DL's side right?) is one of the original heroes that are being hunted. That should help tie his storyline in nicely when he "accidentally" uses his powers in front of her.
I'm definitely over the Wonder Twins - as neat as the reveal was that Alejandro keeps Maya in balance, it just seemed lame this time around. Also - West bothers me. While it's nice that he wants Claire to admit she's special, it really bothers me that he had to pull the whole Lizard Girl thing in class. Just not a cool thing to do.
Jdots24 - you weren't the only one to think it was creepy that West and Claire's real dad have the same power.
29Here's an oddity!
DL's tombstone said he died in 2007 (it did right?), but the incident at Kirby Plaza when he was injured so badly was in November of 2006. So that means DL died of something other than what happened in last season's finale.
I missed Sylar. Since he can't use his powers, does he have the virus that Shanti, Molly Walker, and the Haitian had?
And I'm so over Maya/Alejandro, feudal Japan, the Irish gang, and West. This season really needs to pick it up!
30wow,it was really great reading all of your ideas and speculations. I like heroes, I agree it has been a slow start, but I have faith. Thanks to everyone for sharing!
31yeah, my bro and I were thinking about that, the incident in kirby plaza was in 2007??? but well... they should have an explanation(or someone is sooo fired...)
my thoughs
- Peter trying to use his powers... I was expecting a "flames on" or "it's morphin time" or "thunder thunder thundercats! ooh!!!"
- when the perv (West) take Claire and fly away me and my bro start talking at the same time "wow, the special effects went cheaper..." I know that the other times when we see people flying the sky wasn-t that bright and blablabla... but well.. they look kind of bad this time.
-NO NOAH CAN'T DIE!!! why God why!!! take me!!!
-I think that the HRG in the paint is Sylar... or the Claire in the paint is Sylar, but in both cases, Noah will be alive... DID YOU HEAR ME TIM KRING!!
32i think somewhere down the line the writers are going to fill in the blanks. go back to right after the kirby plaza deal and explain what happend in those four months. so maybe in those four months we will find out why DL died.
33LOL, NadiaPotter. I, too, really like HRG. I think his past and change in loyalties make him one of the most interesting characters on the show.
Unlike most of you all, I've been enjoying Hiro's adventure in the past, although I'm pretty positive the twist will be that Hiro is history's Kinsei. Cute, but cute in a too cheesy way and they've spent way too much time on it if that's the only pay-off. Here's to hoping I'm wrong!
Finally, ditto on the hoorays for Sylar being back! Sure he's the villain, but he's pretty, too. Peter and Sylar are yum yum yum.
34There is a future episode entitled "Four Months Ago", which will take us back to right after the Kirby Plaza incident, as there should be. I want to know how Peter and Nathan survived the blast, how Peter lost his memory, etc. I am not sure, but I think that epi is coming soon.
35my roommate and i were wondering during the tattoo scene if tattoos would heal themselves and dissolve into the skin, we were excited to see it happen.
36This is the best episode so far this season, but i'm pretty underwhelmed. Lets hope sylar spice's things up.
My theory is that the shadowy man that Claire is kissing in the painting is Sylar using Candice's power to lure her.
The cops were waking up when Alejandro sucked out the evilness from Maya because one of the cops moved his hand. Also, the flying scene was super cheesy!!!
37Did anyone else notice that when Maya and Alejandro were escaping prison they jumped in a car with the other prisoner? It flashed to a bumper sticker "Go Con..." (couldn't read it fast enought) but it was a Nisson Rogue. I am thinking that the car is Clare's stolen car and pretty soon Maya and Alejandro are going to meet some more heroes.
38My favorite part was when Kensei said Hiro couldnt go because "you're like my conscience, only i listen to you".
I really didn't like the part when Candice said how Sylar might want something exotic and then turned into this geisha, um seriously? Why not a biki clad brazilian girl? Does it always have to be this worn out and horse beaten stereotype? Pathetic.
I thought this episode was pretty boring. The end was interesting, seeing HRG getting killed.
And I definitely do NOT like West. He is such a jerk. I cant believe Claire let him kiss her after alluding to her as a "lizard girl". I thought she was more dignified/elegant/classier than that.
I think Hiro's plot so far IS kinda bland, but I like the love element, its not often an Asian guy gets to have love involved in their lines.
39my bad, bikini clad i meant.
40Maya and Alejandro do need to connect somehow, they'll probably meet up with Mohinder somehow I'm guessing.
The Flying scene was cheesy, probably their cheesiest moment ever, but hey it happens lol
I think that Sylar might be somewhere where he can't use his powers, kinda like how they did Mika last season.
I do have a prediction that maybe when Hiro went back in time and changed things a bit, that maybe that's why his father is dead. But who knows.I also thought that the man you couldn't see that pushed him off the building looked alot like Peter...peter....mmm....peter...ahhh...woops...but yeah those are my guesses, but i guess time will tell.
41I am convinced that Claire's new boyfriend is evil.. and his job is to turn Claire against her father.. and they'll eventually use her to kill him!! Or distract her so she can't save him when they kill him!!
42The guards were revived. You could see them getting up just before they escaped.
I think the Hiro in the past storyline is portraying how Hiro goes back in time and makes Kinsei the warrior he is known to be. I think it's also about Hiro's character development.
Claire/West bit was extremely cheesy. I think the ending and the fact West was experimented on by Noah is a clue to the portrait. It's apparently Claire, kissing someone while being oblivious to her dead adoptive father. West perhaps? or someone else eager to get back at him, and Claire eventually not caring about his death.
I also think that perhaps Sylar is being duped again? Led to believe he's stolen her power. When he tries to use the stolen power he's made to believe he's having problems with it.
43the flying scene was too cheesy so i fast-forwarded. i still don't like West..he's such an arrogant a-hole and i can't believe claire's kissing him (not that I like Claire anyway).
i totally thought the tattoo was going to disappear as soon as I saw him getting one (but yay on the half-naked Peter scenes).
yay for sylar being back although he's creepy.
i agree the the twins' plot needs to be speeded up. i'm a little over them running around central america to get to mohinder (or mohinder's dad).
i also agree with the theory that mica's grandma has powers.
is it just me or are they running out of superpowers? they seem to be recycling them. With Kensei and Claire having the same one (which could also mean they're related) and West and Nathan having the same one as well.
when will Nathan come back so we can finally figure out why his reflection looked like a burnt Peter? When is Mama Petrelli coming back so we figure out more about her attacker and her powers?
44really, the most important question of all is,
45WHERE WAS MR. MUGGLES?!?
I think...
West is a "plant" from the "corporation" sent to turn Claire against her father and either kill HRG or get Claire to. He's just too invasive and creepy. I don't trust him at all.
To me, it looked like the "godsend" tattoo was the tattoo disappearing from Peter's arm.
Hiro's story wrapped up wayyyy too neatly... but it looks like he decided to turn back at the last minute! I think there is more to happen here.
46Oooohhhh... maybe the ghost of Mohinder's dad is the invisible killer of the original Heroes??
47yeah i dont like peter with that girl.... i think he looks better with nikki!
48I'm I the only one who thinks that West maybe the killer?? He seems very angry with the people (HRG & CO.) who took him and since he can fly, he could of easily escaped after throwing Hiro's dad off the building. He seems evil.. or maybe I just don't like him.
I so happy Sylar's back on. He's sooo sexy!
Peter needs to get back home and leave
that dumbass there. COME ON PETER, NATHAN NEEDS YOU!!!!!
49I think that Peter is so hot and I def want to see him w/o his shirt on more often. I would love to know what he is doing in Ireland though. Also, when his tattoo disappeared, I thought it was his body healing from the family crest that that girl just tattooed on him, not the godsend tattoo.
